Being a predominantly British guild we will of course follow our stereotype and talk incessantly about the weather, with a brief sidetrack into the realm of cricket maybe... confused
We're in for snow this week, 100% chance of it according to Metcheck.com.
These are the genuises who told us that last winter would be the coldest on record for many years, when it actually turned off to be unbelievably mild..
One thing that sticks in my mind from last year, Metcheck where quite emphatic about the cold snap starting on November 22nd and being very bad for the whole week, and today's date ...maybe their crystal ball needs recalibrating, weather predictions a year in advance aren't much use to the average citizen!

of course the main reason i'm griping about the cold is the threatened power shortages, but maybe i need to re-think a little.
I remember last winter, when fawN was telling us about the 6 feet long icicle that was hanging from the front of her house
eek

It does rather put things in perspective redface

We are supposed to have snow here today later this afternoon and into tonight. Not sure yet if it will amount to anything. I guess I will have to wait until morning to see if there is a blanket on the ground.

you're a lot more geared up for it in the States though, over here it's an embarrassment, half an inch on the ground and the country grinds to a halt, every single winter rolleyes

You talk for yourself we are always prepared here in Scotland, the roads have been gritted for the past 3 days, gritters were out again from 3 o'clock today, the only time I can remember being caught out was just after christmas 2001 we got 5 foot overnight and no one expected it. We had no bin collections as everyone was sent out to clear the roads.

you must laugh your heads off in Scotland when you see the state we get in on the news. Britain is such a hopeless country in so many ways! they have been gritting, or putting down salt at least, i've seen the odd bit collecting in the gutter, but i haven't seen the gritters out in force yet, though when they are the run out of grit by January stressed

I never really thought about it until I met Simon, of course I didn't realise that the councils down there just don't prepare themselves. Our council put the grit boxes out on the lane last month so we can grit the bits they can't get to. When the temp drops to a certain temp they send out the gritters, not just when they expect snow. It could be just frosty but the roads are gritted. You would think that England would just copy Scotland when they expect really bad weather.

Tia the councils have got much better at paying attention to the weather forecasts in recent years, just not so far this year...not sure what's going on there.
it has got slightly warmer just here tonight, it's nearly 2 degrees in my downstairs loo now lol
