The crackle of the wireless in the shop room was barely audible from the back where Shade was dressing for the day, but he caught the most important word in the morning's broadcast- rain. He didn't have much in the way of hats or hoods, but he did have a decent umbrella, and that would do for the day. He turned off the radio after the morning news, extinguished his stove, and locked everything up in the only finished cabinet in the room before stepping outside to take his first tour of the town.

Timothy tossed and turned absent-mindedly in his bed. He felt groggy, and didn't feel like doing anything.
"Sweety, come and eat your oats!" His mother shouted from the dining room. Annoyed, Timothy forced himself out of his bed, only to fall back again. Timothy closed his eyes, and began to sleep... again.

[Maybe if we keep posting, others will come join in.]
Shade felt like even more of a stranger than before, wandering through town under a black umbrella and looking very much like either a lost tourist or a government agent. He paused and looked back along the road, so that he would know it again when he returned, and then continued on into the heart of the town.
