Yup, it happened to me. I played flute for 2 1/2 years (4th through part of 6th grade). I switched to trumpet, which was one of the best decisions I've ever made because I was getting nowhere with flute. Then I learned mellophone, French horn, marimba, and multiple percussion instruments during the later half of my high school years. Percussion wasn't one of my better ideas, but hey, it was an experience.

I've never permanently switched, but I have picked up new instruments. I learned flute in eighth grade, then trumpet in high school (I'm a horn player). There are switches that are highly encouraged, such as clarinet to saxophone, and flute to horn, because sax and horn are difficult to start out on.

Yeah. In 4th grade I started out playing the trumpet then when I got into 7th grade my band teacher convinced me to switch to the French Horn. I love it even more then the trumpet :3
