The night was dark and quiet, Just the sort of peaceful setting that Rajani preferred. There was no one around to bother her or call her an annoyance. It was perfect for when she felt like acting like a foal. She pranced around the meadow giggling all the while.

User Image Kito drew the cool night air deep into his lungs; the scent of late summer flowers filled his nostrils, and he sighed from the refreshing sweetness. The darkness was just as soothing, and it hung all around him like fog. He began to trot slowly through the last of the trees before a meadow, enjoying the web of stars high above. The moon was a hoofspan from full, and it's pale light cast a gentle glow on the meadow; the flowers danced in the light, though most of them were closed, and even the stones seemed to come alive.

Suddenly a sound met Kito's ears, the sound of joyous frivolity. Have the blossoms finally learned to laugh? he thought to himself merrily as he looked about. He spied a being near the opposite edge of the meadow, and as the shape turned into the moonlight he saw it was a Kirin mare. She was nearly invisible in the darkness, except when the glow the moon cast about illuminated her horns and scales. The mare frolicked through the blooms and reeds, smiling happily and almost sang as she giggled. He slowly crossed the meadow toward her, wondering if he should join, or simply let her be.

Rajani turned as she heard the leaves crackling. Her eyes widened and she bounded away startled by the presence of an unknown stallion. Normally she was a friendly mare, but she hadn't been expecting anyone to find her during her frolic. She crashed through the underbrush and only stopped when she was sure she was far enough away. She stood panting, a sheen beginning to form on her flanks.

Kito Watched the gray mare flee into the shadowy clutches of the trees at the sight of him. He was baffled at her reaction, for he hadn't approached her with a threatening demeanor or in any fashion that would cause alarm. Unfortunately the breeze offered no aid in the matter, as it blew her scent away from him.

After debating carefully for a few moments exactly what he should do Kito started after her, slowly though, to avoid frightening her once more. He wasn't quite sure why he'd reached such a decision, since she obviously didn't want him near. As he slowly made his way through brush and between trees he tried to convince his conscience that he was simply concerned for her well being; after all, something must be wrong for her to run off as if her life was threatened when he made no harassing motions toward her.

It wasn't that he had made any threatening gesture. The reason she had fled was that he had simply startled her. One does tend to get jumpy when by oneself. This is especially true when you aren't truly paying attention.

Rajani looked back the way she had come, her entire body trembling. Maybe she should go back and apologize for overreacting? She shook her head and snorted. It wasn't wise. You never knew who was and wasn't friendly.

As Kito followed the mare's trail he continued to wonder about her. Perhaps she was simply painfully shy toward strange Kirin? Maybe she'd mistaken him for a Pryrin? For no reason at all his soul hungered to know the cause of her reaction.

Her scent grew thicker then, and he knew the mare wasn't far ahead. He slowed his pace, and tried not to make any sudden noises; giving away his position would surly cause her to bolt once more.

Then again, I'm taking the stance of a Pryrin's hunting stalk, he thought to himself worriedly. I wonder if I should approach her boldly to show her that I'm not hunting her...

After a few moments he decided that presenting himself boldly would likely be the wisest choice, particularly since the first time around he was a tad sneaky, which failed him. Lifting his head and ruffling his fur, Kito strutted right through the trees toward where his nose told him she'd stopped.

Raja flicked an ear back. Was the stranger following her? Her heart was racing. She had no idea what she was so afraid of. She snorted again and looked around with eyes wide. Exactly how safe was she here in the woods on her own? She readied herself in case she had to flee again.

He appeared before her then, trying his best to act friendly and not at all threatening. She still seemed very tense, so he decided to speak to her in an attempt to calm her nerves.

"Hello miss," he said gently, "I never meant to frighten you, and I shouldn't have been spying. I am truly sorry."

He dipped his head a bit as he apologized to enforce his sincerity. Unfortunately he hadn't considered how to explain why he'd been spying on her if she decided to inquire; he quickly regretted bringing it up, but decided to wait and see what her reply would be, all the while trying to hide his growing nervousness.

She nodded, still trembling slightly. "Forgive me. It was a poor reaction on my part. I'm not used to being out so late nor being alone at such a time." The black mare gave the colorful stallion a small smile, "My name is Rajani and you are?"

A sense of relief came over Kito when the mare didn't question his motives, and he was very pleased to know that he hadn't frightened her as badly as he'd feared. He listened to her words, and was intrigued to learn her name; it was very colorful, and rather exotic.

Kito observed Rajani more closely then, subtly. Though her skin and scales were what most Kirin would consider colorful or vivid they were just as lovely as all of the colors of the rainbow. She was a gradient of grays and blacks, and even her hooves radiated with the passion for life.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Rajani," he said merrily, allowing her name to marinate his tongue, as was customary to him. "My name is Kito."

He paused to consider his next words carefully, and continued.

"There is nothing to be sorry for truly. It was a misunderstanding for us both. You said you aren't used to being alone at this time - is your herd somewhere near by?"
