So I'm in the process of choosing which Marimba solo I want to begin working on for this year's Solo and Ensemble. Currently, the tie goes: Dream of the Cherry Blossoms - Keiko Abe Polaris - Mark Ford Ransom - Mark Ford
I'm not leaning so much towards Polaris as I am the other two, possibly because I haven't heard a proper recording yet. Last year, as a freshman, I performed Rain Dance by Alice Gomez, made it to state, and got top score at state. So I'm trying to get a bit more of a challenge going on for me as a sophomore.
Any input?

those sound good but if you can master mortal kombat perfectly with multiple mallets that be pretty cool and surprise them with it you should get pretty good scores
but if not Ransom is pretty good, I think it sounds better than the other two and by how tis played it should get better scores.

I've never heard any of those (and frankly stopped doing percussion solos after freshman year in favor of piano) but if I were you, I would go for the one that you think is managable in the time allotted without it being too easy. Also, if you enjoy the piece that will make practice that much easier smile

You should do the Keiko Abe piece. Those are all beautiful.
