The sun was just rising a little above the horizon when Storm Chaser bolted out of the opening of the cave. There was a slight cool breeze that combed its fingers through his fur, sending a shiver down his spine. The air was fresh with the smell of dew setting on the tall grass. They would have plenty of time to play by the ocean before the heat of the day reached its peak. Storm Chaser stopped short when he noticed his sister Little Cloud wasn't behind him, and frowned. He ran back towards the opening of the cave and skid to a stop, grinning from ear to ear when his sister emerged from inside. He had been waiting all night for the morning to come, and he was definitely not going to waste any time.

"Come on, Little Cloud!" Storm Chaser bounced up and down with glee, unable to stay in one place for more than a few seconds. Still grinning, he challenged her. "I'll race you to the shore!"

User ImageHer brother was an idiot sometimes. And though she considered him her best friend, she was so not in the mood for his antics. She hadn't even gotten the crust from her eyes and he was already hollering at her. Little Cloud snorted and gave a hiss at him as she stretched out, taking her time. She was so mean to him sometimes. Her eldest sister had to go to lessons, and her youngest couldn't leave the cave today due to her an illness that was acting up. It was one they were all used to; the pollen made her sneeze or something weird like that. Her whole family was weird!

"Storm, stop yelling. I'm right here after all." Her ears were twitching after that screaming echoed through the cave. Gaining a bit of speed, she jumped on her brother and tried to bite his ears and nose before leaping off of him and into the slick grass that made her slide. Little Cloud found herself so cool sometimes she could hardly stand it. And this was one of those times. "Try doing that, Storm. Bet you can't! I'm the only one that's awesome enough too!" Oh, how she bragged about the simplest things she could do. But she had to because usually there was no one else to share her accomplishments with.

"Okay, okay. Just hurry up" He lowered his voice a little, but it was still quite loud. Storm Chaser was very impatient. He trotted in circles around Little Cloud while she took her sweet time getting up, nudging her with his nose. "Come on, you know I hate waiting."

When Little Cloud had finally gotten up, Storm Chaser raced down the path towards the ocean. He smiled happily, feeling the wind against his face. And then his sister landed upon him. He tried to throw her off him, and ducked his head when she attempted to bite his ear. He watched slightly amused as Little Cloud slid down the dew covered grass. She challenged him to slide down, and Storm Chaser couldn't resist a challenged.

"You wanna bet?" He laughed and slid down, but was not as successful as his sister, and landed flat on his belly. The wet grass plastered his fur over his eyes. He shook his head and threw a lopsided grin in her direction.

Cloud laughed at her brother's failed attempt and shook her head. "See? You're not as awesome as me," she said, her grin only getting wiser and wider. Shaking herself off, she headed down the path for the beaches and sighed.

Why her brother wanted to get there early was beyond her. Even if it got hot, they'd be near water, so they could just go swim or lay in it to cool them off. Whatever. Maybe she could find some pretty shells that she could wear or something. "Why don't we see who can catch the bigger fish when we get there? You know; I heard there's a Saigh or two that lives down there. One of them's supposedly pink and speckled and the others brown and gots stripes on it." She didn't know the genders, just what she'd heard from the patrolling Saigh from their clan.

Storm Chaser blew the fur out of his eyes, still laying flat on his belly. Little Cloud started down the path and he called after her. "Yeah yeah. You're the best." He got up off the ground and trotted behind his sister. Girls...he shook his head and sighed, a little smile spread across his face.

Although Little Cloud got on his nerves sometimes with her attitude, he loved her all the same. She was the closest and definitely the best sister anyone could ask for. Storm Chaser laughed at the challenge his sister brought up. "Alright, you're on." Pfft. Catching a fish, how hard can /that/ be? He was thoughtful for a moment, Little Cloud's last comment had not yet sunk in. Then he realized that they may not be the only ones there. "You know, maybe we'll see them. Better hope they don't getcha!" He laughed, grinning at her. The thought of unknown Saighs near his sister was unpleasant, and he closed the distance between them.

"Like they could catch up with me!" She picked then to look over her shoulder and realized that her brother was quickly catching up to her. Snorting a bit more, the female tried to pick up her pace and only stopped when her paws hit the soft sand and she lost traction. That sent her skidding over the sand, kicking it up and making dust fly everywhere before she went face first and did a flip, sliding a few more feet that way.

Now she was dull in color, covered in sand and felt like she weighed a million bajillion pounds with all the sand stuck in her fur and ears. "LAME!" Cloud shouted as she attempted to shake herself clean.

Storm Chaser couldn't help but laugh as his sister slid across the sand, a miniature sand storm trailing along behind her. "Second time today you've done that, the sliding thing." He grinned at her. Storm Chaser pawed the sand under his feet, examining the tiny grains in his large paw. "Don't see how it's possible, but you managed it." Still smiling, he let the grains of sand trickle to the ground before trotting over to his sister.

"Now that we're here, got anything in mind?" He glanced around, still cautious. Storm Chaser didn't believe much of the tales Little Cloud liked to tell, but he always told himself that it's better safe than sorry.

Clearing her throat, Cloud looked around at the beach and moved towards the water. "We could go find some shells!" She chirped happily, not noticing the big paw prints in the water. Of course she wouldn't notice that, Little Cloud had a very absent mind because she wasn't the one that had to go to lessons.

"C'mon! Let's go get them~" She said, her pace picking up, paws kicking up sand in her attempt to leave her brother in the dust.

"Um...Cloud?" Storm Chaser's eyes were locked on the oversized holes on the shore. He assumed they were paw prints from some large unknown creature, but he couldn't be sure. The murky water had shifted the sand and shaped the original shape to nothing but large holes that occurred at regular intervals across the beach. "I don't think it's such a great idea to get so close to the water..."

"Oh, you worrywart. Shut up and c'mon! You're the one that wanted to go to the beach anyway!" She said, snorting as she glanced back over her shoulder to look at her brother with a teasing look. Obviously fearless and unconcerned with the paw prints. She figured it was true, the rumors of another Saigh living on the shores.

Slowly, Storm Chaser crept behind his sister, glancing up and down the beach. The quietness sent a shiver down his spine. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary...except for the paw prints. Storm Chaser has been up and down the beach at least a dozen times, and have never before noticed the paw prints in the water. Maybe they've been there all along but he never really paid attention, too busy doing something else. Cloud's crazy tale's are getting to him. He shook his head and tried to relax a little.

They walked further and further down the beach, past anywhere Storm Chaser has ever gone before. The cave was now just a little speck far away in the distance. A twig snapped somewhere in the tall grass. Storm Chaser's ears perked up, listening to the source of the sound. His eyes desperately scanned his surroundings and his body tensed. "Cloud, did you hear that?"

"Did I hear what? You're being paranoid," Little Cloud said, basically ignoring her brother as she flipped over a shell only to find a little crab in it. With a delighted squeak, she giggled and began to paw at the crab in a shell and grinned wickedly. "Look, Storm! There's crabs in these pretty shells. Maybe we can get 'em out and eat them?" She asked, nub tail flicking back and forth quickly.

Clearly she loved the beach. But she did get a slight feeling they were being watched. Whatever. It was probably their mother sneaking up on them to make sure they were ok or something. So they might get in trouble later, big deal. She had no way of knowing it was a dark brown male who was watching them from the tree line, looking slightly confused at the two cubs.

But Storm Chaser did not relax. Every muscle in his small body was tense and cautious. Cloud, however, looked rather annoyed with him. She was distracted for a moment by the crab in the shell. Taking it as an opportunity, he crept towards the tall grass. "Cloud, you try and get that crab out of the shell..." He called to her absentmindedly, eyes fixed in the general direction where the twig had snapped. He had to distract her so she wouldn't follow him. Whatever was out there may not be friendly. Or safe. It wasn't such a smart idea going alone either. But, curiosity got the best of him.

She didn't hear him, she didn't noticed he snuck away, even. She was way to distracted with the stupid shell crab. "How'd you get in there anyway? So retarded. With a snort, she tried to chew it out, grinning like mad and laughing.

User ImageShe'd been watching the cubs for some time now. Ever since they got onto the territory she and a few others claimed. They weren't a clan, by any means, but they were close. So very close. Still, something about these two cubs seemed like they came from very good families. They were spoiled, obviously from the shine of their coat and no scars on them, they were careless. Thus.. they were at the beach without knowing exactly what was down here.

A grin spread across Sandglass's face as the male became aware of her presence. Now, he was an interesting looking one.

With his nose stuck on the ground, Storm Chaser zig zagged around in the tall grass trying to pick up a trail. There was definitely someone or something here and he was going to find out. Focused on finding a suspicious smell, Storm Chaser didn't look at where he was going. He hit something. It was pink. And soft. Furry. He looked up and gasped. "Ahhhhh!" Without hesitating, he ran. He ran as fast as his short little legs would take him. The concept of another Saigh had not processed in his head. All he knew was that he had to get out, and fast.

Storm Chaser slowed down once he was back on the sandy beach. Panting, he dragged his exhausted body over to his sister. Little Cloud was still clawing vigorously at the crab in front of her, who hid inside his shell for his dear life. Storm Chaser looked back towards the tall grass, wondering where the pink Saigh was. Had she followed him or did she flee when she saw him? Is she still hiding there inside the grass? Will she come out? Questions flew through his head. He sat down with a plop and sighed.
