I was just wondering what everyone's views on death were. Do we go someplace happy for all eternity or do we just..disappear into nothingness, like we had never existed in the first place?

Personally I believe that religion was made to ease the instinctual fear of death, so that people could look at their loved ones dying and be reassured that they were going to a better place. Whether they are or not, I don't really know. I'd like to think we all get reincarnated, but then..mabey we really do just..vanish.

Penny for your thoughts?

well however different religons view death, it does play a central role in religions, some academic suggest that it is out of trying to find the "meaning" of death, along with creaton,, that this is how religions have come about...it seems that most of the world's religions have some kind of creations and death/afterlife story of theological logic/decree, etc on these two subjects.

Personally i dont' beleive that we just POOF apear and/or disapear when we arrive/leave this pshysical world, many theists i think would agree with me on this point in some form or another. There seems to be a either some kind of re-encarnation process, or being "given"/"delivered" to the parents from God/Gods/Goddess and then returnee to them/place (or another Being/place) after death...but feel free to disagree/debate me on this

Reincarnation. We go to a place - I won't get into the semantics surrounding any name one may choose to give it - and review our latest life, take what lessons we can from living the difficulties we have, and then descend into another. Maybe we choose our challenges, maybe we take what we get - I don't know.

i believe that when we die aor soul moves on to a spirit plane. whil it takes our souls a while to decide what it wishes to experiance in it's next life and then it has to asess(sp?) its karma and then go from there. there is actually alot more but there's to much to explain here.

Well for a start, i don't fear death. If anything, I actually welcome it.

Now back to the topic at hand.
I believe in reicarnation but I also believe there is another world/place beyond this, that acts as a gate way to other places.

So do you believe animals have a soul and an afterlife as well? Or get reincarnated?

There are many people who would say that we came up with the concept of afterlife simply because our minds cannot comprehend the fact that we just cease to be after we die. We didn't simply poof, we grew in a womb, like every other animal. A plant isn't reincarnated, nor does it have a soul, but they grow and die easy enough. Same with animal life.

People that have had near death experiences have had visions of a bright light. However, they did a study on astraunots in the spinner (where you go to get used to flight speed of a rocket) and moved the speed of that machine up so high that they lost a good majority of oxygen to their brain (much like people with near-death experiences) and they reported seeing the same thing. However, their blood pressure and health was perfectly normal.

i believe there is a life after death. i mean... there are said to be people who have died and seen their loved ones and have come back.. and then there are always those psychics that see ghosts and can communicate with spirits and so on... so based on that i would say that there is an afterlife/heaven and that some souls do not pass over to the otherside

now about reincarnation.. im not so sure about. i like the idea of it and all.. how you come back to settle or complete anything you didnt in your previous life... and there are also those that do talk of previous lives.. so maybe, maybe not... ill wait till i get to heaven and ask.. haha.. i have a lot o questions for Him..

and as i said in the 'meaning of life' thread, i see life as just a phase to get to paradise/heaven...

my question is that do you think (if you believe in going to heaven) that we see souls/people/friend&family as how we last saw them? or is it we see them how they want us to? or maybe not at all...

Is there life after (this) death? Personally I don't care. I'm not saying that in a heartless way. I mean I will live the life I have now. Death is inevitable. When it comes, it comes. I don't mind it. If there really is a life after death, then i will come too. Enough said. Stop worrying about what is to come. Just live the life you have now. It may be your first; it may be your last. Stop wasting time on what's is to come. The piont is, it will come.

I myself tend to believe more in reincarnation, however, the reincarnation depends on your life. Some of you may notice that I am changing my stance on some of my previous points from another related thread about reincarnation. However, I still believe that we are not able to view our past lives. Though I will also alter this a little bit, I will add, that we cannot view our past lives, unless it is absolutely necessary. The main reason I have changed to this belief is because I was starting to fail to see the logic in my other belief. Anyway, yes, I believe that depending on whether or not we have learned our lifes lessons, we may or may not be reincarnated. If we are not to be reincarnated we move onto another plane.

To answer Krazy Lew: Well, I don't know if we see the physical body that we remember, or if we see the soul of that person. I am leaning towards we see the soul, with a glimmer of the physical body that we remember.

I believe in reincarnation for reasons even I don't understand completely.

I believe that religion and the afterlife is something societies of people make up in order to ease the pain and anxiety of death and the loss of loved ones.

I believe that whatever happens after we die is probably beyond human comprehension.

I believe that it's a waste of time trying to figure out what will happen when we die, and eventually we will find out, if we will just be patient and wait for it to happen.

The thing about the plants is an interesting thought.

I've always wondered why it is so rare for people who have experienced past life regressions to remember being any of the following in the past:

Animals
Plants
Beings from planets other than earth

see what you mean.. but what about all those people who claim to have seen their loved ones when they died and came back?.. i guess it is possible for it to have been just a state of somewhat imagination where the mind lets them see what they want to for they are not fully dead or something.. or can it be? sorry that was just a brainstorm.. hehe..

Really, we cannot know for sure what we see in 'the beyond' as I'll call it, because well few people who go there come back, and it's arguable to say that any of those who 'came back' really went there in the first place. All we can really do is go with what we feel in our gut, and my gut tells me its a soul, with the glimmer of the physical body (though, that is only my gut feeling, and based soley on my gut feeling and nothing else).

I believe that we will never truly know what's going to happen to us when we die no matter what anyone says, so I don;t think we should concern ourselves to much with it. Just concentrate on diong the best we can here and now. Whatever happens, happenes.

i do not believe the soul and body are separate.

i believe we are all one piece. whatever happens to "me" when my body rots, it is not some airy floating presence flitting around.

either we are brought back to life at the great resurrection, or we live until then as ideas in the mind of god.

finally only Jesus knows, as he says in the gospel of John, the only one who knows about heaven is one who has come from there. ..and he was very enigmatic in his statements about it

i am not afraid of death, it seems very peaceful and natural. i do not live in order to save some part of myself for a better afterlife; i live as well as i can here and now because each moment is its own part of eternity.

when you said that it's arguable to say that any of those who 'came back' really went there in the first place, thats what i was stating when i ment it might have just been imagination... as for gut feeling.. i guess mine says... we see them as we want to...
