For those of you on here who are members of the Gaia Parents Guild there is a notice there that they are planning to cut down on their member list by getting rid of inactive accounts who haven't posted for a long time or shown interest. (I was one of those guilty parties, not having visited since my first couple of months on gaia last year.) But I actually went in there yesterday to post about Jade's swimming lessons and saw the thread for [All Members] saying to post in there and indicate if you'd still like to be active. Otherwise, they'll be sending PM's to everybody soon to let them know, and they say if you're banned for inactivity, you can always rejoin again later if you wish.

i know exactly how you feel, i feel very at home here, but i find it difficult to feel comfortable in other guilds that i have joined, apart from howe's, but of course that's full of Purkles blaugh

I also agree with you all. I actually can't believe I talk as much as I do here (and howe's) and in the guild on neo. I'm not good with talking to people at all. You all just make me feel good about myself which is something I haven't ever had before. You guys don't put me down because of my appearance, etc so you are all like family to me heart heart

I couldn't agree more! Whenever I'm having a bad day I can always count on being purkle to cheer me right up.

Roo i'm really touched that you feel that way! i know you feel conscious about the way you look, i don't think you need to though, but it meant a lot to me that you felt comfortable enough with us to post your pic for us to see heart

if you'd met me a few years ago you'd have found a shy, retiring creature without much to say, who never defended herself and let others walk all over her, is that the opinion you people have of the me you know?
Using the internet has really helped me develop as a person, i have confidence that was none existent before, and i am a far better person for it. i know my own mind and i'm not afraid to speak it either. My ex has noticed the difference in me, of course when we lived together i did tend to defer to him, so he's a bit shocked sometimes now by how opinionated i am rofl especially wheni'm getting critical in his direction lol

so for all those people out there who poo-poo the internet razz to them, it's made a better person of me and Roo 3nodding

I totally agree. I have opened up so much since I have started talking to you all. I am able to say how I feel much better and I don't let everyone walk all over me anymore. Well, not as much anyway. I recognize it more now than before. Great big massive purkle huggles to you all heart heart heart

I also agree with the power of the internet and its environment. For some reason, I'm able to open much MUCH more easily through writing (starting back when I would write letters to my friends after they left for college, then progressing to typing letters, and then internet interaction) and it's allowed me the freedom to develop my inner personality into the kind of person I want to be. I really see my online self as my true soul self; the one that can't come through in real life as well for a variety of reasons, such as the self-consciousness of looks, clothing, being stared at, worrying about my facial expression, or my stance, or if I stumble over my words.. those might be some reasons why it's easier to be more self-assured and outgoing online. And developping this clear sense of self online has helped me shift my real life self slowly in the same sorts of ways, and when I remember the kind of person I want to be, it's sometimes easier to let that same self shine through in real life.

Who would have guessed I was the quietest, shyest, least talkative, least social person I could think of growing up? Always into my studies, never popular, only had a few close friends, and always always always feeling awkward in social situations in real life. It used to be REALLY hard for anyone to get two words out of me. And I would never ever START conversations. Being online HAS changed me to be more social and joyful and confident, and now I can start conversations, interact with people cheerfully, and SMILE.

wow, it's making better people of all of us!
i didn't realise you used to be a shrinking violet too fawN!
i love the way i can see the changes in myself, it's almost like i'd got a mini me pointing them out to me, maybe it's my avie sitting on my shoulder biggrin

saying things like, you wouldn't have said THAT a few years ago!
i even make a point of talking to strangers now, if i end up sitting next to them on a train maybe, or in the queue at the supermarket, when we went to the hospital to see my Nan last saturday a lady in the lift had a lovely snowflake brooch on, so i complimented her on it and she was delighted!
i spread a little Purkle to a stranger, heh heh, maybe that should be my mission now, to Purkle people without them realising 4laugh

I want to post something badloki wrote in that thread:

Quote:
*sigh*

Ok, will everyone please read this?

You do NOT need to quit just because you're not active! Please do not quit unless you really do not want to be a member here anymore.

You do NOT need to start posting more! If you want to lurk, then lurk! If you want only to read, then just read! If you only want to post every once in a while, then do it!

You do NOT need to give us reasons for your inactivity! I KNOW people get busy, especially us with children. I KNOW we all have real lives we tend to. I UNDERSTAND this. You do not need to tell me why.

You do NOT need to apologize! I'm NOT trying to put a guilt trip on anyone here.

You do NOT need to feel bad for being inactive, semi-active, busy, lurking, and etc. Do what you've always done. I simply wanted those who are still interested in this guild to simply sign up in this thread.

In no shape, way, or form am I expecting all my members to be super-duper active. This thread is not about that! I just simply wanted to do a roll call type thing to just see who was still interested in being a member of this guild.

All I am asking for is a simple, quick, generic post to this thread. It can be "Hi" or an emoticon, or a picture, or whatever. But it does NOT need to be an apology nor a thousand reasons for why you haven't been posting or what have you.

The GPG does NOT require all of its members to be post-aholics. I only want to know who is still interested in being a member. That's all!
