Dayo let out a slow, relaxed breath as she stepped down from the stone shelving she'd been using as a perch. The tall, elegant young woman had finally put up the last of her star and plant charts and felt much more at home. It'd taken an entire seven-day to clean the quarters she shared with the shorter, red-headed girl on the cot to the right of her and another whom she'd yet to meet, and now she finally had space.

"That is better. You see now how the stars align with the time to plant different crops?"

Joining the other girl, Yali, on her bunk without reservation, she smiled and let down her heavy, small dreads, retying them up as her efforts of the day had loosened them. Their conversation had been free-flowing, sometimes lapsing into silence, and sometimes flying quickly between them as they agreed or disagreed on a subject.

Dayo found she didn't mind Yali at all, despite their differences, though when they were closer she might see about fixing her hair...

"Perhaps we shall put up some of your art next, Harper."

Yali had her violin out and she was carefully examining the wood as Dayo talked. For the most part, she didn't pay much attention physically to the words, but she was listening very intently.

"Uh-huh," she answered and spit a bit onto her hand and used her shirt to clean a spot she found unsavory. It was then that she looked up at all the things that Dayo had begun to put up.

"It makes me hungry," she pointed out bluntly. She watched it for a long while as if intrigued before going back to find another spot on her instrument.

A small smile split over her teeth as she looked up and then stood. In a small corner, a worn, cured leather bag rested against the corner. It was large and wide and when Yali went to it, she pulled out a few of her prized pieces on all sorts of canvas. One was even on untreated animal hide. It had been interesting to work with.

Moving back over to Dayo, she handed a few of the larger pieces over. "How about these?" One in particular was her favourite - it was more of a color mess than anything. But it was a picture of a herdbeast running from a dragon, she explained. Guessing on the shapes and sizes of the colors, the dragon was probably a blue.

Dayo touched her flat stomach, nodding in agreement. "I find myself hungry as well, perhaps when we finish we can dine together."

Strong back pressed against the wall as she quietly watched Yali and her suddent excitement, Dayo's smile grew. She was good at recognizing other's 'skills' and pointing them out. As the art was removed, she saw that it lacked technical accuracy, but to a girl from Nerat Hold, it was charming nonetheless.

"Your use of colors is brilliant." A gentle fingertip touched the edge of the art and she glanced to a blank space on their 'walls'. "May I?"

Yali's pride in the work was quiet, but still apparent to those with the skills of observation. "Yup," she answered to Dayo's question.

She went so far as to help the girl with hanging it up. Uuni got one, too, because Yali insisted, with that melancholy air, that Uuni needed some more color in her life.

By the end of a half of a candlemark, they'd finished picking out the proper and most artistic pieces to hang. The area was the cleanest Yali had ever seen it. The only question on her mind was how long it would last. She had a habit of leaving her socks crumpled on the floor.

Maybe Uuni would just forget she was messy and become clean like Dayo. Yali's imagination was as askew as her art.

"Where the <********> is all my stuff?"

It wasn't Yali's voice. That much was clear as she lazily looked towards the door. Uuni looked the most irked she'd ever seen her. That being said, it didn't make her look 'angry' persay.

It was a wonder anyone ever took her seriously. Maybe they didn't.

Dayo turned from where she and Yali had been regarding their joint efforts, her dark face expressionless as she took in the new arrival. Attractive [and she looked like she knew it], irritated, and straight-forward. Dayo could work with that.

"You must be Uuni." A hint of a smile and she pointed to shelving by Uuni's cot, which had also been moved to accomodate a third bunk. "Your clothing is by color and type, and your personal effects are to the left of that."

Her voice was mostly neutral, maybe slightly friendly, as she quietly watched Uuni, dissecting her reaction out of habit.

"Who the shards are you?" she asked Dayo when she smiled. Her eyes left the pair to go to the shelves. Shelves!? Not okay! Really not okay!

"She's our new roommate." Yali's voice reached her as Uuni felt the disbelief hitting her like a rock.

"They don't need organizing! They're all one type. Clothes." To be quite truthful, she was still in yesterdays. Groaning as she heard Yali's cot squeak (the girl had flumped down into the location), Uuni stalked her way over to the shelves and leered at the contents inside.

"Oh Faranth's death, it's worse than I thought!" Casting Dayo another glare, she ripped out a few of the clothes she wanted for the day and gave them a good shake out.

"How am I supposed to find anything like this? It looks horrible." And it was in her sleeping space. Her cot had been moved. It had always been in that spot. Always.

"Yali, tell her not to touch my stuff," Uuni attempted as she turned back to her personal things and started sliding them out of place just so it wouldn't look so organized.

"Mmpf," was Yali's response as she pulled out some charcoal. "Hold still." Looking over at Dayo, she explained. "She doesn't get this upset very often. I want to capture the mood."

"My name is Dayo," the dark young woman had already picked up a ledger, her stern gaze on Uuni as she watched the trollop fuss with her things. "and you may speak to me directly."

Nodding in understanding to Yali, she tilted her head, gesturing to the pale-skinned, irritable woman. "The tightness of the jaw is particularly fascinating..."

Stepping forward, she raised her brows at Uuni, eyes flicking between the ledger [which contained a list of the contents of the room, plus a sketch of ideal set-up] and the other Candidate. "Yali and I simply arranged the room in the most effective use of space possible."

"Are you for real?" Uuni had finished moving things around; it was as well as she could do on such short notice. At the moment, she wanted a shower. She smelled of sweat and whatever else that was that made men stare at her when she went by.

Looking over at Yali and letting out an exasperated sigh, she amended. "Are you both for real!?" Catching a look at Yali's paper, Uuni felt it wise to put in another point. "My a** is not that small."

All that aside, she turned back to Dayo. "Effective. . . what. . . what is that?" Her eyes had caught onto the sketch of the room. It was actually quite well done. Yali could have learned something from this Dayo.

Momentarily distracted by the art of it, Uuni needed only a few seconds to catch back up and point an accusing finger in Dayo's direction. Another groan escaped her lips and she rolled back her head and followed with a low, gutteral sound of disbelief. "Don't touch my stuff."

Stalking over to Yali, she asked to borrow the charcoal and drew a few lines on Dayo's paper. "My space. Yali's space. Your space. Neutral space. Okay? Okay."

She gave Dayo an extra look of a very serious nature and then shook her clothes out another time for good measure and went off to the bathing rooms to relax. If any of them stopped her! Well, she wasn't sure what, but she'd think of something!

Yali, who had pulled out another piece of charcoal by then, did not seem at all phased nor did she find it necessary to comment on the subject while Uuni was off ranting. "I think that might be Uuni for 'welcome home'," she offered to Dayo as she started adding hair to her small parchment.

Dayo, like Yali had been silent during Uuni's little tirade, though she privately found the young woman more than a little bit amusing, and now that she was through she smiled, gesturing to Yali.

"Uuni," her matter-of-fact voice was clear, easily reaching the other Candidate's ears unabashed. "Are you heading to the baths? Yali and I were considering a wash as well."

Obviously, she intended to accompany her new roommate. After all, she'd been here two fortnights and they'd yet to have a conversation.

At least Dayo got along with Yali just fine.

Uuni had to stop, think about it, and then turn around. It was like she'd walked into her own personal nightmare.

"Wh-" She crossed her arms for a moment then dropped them, shook her head and rolled her eyes. Screw honesty.

"Yes," she finally admitted with a sigh. It obviously didn't please her at all.

"I'm not waiting up, though!" she said loudly as she turned and stalked down the hall. Of all the roommates she had to have, she got stuck with the clean freak with a systematic personality.

Yali added a few more lines and looked only a tiny bit dejected when Uuni left the room. The charcoal coating on her fingers was wiped off on her jerkin and the stationary was replaced in its original location.

Letting out a rather long yawn and tucking her hands behind her head, she leaned back against the wall and looked over at Dayo.
