It was such a beautiful day out! Truly. A pleasant breeze was blowing by that made for rather nice flying conditions, so the young mare had decided to venture out a bit on her own. (A rather unusual move on her part considering that she mostly preferred to stick by her brothers.)
It was times like this as she soared through the air that Chococo often felt sorry for her father. Out of their entire family, he was the only one who couldn't fly. While the brown stallion always insisted that he was just fine down on the ground, she still felt a bit a pity for him.
Wow, have I come this far already? Chococo thought to herself as she looked down at the unfamiliar stretch of forest below her. I guess now is as good a time as any to stop for a small rest. Picking out a small clearing down below, the Airin circled around to land with a quiet grace. Glancing around only briefly to make sure there were no predators in sight, she turned her head to give her wings a quick, light preen.

Tanner munched happily on some nice plump berries from a bush of his favorite kind. They grew near his home in the forrest, but on the outer edge of the treeline. The day was beautiful, and well.. he had nothing better to do.
Tanner kept to himself most of the time. He sighed to himself at his loneliness. He hadn't seen his friend Aphrodite in a long while, and she was pretty much the only friend he had. He wished he knew more kirin, but he just never really got out there to meet anyone.
As he was enveloped in his thoughts, he heard a whoosh nearby signifying something was landing. He raised his head and his ears perked up a bit to catch the sound of what the creature might be. He sniffed the air, getting a hint of another kirin on the breeze. "Ah," he thought, "maybe I will meet someone new today." He finished his mouthful of berries and made his way over to the small field where he had heard the other kirin land.

Chococo continued her light preen, relaxing a bit into it. It always felt so nice to do. The mare was hardly vain, but even so she did her best to take care of her feathers. After all, without them she wouldn't be able to fly.
At the sound of nearby hoof-fall, the mare stiffened a bit and immediately quit what she was doing. She looked about warily, shuffling uneasily in place. Was the approaching stranger a threat? Should she fly away before they got too close? Against her better judgement, she decided to stay put for the time being. Perhaps someone was merely passing by...

Tanner emerged onto the field, he spotted a female winged kirin nearby who was looking straight at him. "Oh, she's very pretty," he thought.
He put on a wide smile and made his way over to her, moving slowly so as not to startle her. A few feet away, he cleared his throat. "Hello there. Please don't be scared or anything. I just merely wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Tanner. Who might you be?"
He hoped he wasn't being too forward with her, and that his direct approach wouldn't scare her off. He almost held his breath as he waited for her reply.

Chococo stayed rooted to the spot as the strange stallion approached her. Part of her wanted to back away, but as he seemed to be taking extra care not to scare her, she stayed put. "My name is Chococo," she answered somewhat shyly, not looking Tanner straight on. "It's nice to meet you." The mare couldn't help being somewhat awestruck at the stranger's colorations. His coat and scales both held such deep, rich shades of brown, and the lighter caramel patches complimented it all quite nicely. Overall, he was certainly pleasant on the eyes. "Do you, um, travel alone?"

He smiled at her, but with sad eyes, he replied, "I like your name, Chococo. It sounds very nice. And I do travel alone, unfortunately. I have a lonely life, but I won't trouble you with that. What brings you here? I heard your landing, and made my way over."
He paused and took this moment to look her over more closely. He admired her wings and the rich variety of browns that ran throughout her coat. "Do you like to fly?" he added, almost hesistantly. He hadn't met an Aririn before, and tried to imagine what it would be like to soar through the skies and clouds.

"Yes, very much so," she replied with a small smile. "Which is related to why I am here. I've been flying for a while now and needed a small break." It saddened her just a bit that such a handsome stallion was wandering the woods by himself. It just didn't seem right somehow. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but, um, what happened to your family?" Had they been separated perhaps?

"It would be wonderful to fly. The great Goddess has blessed you with flight."
Tanner gave a small smile to her question. "I have no family. I've never had a family. I hatched from my egg alone in the world. It was a hard life, but one day I happened to stumble upon another orphaned foal, and we've been friends ever since. But lately, we've gone our seperate ways, to find our own place in this world. As I mentioned before, it is a lonely place, ... so far ..."
He nodded towards her. "What about you? Do you have a family?"

"Ah, I am so sorry," she said after he had finished his tale. It saddened her greatly to think that any parent could possibly abandon an egg in the woods. "Yes, I have a family. We live in the forest near the beach. All of us are Airin except for my father." Chococo smiled sheepishly at this. "I suppose I have been quite fortunate in many ways."

He nodded at her thoughts of sympathy. "Thank you, but do not fret, for I have learned many things being on my own. For instance, I am able to take care of myself in a fight, if need be. And I'm very adept at finding food and making shelter."
Tanner thought of the beach she had mentioned. It had been quite a while since he'd visited the beach. Perhaps he would do so again...and perhaps it would be soon.
"Near the beach you say? That must be nice. I remember visiting a few times, but the salty air burns my nose. A friend of mine lives near the beach as well. And how does your father feel about being grounded? Surely he wishes to join you and your kin in flight?"

Chococo smiled softly at his inquiry about her father. "Apparently not. I often wonder that myself, but he claims that he is quite happy with ground life." The mare found his mention of the salty air burning his nose to be rather interesting. Such a thing had never bothered her, but then again perhaps that was only because she had grown up around it. "You have a friend on the beach? What is their name?" The mare hadn't ever before seen any other Kirin around the beach, but then again the shoreline was quite large.

"Yes, her name is Aphrodite. Perhaps you have seen her before? She's a high-spirited mare, with coloring not very much unlike your own, but without wings, and a long, braided mane that touches the ground. She holds herself in high esteem, and values her beauty in her hair. But enough about her." Tanner smiled at her. "So, where were you headed when you stopped for a rest? If you don't mind me asking." He always tried to be polite when speaking to a female.

"No, I don't believe that I've seen her before," Chococo said apologtically, "but I shall certainly have to keep an eye out for her. I wasn't actually headed for any place in particular really. Sometimes I just like to go wherever the wind takes me." The mare smiled sheepishly after this admition. "You might find that strange, but it's relaxing for me."

"Perhaps that is a good thing then." he chuckled."She isn't the easiest kirin to get along with, nor tolerate."
He imagined himself able to soar through the clouds, perhaps even alongside her. "That's rather fascinating really. How does flight relax you? Aren't you ever afraid of falling? I myself love to feel the wind in my mane as I run, but up there it must be an even more exilerating experience."
Tanner looked up and noticed the sun was just overheard, indicating that it was midday. He wondered how long this mare would endulge him with her company. "I hope you don't find me rude, but are you due anywhere soon? I am enjoying your company very much, but wouldn't want to keep you."

Chococo couldn't help but giggle a little at Tanner's first question. "Falling? Well, I was a little when I first started, but now it's just as natural to me as walking or running," she said with a light smile. The mare followed his gaze upward after he asked if she was due anywhere. "Not really, no. So long as I'm home by nightfall I should be fine." Not that her parents had a problem with her staying out late or anything, but she hadn't exactly warned them ahead of time, and she somehow had the feeling that her older brother Jiyuu would set out on a search for her once he was worried enough (which didn't generally take very long. He was extremely protective of them, which she appreciated). "Um, is there perhaps a stream around here?" she asked shyly, suddenly realizing how thirsty she was.
