Now I'm not the kind of person to enter details in unsolicited emails from random members, nor am I stupid enough to sign up to any supposed "hack" websites... But I can't help thinking that even the most careful of users can and do get hacked on here.
I've already invested what i consider to be a reasonable amount of RL money into gaia... So I was just wondering how likely it is that I will be hacked at some point in the future.
If it really is a problem, then I think I may just stop while I'm ahead and enjoy what I have now without risking anything further.
Any advice and/or experiences welcome smile

Some users send you PM's about getting extra gold or using their gold generator. When you click the link, they send you to some fake Gaia sign in page that looks almost real. They got my b/f with this one and he's a little too old to be falling for stupid things like that. If you get something like this, just think to yourself how many times have you really been signed out of Gaia without clicking the logout link yourself.

Simple way to avoid getting hacked. Never ever enter your password into anything.
One time there was a pop up that would say something along the lines of "you're loading pages too fast, enter you password to ensure you aren't a bot" Looked real, but yep, anything like that is a scam. Later someone was warning people about it saying that they lost their main account because of it.
I've also seen someone with a "glowing" tank that asked for you password before you could play. Another scam.
Also, if you're really worried, you could try changing your password every week. That's what a friend of mine had to do one summer when she felt that people were continuously trying to hack her account.

Pretty much what they said. Just be cautious and make sure your password isn't easy to guess. 3nodding

First youre using the wrong term when you say "hack"
The term youre looking for is phishing which is when someone fishes for sensitive information such as login passwords an account names but as long as you have your account information handy you should be able to talk to gaia and get your account back. However if your items are lost you can't get those back.
What everyone said is accurate about protecing yourself Don't give out your password Don't type it into anything none Gaia Don't download anything that will ask for your password Don't click on anything that will take you out of Gaia then ask for your password Remember Gaia will not ask you for your password(no matter what)
But no matter how careful you are there is always a chance to have your account stolen, but first you have to be a target so don't make yourself a target and keep a low profile.

So technically speaking, there's no way for a person to hack your account information??
Other than if you enter your details or hint towards your details either by phishing emails, or whatever... there's no way for your account to be comprimised??
It's just I remember reading a thread somewhere about someone getting their account hacked, who was 110% sure they'd never fallen for any phishing attempts etc.

You can have your info stolen if you are on an unsecured connection like WiFi and public access points but like I said you have to make yourself a target to be targeted

She's an 03'er with a few items worth billions now. It's natural that people would want to try to hack her I guess sweatdrop but she hasn't been hacked yet so it's good. Another one of my friends got her account hacked though, she was so upset she flat out quit gaia altogether sad

I've had alot of attempts on mine too but the truth is I didn't use Gaia when I got my account so when I came back I had nothing and started from scratch and now I still have nothing but the clothes on my back.

hackers are jerks....and think they can get your info with stupid pm's....half the time its obvious....oh and when the ones you click and say "you've logged out....blah blah blah" and ask for you to sign back in....one easy way to tell is to look at the site name in the address bar...it wont say that its gaiaonline.com....it'll say some other crap....i've gotten those before and almost fell for it before i reminded myself to check the address bar
