Ah, Livemocha. I sort of have mixed feelings about it. I mean the learning part is helpful, but I hate the writing and speaking because they add things in that you haven't learned yet.
Like for instance, after the first lesson, it asked me to describe two things about each person. Okay. But in the example, it has the two things in the same sentence. I don't know how to do that!
Also when I was doing the speaking part in Japanese, it had words I have never learned. Because of this, I had to try and find it out what it was, because you know, it is in Kanji, and I hadn't learned that Kanji yet. And when a person was correcting it, they told that the word wasn't correct, which made me a little ticked off. Not at the person of course, but the fact that livemocha continues to add in extra things I've never learned.
I also made a mistake on the written part in Mandarin. Since I didn't know how to say 'and' in mandarin and I failed to know the characters, as a result I did something so very stupid.
I used the dreaded translator.
And because of that, I accidently said that all girls were fat and old. People were making rude comments on how bad it was and even doing the "Flicking you off" type of emoticon. I mean hello! I am not an expert at the language! And you aren't even trying to help! sad Thankfully though, a few nice people told me what I did wrong, but most were jerks about it.
So as you can see, my livemocha experience hasn't been the best. sweatdrop
Oh and if you want a buttload of friends, just say you are learning Mandarin, that's why I have so many friends, even though I haven't talked to any of them.
