I'm unemployed!! gonk

For those of you who don't know, (which is probably most of you) I've been working in the textbook shop on campus at my uni since mid-year last year. It's highly seasonal work - about 2 1/2 - 3 months work for the busy period, then nothing for another 3 months or so until the next busy period.

Last week, I called in sick and didn't go to work Thursday or Friday as I was rostered. I stayed home watching "Farscape" instead xp

I had sent an email to work on Wednesday advising them of my availability for the next week (this week), but when I hadn't received a roster by Friday morning, I started to wonder . . .

I sent Paul (who does the rosters) an email at lunch time on Friday - no response. I tried ringing the store, but it was engaged every time stressed

I rang yesterday morning, and Mansha (one of the supervisors) said she didn't know and that Paul wasn't in, but she would get him to contact me tomorrow (Tuesday).

I checked my email when I got up this morning to find this:

Hey Cathryn,

unfortunately it the time of the year where shifts have been dramatically cut down.

I would have liked to have told in you person but you didn't come to work in the
later part of week. We will keep your details and let you know if there
is any work coming up.

*sigh* I'm not surprised. They do this every semester. It gets to the end of a shift and all of a sudden - poof - that's it, no more hours for you. Never any notice - but that's one of the things about being a casual employee, the pay's great, but they don't legally have to give any notice to dismiss you scream I need a real job!! but I hate job hunting. sad

I confess - I took the previous Friday off. When I had been working on the Thursday, I was rostered to work 9:45am - 6:15pm. But around about lunch time they said to me, and one of the other girls, "you can go home at 2:45 instead, we're not busy". To which I replied "I'm rostered for lunch from 2 till 2:30. I'm not going to go to lunch, then come back for 15 minutes". So they said I could leave at 2pm instead. I was rostered to work the same shift the next day too, but I decided that, since they didn't need me yesterday, they could manage without me today. I waited till the shop opened at 8:30, rang up and told them I had a migraine and couldn't come in. I spent the day with my boyfriend instead xd much better than going to work
