Name: Dayo Age: 20 Sex: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Journeyman Farmcrafter Rank: Junior Journeyman
Physical Description: Extremely tall, thin and graceful, Dayo is dark of skin and eyes, her dark chocolate color a definite sign of inherited tone rather than a tan. Eyes a deep, dark brown match her hair which touches her mid-back, when not intricately done in a seemingly elaborate design. If one was to notice that her beautiful, thin braids were actually dreadlocks, they would realize her hair is actually much, much longer than it appears.
Like her parents and siblings, Dayo puts a lot of time, effort, and respect into her hair, her thin, exotic dreads always well-cared for and starting just against her scalp, an attitude that carries into her daily life. It is rarely down, and usually in some type of bun, or decorative wrap, with bright beads and metals entwined. This girl has never had a haircut, clearly, and has been maintaining her hair since she was a small child. This, along with her strong, lithle body sets her apart from others, rather than her pretty face, just as her manner does. The rock unmoving in the water. She tends to wear clothing bright in color whenever possible, preferring light-weight, looser fabrics.
Personality: Clean, organized, and down-to-earth are three of the traits that shape Dayo's life. The girl has had many responsibilities assigned to her care alone [as have all of her siblings, a part of running a family craft, after all], and that has caused a sense of duty in the tall young woman, as well as an appreciation for hard work and smart choices. Despite enjoying labor, Dayo has no problems with finding easier, more effective ways to do things and if a change in tradition is proven smart, is more than willing to accomodate it.
Perhaps due to working with plants all day, or in one of the less celebrated crafts, Dayo is neither prideful nor modest, prefering a straight-forward approach to get things done. Spending her life working with grown, dour men and farmercrafters with a distaste for the dragonriders that take their 'hard work for granted', she has both distance from the awe of dragons and their riders that some candidates have, as well as the ability to see wingriders as people, rather than icons of a threat to come.
With her steady ways and thought-out decisions, Dayo is observant enough to be able to speak and get along with [not necessarily be friends with] many types of people, if it's something for the good of the whole, though this may be a direct result of her matter-of-fact approach to interpersonal relations. She's not cold, rather she seems to appreciate everyone's contributions, recognize them for their efforts, and move on to the next assignment for the day.
She does not tend to keep many close friends, the nearest approximation being farmcrafters, those that pick up deliveries, or traders that she has known for long enough to being a friendly banter with, though the banter is more on their part then hers.
It's said that if one pays attention, Dayo's humor is dry, observational thing, one that hides behind her ledgers and plant charts and slips out in casual, neutral statements.
History: Born and raised at Nerat Hold, Dayo's entire, large extended family is made up of farmcrafters and traders. The girl's immediate family grows and deals mainly in expensive spices, mainly the supplies of ginger, cinnamon, basil, chamomile, clove, oregano, nutmeg, etc, that are sent to the Ista weyr. One child of many [nine, to be exact], Dayo was lucky in the sense that her parents didn't pressure any of their children for a particular role in the family craft, despite birth order. As such, her oldest sister and middle brother plan on running the family trade when their parents give it up, with Dayo to handle the books and trade decisions if she fails to impress.
Beginning her apprenticeship at the Farmercraft Hall on Nerat at a very early age, Dayo's skill for organization and recall were noticed at the very start of her teaching and became her focus. Not only is the girl capable of planting and bringing produce to fruition, she is now responsible in her family [and for several surrounding families that work on the same farmlands] for working with senior journeymen and masters to choose crops.
Studying soil and weather patterns, as well as understanding the properties of various plants, as well as cost-effectiveness has provided Dayo with a sense of looking at the whole of things, rather than each individual crop.
A successful farm takes many things, proper book-keeping, wise crop selection, maintenance of equipment, the organization of farmcrafters, and over-all, farmwide cooperation, all of which fall into Dayo's hand.
In fact, she was taking stock of a delivery for Ista Weyr when she was searched at 20 turns of age. Due to their large family, and the grooming of one of her younger sister's in her likeness, she was encouraged to accept by her family.
She would only be able to stand for two hatchings, after all, and if she impressed, that would be marvelous, but if she didn't, she wouldn't be gone so long that the farm fell into disarray.
Now she finds herself rooming with two very different girls, Yali, who Dayo intends on helping correct, or get rid of, her dreads and Uuni, who is talked about by Yali, but she has yet to have met.
As for Dayo, she spends most of her time in the kitchens or those who do deliveries, not for drugery work as her skills are more specialized, but to help keep count of stock and manage storerooms, as well as some cooking.
Pets: None, unless you consider plowbeasts and hens 'pets'. Other/Talents: Skilled with reading and writing and math, Dayo is also good at drawing various types of crops as well as the stars, which she loves. She has a talent for 'predicting' the weather, and creates some pleasing blends of spices in her free time. She is a superb whistler, and of course, is skilled with hair design.
Will this character be a candidate? Yes

I'm sorry to tell you that due to a suddenly recent influx in Journeyman-level Candidates, we've been asked not to allow anymore for the time being. :[ I love Dayo already though, and I see no problems with her if you'd want to make her an Apprentice instead. Sorry again!

Okay, I'll see what I can do with her, since it seems odd to me for her character to only be an apprentice. :O I do have lazy ol' Korist as a journeyman harper. Perhaps I could make him an apprentice and have Dayo be a journeyman instead...?

Thaaaat.... would work just fine with me. xD Since it wouldn't add to the numbers, but then we could still tweak it. Sounds fine to me! <3

Thank you! I'll edit Korist and bump him up to the front so you can see the change and approve Dayo. <33333
