Welcome to the Official Gaia Geisha Guild! We are happy that you have chosen our guild to roleplay in or to learn about geisha in. As the guild name states, we are a guild about geisha, though we tend to many aspects of Japanese culture. Please enjoy your stay with us and we hope that you will have a fantastic time here. Do not hesitate to ask any questions that we have not answered below.
Please read all the below information before asking any questions, though. Thank you!

Basic Guild Rules 1. Please stay in character. If you must say something to someone else, please post it in this manner: ((OOC: this is a post to a non-character)) The OOC means out of character...which tells us that you are talking to someone out of character.
2. Basic roleplaying rules are in order, here. If you are thinking something, please italicize it. Try to spell correctly. We like to be as literate as possible, though it seems hard with the various levels of grammar that everyone is at. If you have a question, please ask it in the questions thread of the guild. We're all here to help. We don't bite...hard.
3. Don't do anything against the gaian TOS. If you do, your posts that do this will be deleted and you risk being banned from the guild, as well as being reported to the proper gaian mod and possible banination from gaia.
4. Alright...I don't know why I have to stress this, but no cybering. It's against the gaian TOS. We don't do that, nor do we encourage it through pm's. What you and someone else do through pm's is your business. Our guild does not want to learn of this. I understand what happens sometimes between geisha and danna. Don't post it in this guild.
5. This is a very important rule. Roleplayers must respect each other. You may not talk bad about another roleplayer in this guild at all. You will receive one warning about it, if we catch you doing it. After that, we will begin deducting experience points/patron points and you will have limited access to which roleplays you may join. If you have a serious problem with another roleplayer, please speak with nitta, Mahika, angel_baby_4, or kairisesshy. We are all here to help and have fun. Don't spoil it with your nasty comments.
How this guild works:
Nitta modeled this guild after the original thread made by Mahika. (Thanks Mahika-san!)
-If you wish to become a geisha, you must first become a maid. After about 20-40 posts in your okiya (depending on the length of each post), you will turn into a maiko at the moderation from the head geisha who will npc the okiya mother, if there is currently not on. After you become a maiko, you must apprentice with the head geisha of your okiya. Please post your profile in the Okiya Placement Test thread in the SAME post as your okiya test. angel_baby_4 will edit this post erasing your test answers and then replace your test answers with the okiya you will be placed in. This helps reduce cheating between members to get into the same okiya, though it is not full-proof. Your duties are simple as a geisha. Entertain guests at the teahouse and post in your okiya. Maiko are expected to be attentive to geisha and, if they don't behave, they will be disciplined by okiya mothers. Fill out the appropriate form.
-If you want to be someone's danna, you must first become a patron and participate in the samurai/ninja threads and have asked for particular geisha at least 10 times. Your salary must be at 10,000,000 yen by this time. Otherwise, you won't be able to afford to keep your geisha happy and she will end the relationship. Just fill out the appropriate form.
-If you wish to become an okiya mother, there must be a spot available. You may choose whichever okiya you wish and just post a profile. No prior geisha experience is needed. Just fill out the appropriate form.
-Note: You DON'T have to be a roleplayer to be a part of this guild, these are merely choices for those who want to take their interest in the geisha world a step farther. You can be in this guild without rp'ing, but we encourage the interaction.

Definitions of the Okiya Mother, Geisha, Maiko, and Maids:
1.Okiya Mother: The Okiya Mother, or Okaa-san as you are REQUIRED to call her, is the head of the okiya. She paid for each maid, maiko, and geisha in this okiya. She is the head accountant and has the last word on everything that goes on in the okiya. Anyone who goes against her wishes may be thrown out of the okiya at a moment's notice. Don't disappoint her.
2. Geisha: Geisha are not prostitutes! In Japanese, "Gei" means "arts" and "sha" amounts to the "ist" of a profession (ex. Dentist, artist) which therefore makes a geisha an artist. What arts? A geisha is trained in the arts of dancing, singing, musical instruments, a variety of ceremonies, and conversation. They are expected to entertain at high-class parties as well as at public recitals. Geisha only have to answer to the Okiya Mother.
3. Maiko: Maiko are apprentice geisha. The word "maiko" translates closely to the term "dancing girls" and indeed they do dance, but their primary duty is to watch and learn from their elder "sister" geisha on how to behave and perform their arts. Maiko must do as the Okiya Mother and Geisha request.
4. Maids: Maids are on the lowest end of the totem pole here. That means, you must do any request that the Okiya Mother, the Geisha, or the Maiko request. Of course, the maiko would be more sympathetic with you, since they themselves were maids first. So, you may even still be friends with some of them. Do your work and you will be rewarded.
Duties/Rules of Okiya Mother, Geisha, Maiko, and Maids:
Okiya Mother Duties: Accounting: You must do the accounting for the okiya. That means, keep up with the treasury. Most of your posts in the okiya should deal with encouraging the geisha, making sure the maiko are on track, and working the maids to the bone. After all, they are all here to make you money. From time to time, you may be asked by a crew member to tell a maid she has proven herself and is now ready to turn into a maiko. These are your duties.
Geisha Duties: Studies: Everything from shamisen to flower arranging, a geisha is expected to always be learning. They are artists, so be sure to show this throughout all of their actions. Housework: No geisha is too proper for cooking and cleaning. They will help out in their okiya. Entertainment: All customers are to be welcomed and made to feel at home. Discussion, humor, singing, dancing, and helping to serve food are all proper ways for a geisha to entertain a patron. Geisha are not expected to bring the tray in, but to call for the maids to get the food. Men are not allowed to pour their own drinks, so a geisha must pour it for them. Okiya Etiquette: Just as you would not enter another person's home without permission, no geisha may enter an okiya that is not their own without a special invite. If this happens, the geisha will be put on probation and will not receive payments or patron points for that week she is on probation. If a geisha's maiko enters another's okiya, the geisha will be punished as well. So please, keep your maiko in line. Her actions reflect upon you.
Maiko Duties: Apprenticeship: A maiko is expected to call her sister Onee-chan, which means Older Sister. You must watch your geisha carefully. If you misbehave, your geisha will be punished as well. She may decide to drop you at any time, if this happens. Dropped maiko will have to start from scratch with patron counts. Studies: Everything from shamisen to flower arranging, a geisha is expected to always be learning, so a maiko is in training for this. You are also expected to attend the Maiko Training School and take TWO classes Housework: No maiko is too proper for cooking and cleaning. They will help out in their okiya. You are more like maids, who are training to become geisha. Though your studies are tough, you are expected to do all that is in your power for the geisha in your okiya. You will be the ones to help clean up after them. They are very messy and you are expected to learn their ways, as well as clean them up. Entertainment: All customers are to be welcomed and made to feel at home. Discussion, humor, singing, dancing, and helping to serve food are all proper ways for a geisha to entertain a patron. Maiko are expected to help out, even if it means bringing over trays of food to the patron. Men are not allowed to pour their own drinks, so a maiko must help pour it for them. Okiya Etiquette: Just as you would not enter another person's home without permission, no maiko may enter an okiya that is not their own without a special invite...from a geisha only. If this happens, the maiko will be put on probation and will not receive payments or patron points for that week she is on probation. Your Onee-chan will be put on probation, as well. If you don't want to be dropped from apprenticeship, I would expect you to behave. Encouragement: You will be assigned a maiko, to whom you will be responsible pm'ing when she does not post. If the maiko resigns her position in a pm to you, alert a crew member immediately through a pm. We need to keep the profiles up to date and, if a maiko resigns, then we need to take that profile down.
Maid Duties: Posts: Number your posts, so that we can see how many you have Cleaning and Errands: Clean your okiya. This is what the majority of your posts should pertain to. When the Okiya Mother, a Geisha or a Maiko asks you to do something, ask no questions and do as you are told. You are a lowly maid who has just joined the okiya. Respect them, because all three positions are over you. Though, report any abuse that happens to your Okiya Mother or Head Geisha.

Definitions of Danna and Patron:
1. Danna: A danna is a geisha's top patron. A danna will sponsor a geisha and pay for her living expenses and usually buy her gifts and such. A geisha is not required to give her danna any "special treatment" or "favors" but if she chooses to do so, that is her business. To become a danna, you are required to have at least 10,000,000 yen. Geisha are quite expensive.
2. Patron: A patron is someone who pays for the company of a geisha. When I say "company" I mean it only in the best way. The patron pays for a geisha to attend a banquet or party at a teahouse and during these parties, the geisha may dance, sing, play instruments, talk to the guests about the arts, or even play drinking games.
Duties/Rules of Danna and Patron:
Danna Duties: Politeness: The geisha are performing for YOU so be nice. Intelligence: Spelling and grammar help your specific wishes to be carried out. Good conversation about your missions at the headquarters keeps conversations going, but geisha love to be talked about and told how beautiful they are. Please ask them to perform. Common Sense: All of gaia's rules still apply and this guild does NOT promote cybering or anything of the like. If you aren't obeying the rules, you'll be banned. Expenses: You will be required to give 10,000,000 at the end of each month, if you are a danna. You won't have to pay for simple things like the teahouse expenses anymore. This will cover everything, along with any gifts that you decide to give a geisha. To pay for this, you may want to try on the A Rank missions. Patron Duties: Politeness: The geisha are performing for YOU so be nice. Expenses: You will be required to go to make and attend parties at the teahouse, as well as mingle with the geisha in the front room. Expenses are explained elsewhere.

How to enter into the roleplays
In case you somehow missed the earlier information, I will explain to you some new things in here, as well as remind you how to post your profiles.
All profiles should be placed in the appropriate threads. For maids--since you cannot become a geisha without first becoming a maiko, and since you cannot become a maiko without first being a maid-- you must post your profile in the "Geisha/Maiko Profiles & Okiya Placement Test-Please Do This!" thread. First, take the test and then in the SAME post, please place your profile underneath your test. angel_baby_4 or Dea and #Teddy# will grade your test and place you into the appropriate okiya.
Where Maids Post: You are only allowed to post in the okiya, unless you are summoned to the tea house by a geisha or a maiko for a VERY brief moment of time to deliver something. You must post at least 20 longer posts to become a maiko. If you do not post longer-sized posts, then it will take even longer for you to become a maiko. As many as 40 posts! Please do your part and you'll become a maiko in almost no time.
Where Maiko Post: You are allowed to post in both the okiya and the tea house rp's. You are not allowed to attend any tea house party without your Onee-chan accompanying you. If you do not have an Onee-chan, then you may not attend a party, even if you are requested by a patron. You are also expected to attend the Maiko Training School and take TWO classes We are still working on this, but maiko who want to participate in the patron missions may be allowed a certain amount of points which, if they add up enough, then the maiko will be able to become a geisha without the requests of the patrons.
Where Geisha Post: You are allowed to post anywhere. Geisha are urged to help out in any way that they can. You must be a geisha for at least two weeks before you are allowed to apprentice anyone. Then, you may ask your Okiya Mother to apprentice a maiko that is in your own guild.
Where Patron Post: You are allowed to post in the missions, the tea house, and various places where patron/danna are allowed in the town. If you make enough money in the missions, you are more than encouraged to take part in parties at the tea house. Deductions will be made monthly from each patron from the tea house if he attends then main tea house. If patron start to become scarce in the tea house, then this will be changed to where the pay will be deducted from EACH patron, whether he even attends the tea house or not.
Where Danna Post: You are allowed to post in the missions, the tea house, and various places where patron/danna are allowed in the town. They will also be allowed full entry into the okiya of the geisha that they are the danna of. A Danna's presence is always encouraged. A Danna will also be allowed to make party threads of his own, at a small price, to invite anyone he pleases.

The F.A.Q.
Question: Where are the patron or the geisha rp threads? Answer: The patron rp threads are in the Samurai/Ninja RPG Forum subforum, as the geisha/maiko/maid rp threads are in the Geisha Related RPG Forum subforum located at the top of the threads in the main "guild forum" of this guild.
Question: I was wondering, when it a maiko meets all of the requirements to become a geisha, does the picture on the id banner/card change? Answer: The Answer is yes! The new geisha will have to resubmit her information to the thread and request her new geisha card.
Question: Will this geisha have to move another okiya because of there so many maiko? Answer: The Answer is no. When anyone in the guild takes their test, they are stuck in that okiya for the remainder of the rp. ^^ Under special circumstances, though, some geisha may be moved to other okiya. That will be explained later on, when the points and yen system go into effect for the maids/maiko/geisha, as well!
Question: May a maiko go a head and rp in the tea house thread without her Onee-chan? Answer: The Answer is yes! Go ahead and rp in the tea house. Light conversation is encouraged. Look up to the geisha for their ways. This was the original rp thread, so maiko are always welcome there.
Question: One last question, does a maiko have to be invited with a geisha to attend a party, even if a patron invited the maiko and not the geisha? Answer: The Answer is no. The maiko will attend the party, unless the patron specifically asks that a certain maiko does not attend the party. There are only four slots-- two slots for geisha and two slots for maiko-- so if a geisha has more than one maiko, she may have to only invite one of them with her. Usually the patron will choose, though.
Question: Should you submit a picture even when you are a maid so the guild mods have one of you for when you become a maiko? Answer: If you have one, submit it into your profile.
Question: Where do you go to get a kimono? Answer: Aekea has a shop where you can get one. You can compare prices with the Aekea shop and the ones on the marketplace (found in the Isle De Gambino) to see if you can buy one a bit cheaper. We do not provide kimono to the users in this guild, though. There are too many users and too little funding to do this.
Still have a question after reading this F.A.Q. and the above posts, then please ask it here:

Nitta Here is your guild captain! You will respect her, at all times, and you may direct any question towards her, though if she is unsure she may redirect you somewhere else. She accepts join requests, makes certain members crew members and updates the first page on the guild. If you are lucky, you may get this Head Geisha of the Tsuchinobara Okiya to apprentice you!
GeishaGuild Here is your guild mule! Please send any donations you want to send to the guild to her. You may pm her saying what the donation is for, but other than that...do not contact her. Thank you!
Mahika Here is one of the Geisha of the Hinohasu Okiya. She was the creator of our original thread that led to the starting of this guild. She isn't very active, due to her real life activities, but she is an important member of the crew. Please don't pm her with any questions, as she will probably not know the answers.
angel_baby_4 Here is a CAMEO Head Geisha of the Kanenokikyou Okiya. She is no longer active in the guild! Please DON'T pm her. Her inbox fills up so quickly, that it's hard to keep track of everything. All questions should be asked in the Questions thread, instead. Her duties included grading the tests of the okiya, sorting profiles into the appropriate okiya, apprenticing maiko, accepting join requests, helping out with the patron threads, and being the current guild treasurer. (May eventually return)
Dea and #Teddy# Here is the Head Geisha of the Kazenotanpopo Okiya. She helps angel_baby_4 with just about everything for the guild. Please only pm her if it's necessary, since there is a Questions thread in the guild for all questions to be asked in. Her duties include grading the tests of the okiya, sorting profiles into the appropriate okiya, apprenticing maiko, accepting join requests, and helping out with the patron threads.
kairisesshy Here is the Head Geisha of the Mizunoyuri Okiya. She is wonderful and can help to answer ANY questions that anyone has in the guild. Her main duties include helping new members out in the question thread, apprenticing maiko, accepting join requests, and sorting out profiles into the kenban.
MemoryDragon Here is the Head Geisha of the Hinohasu Okiya. She is still learning everything about geisha, so please do not ask her any questions directly about geisha themselves, but she knows the main workings of the guild, since she is always in contact with the other head geisha. Her main duties include helping new members out in the question thread, apprenticing maiko, accepting join requests, and helping out with any other odd things.
Omega_Virus This is the patron crew member. He is the head of everything that deals with patron and danna. If you have any questions about the missions or whether or not your profile is appropriate as a patron, then please talk to him. ONLY direct questions about patron or danna towards Omega, please. Thank you!

The Affiliates
As any good guild will do, we have affiliates. Our geisha guild supports these other geisha guilds and we are proud to be good friends with their members. Please respect them and allow them free entrance to view and comment in our guild, as long as it abides by our rules. <3
