WRITERS RULES OF RESPECT
There's always new writers joining the scene. I see more and more of them having no respect for everyone and everything else. HipHop holds alot on Respect -- often you will hear MCs rapping about respect.
So, most of us on here are fairly seasoned writers, and we know how it works. But for those who don't here's a friendly reminder.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Where NOT to write
•Cemetaries
This is by far the worst place you could vandalize. You hear about kids on the news tagging and smashing
gravestones. This is so horribly wrong. Not only is it disrespectful, but it gives you and graffiti in general a bad name.

•Places of Worship
This is almost as equally rude. I am Wiccan, so I don't have a place of worship. But I know that if I did, I would NOT be happy.
Religious places such as temples, mosques, and churches should never be defiled, unless they, for example, hire you to do a religious piece.

•Historical Monuments/Buildings
Chances are there are a few, or quite a few historical monuments and buildings in your city. Anything from a very old historical-looking building, to a war monument should never be defiled.
•Murales
In my city, for example, we have quite a few murales on the side of walls in the city. One of the murales in my city, that reflects black history, was tagged with the word "Niggz". They managed to fade the tag with some touch ups, but it's still visible.People put work into this art, just as you put work into your pieces.
Private Property

What NOT to write
•Taken Names (in your city)
Now, we can't all have unique names. The ratio on names preffered to graffiti writers is about 10:1. However, please do not use the name of another writer, past or present, from your city. (Unless that artist gives you permission for whatever reason). There's millions of words on this planet, and millions more you can make up. Get creative.
•Legendary Names
There's alot of great names out there tooken by amazing artists. Names many people would want to use. But I believe that certain names are simple exclusive. Like a retired hockey jersey number, for example. Never should you use a name like Cope, Seen, Can, Zephyr, Taki, or the names of any other well known legendary writers. Don't bite off the kings or you WILL get buffed VERY fast.
•Vulgar words or images
Now, this isn't respect to other writers as much as it is to the community. For example, taggers often pay quite a few visits to the parks they see. Play Equipment is a great tagging area. Children read the words there, as they might anywhere else. Not only will tagging the word "d**k" make you look like a total douchebag, but it's also plain disrespectful to the children of the community. The same goes for drawing penises. It's rude, there's too many cat scratch penal drawng already, and it just makes you look like an 8 year old kid who thinks he's funny.

Rules of War
for those of you who are not familliar with the term, a war is a battle usually involving repeated buffing of each other's tags, throwies or even bombs. This can also include repeatedly going over other people's stuff with your own. This is usually between two individuals or two crews. Needless to say, this is usually not friendly.
•Try not to start one
First off, try not to start a war with someone. Not only is it rude to start one, but it's also a dumb idea if you want to keep your pieces from being crossed out, because it can be very annoying to out stuff up only to have it bufed the next day.
•Don't involve others
Unless this war is an all out crew war, don't start buffing out other people your enemy happens to get up with. A lot of people have no intentions torwards you no matter what the hell is happening between you and their friend. I myself am one to get involved as soon as my buddy gets buffed, but a lot of people would rather stay out of it. Don't include them if they clearly don't want to be
•Don't make it physical
Even graffiti crews can get a little riled when someone else ******** up your s**t. Okay, I lied, we get really ******** pissed off. This isn't a rule of respect, this is just a warning. I've been in all out crew wars plenty of times, and some have gotten physical. People can go to extreme lengths when they're angry, and it just isn't smart to make it physical unless someone else makes it so. Do you want to be walking down the street one day and get jumped by 5-10 people? Thought not.

So, there you have it. Just some rules of respect to being a writer.

I'd like to add that you need to know your limits. Don't try and hit up a billboard if you're afraid of heights. Sometimes safety is more important than respect.

Oh for sure. There's a lot of safety rules that go along with that. Heights, Proper protction/filtration from aerosol paint, not wearing things you can trip over if you have to run, etc.
Maybe I'll edit that in sometime.

******** all that beef, bullshit, and drama... That's why I ended up leaving my crew, cause all the young heads in the crew started tag banging and causing beef with everybody.. s**t. I'm one of the originals and I ended up leaving the crew... That's how bad it got. Suppose to be a graffiti crew and all these damn youngsters trying to bang with it, ******** it all up. ******** TAG BANGING! DON'T EVER TAG BANG! That's how you get marked and ******** up the graff scene for all the real writers. Cause of that s**t, all the original heads in my crew got burned by the pigs cause they were looking for us. s**t is ******** up now a days... It aint the same no more. blah!

Well ya,but you forgot two: Don't get killed and don't be a dumb **S, but they are a given. I mean, there has been times I've been painting and the train is pulling out and all i have time for is to put an outline on. you just have to watch yourself (and watch out for your local bull.)

Yeah that's true too.. They just need to learn how to act right and they'll be ok.

They'll eventually figure it out. Either they get schooled, or get checked. They will learn...

I'm a downright toy, but I like to think I've got a grasp on the community. I know my place, and I'll never talk/act higher then I am.

I agree. Kids in my school used to think they were hot-shots b/c they drew swastikas, or swear words on every desk. I guess they thought graffiti is all about vandilizing property and offending other people..

Oh jeeze. The swastika thing winds me up every time I see it. These kids grandfathers died so we wouldn't need to see that sorta s**t all over the place.
