Desiree/Frost

A shadow sneaked trough the thick growth of the forest. Dark eyes flashed as they fixed on a small white creature. Oblivious to the predator watching it, the rabbit continued to pick off berries from a bush in the clearing. She smiled with satisfaction and pride in her skill. She was improving a little every day. Suddenly Desiree leapt out of her hiding place and landed right on top of her chosen target. The rabbit barely saw her before her jaws closed around it. She squeezed until warm liquid filled her mouth.

'Success!'

Desiree smiled to herself and her dark aura manifested itself with her delight. She looked around for a suitable place to eat her catch. A rock caught her eye and with several leaps she was on top of it. She laid down, keeping an eye on the whole clearing as she ate.

Unknowingly to her, Desiree was also being watched. The male himself had come to this small forest to hunt and had been very surprised when the dark female had snatched his rabbit. He observed her, without revealing himself. At first he wasn’t really interested in her. She was quite the looker, true. She was skilled too. But it wasn’t until the dark smoke surrounded her that his interest was really sparked. ‘Well, well, well, what have we here?’ Frost tilted his head with an amused smile. This was worth looking into. He came out of the shadows and approached the rock she was laid upon. “You know, I was after that rabbit myself.”

Desiree's ears perked at the sound of the male's voice and slowly looked away from her catch and eyed him. No one she had ever met before. "Well what do you want me to do about it? I caught it fair and square." She wasn't in the mood for random encounters. All she wanted was to be left alone to her meal. "There are plenty of rabbits around." She added, making it clear she wasn't going to share. It was a small piece of meat anyway.

Her snippy response slightly dampened Frost’s good mood, but he wasn’t about to give up. His curiosity had to be satisfied. He sighed “Don’t worry, doll, I’m not going to steal your prey. “ He said nonchalantly. ”I’m not very hungry. I was just curious about that…smoky thing you had going on a few minuets ago. How did a pretty little thing like you get such an, ah, ability?” He asked, straight to the point.

Desiree frowned slightly. This guy wasn’t going away, was he? She listened to him with disinterest and nipped on her food. When he mentioned the smoke her eyes widened a fraction. Well damn. She paid more attention to what he was saying next. He wasn’t scared. Curious. Most suddenly found a very important reason not to be around her. She couldn’t blame them, it could be scary, her ability. She chewed on a piece of meat thoughtfully before answering: “I didn’t ‘get’ it from anywhere. I was born with it.”

Frost smiled, he was making progress! Well, slow, but some progress anyway. She wasn’t very willing to talk about it. “Do you know what is it? Where does it come from?” He asked carefully. Just as he said that it suddenly occurred to him that he had no idea what the female’s name was. “What is your name?” He corrected that little mistake immediately. “I’m Frost.” He introduced himself with a slight bow of the head.

Desiree tilted her head, silently debating with herself whether to give her name to this strange male. “I’m Desiree.” She said at last and bowed her head. “I don’t know what this thing is. Don’t really care anyway.” She said dismissively. “It is useful sometimes and controllable. That’s all I need to know.” She was getting slightly annoyed by all the questions. No one had been that curious about her smoke before. But it was also flattering in away.

“Desiree…it’s a beautiful name.” Frost complimented. “I am pleased to meet your acquaintance.” She was a very interesting lady indeed. And attractive too. Banishing the thought, Frost instead said “How can you not care? It’s something so unique!” He looked at her with disbelief. “Don’t you think that knowing more about it could help you develop it even further?” If he could do something like that he would have liked to know everything about it. It baffled him that someone could be so disinterested in something that strange. Was she stupid or something? It didn't seem so.

“The pleasure is all mine.” Desiree chuckled. Well at least he had some manners. “Thank you, I love my name.” She smiled for the first time since the start of the conversation. Her mother, real mother that is, had given her that name.

She huffed, her good mood almost completely gone. “I don’t, deal with it!” Really, what was it to him? It was her choice, her ability. “I don’t think there’s more to it, really.” She said truthfully. It was an interesting thought though. “Look, it’s getting late and I’ll have to go soon. Maybe we could finish this some other time?” She asked as she looked at the sun, which had begun to set.

Frost suppressed a sigh. Was she playing hard to get? "Oh, but doll, we just met. I can't let you go just yet." He said with a small smile. Then he hopped on the rock and laid down right next to her. "At least watch the sunset with me. I promise I wont ask about your ability anymore, I can see you are not comfortable talking about it." He looked straight ahead, to the beautiful shades of orange and red that were coloring the sky as the sun sank lower and lower.

"H-hey! You can't-" She tried to protest as he invaded her personal space. Her protests went unheeded however and she gave up. Desiree sighed, but there was a smile on her face. "Alright, alright, Mr. I-don't-take-no-for-an-answer!" She chuckled. "I'll do it as long as you keep your promise." She turned to the sunset as well and they both watched quietly for a while. A soft look came upon her face as she admired the sight. Without noticing, she leaned on his shoulder.

Frost winked at the femme. "You can bet on it, doll." And just as he promised, he didn't say anything at all for the next few minuets. While she was so entranced with the sunset he stole a few glances at her. She really was a 'pretty little thing'. When he felt her weight against his shoulder he smirked. 'And you were trying to get rid of me just a few minuets ago.' He shifted closer to her. The sun had almost completely disappeared and as he wondered how to make her stay a little longer a drop of water hit his face. It was followed by many more and Frost realised it had begun to rain. "Darn it!" He muttered. "Now I have to look for a den!" Lately he had gotten used to sleeping outside, under the stars.

Frost's irritated muttering snapped Desiree from her trance. The last rays of the sun were almost gone and she just noticed it was raining. Looking up at the sky she commented, with furrowed brows. "Those clouds look menacing. It's going to get worse soon." She looked at the male beside her and wondered whether she should invite him in the den she had found a couple of days ago. She was a wanderer so she rarely made dens on her own - she didn't stay in them for long. "If you don't have a place to hide from the rain you come stay with me tonight." She offered.

One look at the sky told him that Desiree was right. It was going to rain heavily tonight. Frost looked at her with surprise when she made her offer. "Are you sure? You seemed eager to get rid of me just a while ago." He said with an amused smirk. The rain got stronger and soon they would both be soaking wet unless they moved. Frost dropped the act. "I'd love to come. Let's go before it gets even worse." He motioned to the sky.

Desiree nodded and hopped off the rock. "This way." She called him and started leading him towards the den. She walked at a quick pace, cursing herself for not noticing the dark clouds on time. Which wasn't very surprising considering they had come from behind them. Soon enough thy reached the den. The entrance was well hidden and unless one was told where it was, it was easy to miss.

"Here it is." Desiree said when they finally entered. "Home sweet home. For now, at least."

"It's very cozy." Frost commented when he entered. He looked around. It wasn't very big, but it was enough for both of them. What was more important, it was dry and warm. "You said you found this place? You must be very lucky, it is so well hidden." He would have missed it and continued straight ahead if she hadn't suddenly vanished in the tall grass.

Desiree laughed nervously. "Yeah, well I kind of fell head-first into it while I was hunting the other day." It was an embarrassing story and she hoped he wouldn't ask more about it. Instead she went to a bed of leafs and grass she had made for herself. "This is where I sleep." She nestled herself in. "You can pick any other spot."

Frost chuckled at the image. "Imagine that. And you looked so graceful hunting today." He chuckled again. He watched her with a tilted head as she prepared to sleep and told him about the sleeping arrangements. He watched her quietly for several moments and smirked. "But I don't want any other spot." He said as he laid down next to her, once again invading her personal space. "I want this spot." He smiled innocently at her.

Desiree let out an exasperated sigh. "As you wish." She didn't even try to push him away, she knew she couldn't. And being nestled between him and the wall was very warm and comfortable. "I don't know how anyone can be so annoying." She shook her head with a small smile. "Good night." She turned to wall, away from him, and closed her eyes.

Frost chuckled again when she made no attempt to chase him off. "Good night, doll." He said quietly and put his head on her upper back. He felt very comfortable here, with her. He could stay for a while. He had been traveling for so long. Staying in one place for a couple of weeks seemed like a very good idea.
