"Remind me again.. why we're scaling the mountainside? It'd be easier to travel if we could just fly."
The black dragon was not in good spirits at the moment, as could be seen. For awhile now, he and his humakin companion had been moving about the Arock mountains on foot. It wasn't exactly an easy hike either. The air was thin and brisk, causing their breaths to form a bit as they exhaled.
"Easier to travel, but it won't be easier to spot the things we need. You can go fly around if you want, but I'm staying on the ground right now."
Glancing at the Kulgenki for a moment, the human shook his head before heading over towards a small patch of foliage. Crouching down, he brought out a piece of paper that had the image of some sort of flower. He took a short while to examine the spot, then stood up straight.
"Though I'm starting to wonder if we should have just flown to the nearest town to try our luck the-"
Stopping short, he and the dragon exchanged looks briefly. Both had heard a few sounds, not much unlike footsteps in loose stones. Narrowing his eyes, the young man placed a hand onto the hilt of his sword and kept still.

"Out of all places.... I pick a moutain" Poke grumbed again as she jumped to another high raising bolder, and then jumped to another boulder. She was always on the lookout for a good challenge so she could strengthen herself and varun..but sometimes she ended up picking obstacles that where alot harder then they had to be. Now was one of those times.
"Sometimes I wish I wasn't so big" Varun tried to squeeze through the passage way poke had gone through, but unforntately...was not able to. "Poke..can you give me a hand?"
Looking back, she sighed and ran back so she was in front of him. "Give me you hand..er, claw"
as varun objeyed, she placed both hands on his arm and then started to pull. However, she had forgotten about her strength, and so he came lose quite quickly, stumbeling forwards and falling straight on poke.
"Gah! Varun your squishing mee!"
"sorry!"

Blade narrowed his eyes as he strained his ears to listen to what was near. It sounded like a girl and her kulgenki were nearby, but whether or not they were enemies wasn't clear. They didn't sound too coordinated, that was certain.
Both Kulgenki and Humakin slowly made their way towards the source, trying not to make much noise themselves.
asked Maelthra mentally.
Carefully, the human drew out his sword. If whoever was nearby really was a patrol from the other nations, they may end up having a spout of violence pretty soon. The two peered around a large boulder, spying the source of the voices and sounds soon enough.

As Varun was trying to get his bulk off the ground and his humankin, he paused. Was it his imagination, or could he hear the sound of apporach.
<shh, I think I hear something coming>
poke wasn't prepared for the telepathy, but netheless kept her mouth shut. Trying to look past Varun she couldn't see anybody coming. However, she trusted Varuns senses.
<well, what should we do?>
<We shouldn't jump out an attack without warning. We have no clue who they are>
<Lets wait here, and see what they do, it's not like we can't make a fast gettaway if we need to> Poke managed to squirm her way out, and jump onto Varuns back, just incase they did encounter someone dangerous

Over the boulder, the two managed to spot the strangers. It was a girl and a dragon of sorts. The humakin didn't have any sort of armor whatsoever, so she couldn't have been a part of another nation's patrol. That was a good sign at least. With a sigh, Blade sheathed his sword, but remained wary. They still didn't know who these people were.
And at this point there really was only one way to find out.
Stepping out from behind the rock, the thief regarded the two for a moment before speaking up. Maelthra stepped out as well, and now stood behind his companion.
"You had us worried there for a moment. Thought you might have been enemy patrollers."

Neither poke nor Varun had expected to see another person like blade up on these moutain tops, nor had they expected to see one with such a large looking dragon. At the mention of enermy partrols, poke looked a bit worried. She didn't remember hearing anything about someone other then nakadrak partrolling these moutains.
"...Why would there be enermy patrols here.." she started. "This is a nakadrak territory, you wont find anyone else here.."
Varun Stood up a little straighter, trying to make himself as big as he could. There was something about this kulgenki that made him want to look as impressive as he could. Or mabye it was a dragon thing?
"We were just passing through, trying to get a little training done on these mooutains" Eying the two he couldn't see anything that they would be largely worried about; they didn't seem to be the kind of beings to suddenly attack someone for no reason.

"There could always be scouts trying to seek out where the city is. Just can never be too careful, you know?"
As Blade spoke, Maelthra glanced over at the other Kulgenki, noting that he was trying to make himself look bigger. He let out a soft snort out of amusement before shaking his head to add some input to the conversation.
"Besides," the dragon started, thinking as he spoke, "We don't exactly have an established territory like the other nations.. I think we're technically on Kurtyr lands at the moment."
Now relaxing more, as the two before them were probably not likely to attack or anything along those lines, Blade glanced around at their surroundings as if trying to spot something in the area.
"But anyway, we're here to gather a few things for the medics; I think I would have had more luck visiting the closest village or town than trying to find it in the mountains.

"hah, the kurtyr can think all they want, they didn't colonise the mountains, so it's fair game for us" poke then listened to the reason why they were here, and tried to remember were the closest village was.
"What were the items you were trying to gather?" Varun asked the two. He did not remember seeing any plants or roots that could be helpful in treating people, but he had heard before from others that some herbs could only be found high in the moutains.
"We could always lend you a hand, it could give us an actual goal instead of wandering aimlesly around" poke then said while she considered the possibilities.

After chuckling a little at the comment, Blade brought out the slip of paper to show the two. It was a picture of a small white flower with three petals and somewhat of a prickly stem.
"It's just this really, and that would be nice though at the moment I don't have anything to repay you for your help. That'll have to wait for awhile..."
There was a bit of hesitation, then after glancing at one another, the pair went ahead and introduced themselves to the others.
"By the way... I'm Maelthra, and the human here is Blade," said the dragon while lowering his head as if giving a bow of sorts, "And we apologize if we startled you earlier."

upon looking at the flower, poke wondered how she would be able to tell it appart from any other wild flowers. there wasn't anything outrageously differen't about it..
"we don't need any payment" poke told blade. "we just like the be helpful suvilians, don't we varun?"
"I spose so.." Upon them introducing themselves, varun realised they themselves had not. "And I am Varun, and this here is my humankin Poke, and it is of no big deal, for we may have startled you as well, since you did not know our intentions either"

For a moment or two, the thief stared at Poke, trying to figure out if she was just saying things or if she meant it when she said they wouldn't need any sort of payment. He considered it a little more, before coming to a decision.
"Well at least let me share the cut from this little errand. If you help, it's only fair you receive a part of the pay," he said with a shrug, "oh, one one more thing about the flower... it only grows in shaded areas."
As he spoke, Maelthra was moving around the area, checking to see if there were patches of foliage anywhere around. There were just small sprigs of grass here and there, but that was about it. Then again, he wasn't really looking as hard as he could have; the dragon still didn't really want to be there at the moment.
Looking up, he stared at the sky almost longingly before glancing over at the other three nearby. At this point, he figured going to the nearest town wouldn't get them much further. It would take several hours by flight, and there weren't any guarantees they'd find what they needed still. So they may as well keep rummaging around the mountains.

"a mission huh?" poke repeated, then thinnking for a sec, she nodded. "sure, I'd be happy with that". When she was told it grew in only shaded areas, she looked up to the higher bolders that littered around the area.
"Varun, could you give me a leg up?" se aske dher kulgenki, then hopped onto his head. He walked over to one of th ebolders, and places his two front claws on it, stretching his neck out as far as it would go.
"I'm not sure if you'd be able to find any flowers up there.." he commented.
"I might get lucky, you never know" poke jumped onto the bolder now, crouching low as to help her keep her balance as sh elooked about for the elusive flowers.

"More or less."
Blade was about to search the area, when he noticed Poke climbing up to get a better view. Not that he could see, but there wasn't even a trace of moss on the top of the boulders. Moving away from the two, he walked over towards two rocks.
Crouching down by them, he checked the space between the two to see if any signs of the flower were there. No luck there. For a little longer, he and Maelthra looked around to no avail.
the dragon said to his Humakin.
"Yeah, but we'll get it. I mean it when I tell people if there's something they need we can get it," muttered Blade in return, not really bothering with the thoughtspeech for now.
About fifteen minutes went by in relative silence, when a bloodcurling scream rang through the mountain tops.

poke spent some time hopping from bolder to bolder, but she had no such luck finding any of the flowers they were looking for. As she was about to start looking in a different direction, a blood curteling scream came out of no where, cauing poke to jump about a mile into the air.
Varun jumped forwards at the scream as well, but managed to catch poke by the back of her shirt with his teeth, and swing her onto his back. His hole demanur changed into that of a threatened animal, snarling and looking around for the source of the threat.
"To the sky!" poke called out, and Varun leaned back onto his haunches and launched into the air, his powerful wings working to get him as high and as fast as possible. Poke looked behind to see what blade and his kulgenki were doing, as well as gazing intently around in hopes of finding out who made the scream.

Both Blade and Maelthra stopped where they were as they heard the scream. They quickly exchanged glances then looked over towards the other two to see that they were taking to the skies. Not a bad idea there. Quickly, the human hopped onto the dragon's backside and before long they were airborne.
"I smell blood..." huffed Maelthra as the winds picked up.
Whatever was going on, it didn't sound too good. A little ways north of where Poke and Varun were located was a wood elf, who seemed to be quite bloodied and battered. The humakin's kulgenki wasn't anywhere in plain sight and he was now staggering about. There really weren't any signs of the humakin's attacker anywhere around.
