Ok the other day I was watching Gone With The Wind. This is during the Civil War keep that in mind. She was wearing a corset and she was talking to her friend about this guy Rhett Butler was glaring at her and she commented saying, "Why he is staring at me like he knows what I look like without my shimmey on!" And is that like Southern talk for a corset or something?

I love my chemise(s) I have a few, and still wear some for PJs.
Its a soft white cotton/linen, dress long shirt, that you would put on before putting on your corset. They are very transparent because you don't want to wear a lot. You wear it because sweating on that would be easier to clean then your corset.
Pic examples of a chemise...

The same Chemise, closeup, and with a corset over it.
