In a dark corner of the weyr Arolon hid, trying not to be found by anyone. If rumor got out he'd be laughed at. The teen boy didn't think his pride could take it. What the the Nose found him? He kept quiet except for the occasional curse of pain when his fingers got pricked. In his lap sat one of his shirts. He'd spent the day doing chores and running around. A gapping hole in it gave away the source of his troubles. He had the pern equivalent of a needle in his hand and was trying to sew a patch in it.
It was clear the boy had no previous experience in Weavercraft. His fingers fumbled, the thread got tangled up and the stitches seemed uneven. He sighed, obviously frustrated. He hadn't ever paid attention when a nanny sewed his things back together. Now on his own he wished he had observed it a little more closely. He was grown now, trying to become a dragon rider! He should know how to take care of such things by himself. He just didn't want to be caught doing a 'girl thing' but by now he realized he'd have to learn about it at least enough to patch up his own clothes!
"Ow!" He shook his finger a little then held it still and watched a bead of red blood form. Shards and shells!

On the other hand, it was no surprise to find the seamstress-raised Ichta sitting out in the open with her 'normal' undershirt (it had a higher collar.. which was actually stretched a bit from having been pulled up over her chin so much) laid inside out and on her lap, not 'humming' as most females at a task they enjoyed to some degree may have. Then again, Ichta didn't exactly 'hum' or 'vocalize' her state of being very well.
But it was without anywhere near as much of a problem as a certain other candidate was having that Ichta had stitched up the sleeve of her undershirt, before sighing and flipping it back right-side out to check over her handiwork with a frown.
Well.. it was better now at least -- albeit she still didn't like to think about the incident that had ripped the sleeve in the first place.
Oh noooooo thank you. She'd just.. not revisit that thought.
But now that that was over, she'd be able to pack her stuff away and (hopefully without getting lost) go and pack things back into her cot.

Arolon gave up and stood, walking stiffly out of his dark corner hiding spot. He had just gotten out into the open when he almost literally stumbled into some girl. Almost. He blushed, hiding the needle behind his back. The thread attached to it gave it away by twining round to his backside. The hole in the shirt was also a clue. 'Not now,' he thought to himself silently, he didn't want to be seen doing this.
He noticed the girl had recently sewn something herself. She looked much better at it. He considered his options. Ask for help? Walk away? Try to hide what he was attempting? He was caught, like a fish in a net. As soon as his eyes adjusted to the light he blinked, focusing on her eyes.
"Sorry, I was trying to patch things up when I got a little clumsy and gave up. Didn't look where I was going." He was shocked when his mouth moved faster than his thoughts. At least the words were honest. He held up the shirt with one hand and rubbed the back of his neck with the other. Taking the needle out of hiding he stuck it in the torn shirt.
"You alright?" He asked. The boy felt bad, he had almost bumped into her!

asdjf;klds. Ichta's entire body froze and 'prickled up' in posture when she was nearly plowed down by the other candidate, one hand immediately grabbing for the collar that wasn't there. fjasdl;fkjasdklf;hasdklfjaskl;dfaskjflk;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was sort of a miniature panic, reaching for a collar to pull over her chin, only to find that she would now have to actually settle for letting someone see just how 'pretty' the scar on her chin was.
Noooooooooooooooooooo!
It was following that in which she automatically shoved the shirt in her hands up against her face as though by going out of her way to hide it NOBODY would notice it. Mental note to Ichta: Get more than one high-collared undershirt to hide her scar underneath.
At least her neck was hidden by this shirt.
Partially.
However, the comment on his own attempt to patch-job caused her to frown into the fabric she was trying to hide her mouth in. "..If you turn it inside out it tends to work better..."

Arolon looked away for a second while she scrambled to cover it. He had seen it right before he blinked but was determined not to look at the blemish. Ladies didn't like things like scars or anything they'd consider a flaw being stared at. Must be hard for her, being it was on her face and permanent like that. He didn't know why it bothered girls so much. A lover wouldn't care about something only skin deep. Most guys love it when they get a scar, especially battle scars. When hers was covered by the shirt he met her gaze. Her comment was muffled but still heard.
"...oh." Arolon threw caution to the wind and fell with a quiet 'thump' onto his knees in front of the girl. He took out a knife he'd brought along and cut the sloppy stitches he'd done earlier off. Then he put the knife away and turned the shirt inside out. His big fingers gently gripped the needle. Again he tried to sew the patch on, going slower this time with closer stitches. He wanted to rush so no one else caught him but if the girl decided she had all the power to laugh and tell the weyr Arolon was doing something 'girly.'
"Thanks." It did seem to be working better now. He turned his eyes down to his project. "I've never done this before." He admitted, still embarrassed. "Name's Arolon," He said automatically.

Guys liked looking 'dangerous'... Ichta didn't like looking dangerous or brave or anything that came with her scar-from-unknown-injury. If it had been anywhere else she probably wouldn't have been cared... but there was just something odd about its placement in her mind -- like she'd been marked.
However, Ichta crouched down to watch him sew, her elbows resting on her knees so she could keep the spare shirt over her mouth while watching. Unfortunately, this meant she'd need her hands eventually, as part of her was just itching to reach in and do it herself... which she.. ....
To the surprise of all who knew of her unassertive nature actually did! She just laid the shirt across her lap and.. with a sort of hesitation reached out to pluck the needle from him, taking the two edges that he'd been trying to sew together to stitch them together in an odd manner.
"My mother makes clothing for a living." she explained away as the source of her odd sewing ability, "I'm nowhere near as good as she is though." Oh.. there had been a name in there.
fj;saldkf Oops! That meant she needed to introduce herself right back, now didn't it? "I'm Ichta."

He didn't quite know what she was doing when she reached out and took the shirt from his big clumsy hands. He was mildly surprised she gave up hiding to take the needle from him as well. "Nice to meet you Ichta, and thanks." He said smiling. He watched her sewing, trying to learn more from observation. If this scenario popped up again he wanted to be ready for it next time.

Well, if he could learn it by observation, it was all the better for her -- Ichta wasn't the most 'able' of teachers and likely wouldn't have been able to communicate how to do such a thing. But after a minute or so, she finally sealed off her stitches and bit off the end of the thread.
Nope.
No sharp objects there, at all. She didn't have any, so she wasn't going to seal it off. It was once she'd finished that off that she pulled the shirt outside-out again and offered it back to Arolon without a word.

"Don't tell the other guys I'm trying to learn how to sew." He pleaded, giving her his best puppy-dog eyes. He took the shirt gently and inspected the work. Much better than his poor attempts! Back in the corner he had been hiding in before there came a hiss from a hole in the wall. A tunnelsnake crawled out, many legs moving at once toward the couple.
Jumping in front of Ichta he waved his shirt low over it's head to give it something to bite other than their ankles. "Ugh! Let's get out of here!" He had had enough of these things during his search for fire lizard eggs. He didn't like dealing with one again.

Well once any 'sewing' on her end was done, Ichta immediately backed off, shrinking down back into her position of 'I R PATHETIC, DON'T MIND ME'.... at least until she heard the hiss.
If there was anything Ichta was most definitely, it was that she was a coward and that she was a girl. The sight of the Tunnelsnake was perfect proof of this. In her eyes, it was a creepy-crawly and it was terrifying, causing the girl to shriek out -- quite loudly, and even before Arolon had even been able to make the suggestion to actually get out of where, her own sense of 'DO NOT WAAANNNNTTTT' had kicked in.
Oh yes.
She had definitely just gone screaming in terror down the hall, most likely to go hide somewhere.

"Shards!" Hearing the screams Arolon looked behind him to see Ichta disappear down the hall. Bravery against the tunnelsnake forgetten now that he didn't need to protect anyone, Arolon ran away too. She was ahead of him and faster, not to mention he could have taken a wrong turn. Either way he didn't find her again. He panted for a bit after he stopped.
Holding the newly patched shirt, he returned to sleeping spot on the floor to put the shirt away in his sack. "Thank you Ichta," He mumbled to himself, hoping next time he had to sew something that he'd do a better job thanks to her help. If he saw her again he'd thank her properly. She was nice, that shy girl with the scar she always tried to hide...
( End, thanks for the fun RP Pach! )
