Love is the answer
At least for most of the questions in my heart,

Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?

This is a private roleplay between Nakanadi and Seamus, continued from an AIM roleplay we started that I forgot to save.

User ImageAll things considered, the day hadn't been that bad. Yes, she had wandered aimlessly for a bit, wasted the early hours wandering, as she was prone to do. True, she had almost been ready to turn around and go another direction, feeling that walking too far in the same direction was a bit pointless. However, she hadn't turned around, and something had rewarded her persistence with a chance meeting.

Or was it? Clearly, Seamus remembered her from years past. An impressive feat, she'd thought, since her memory wasn't that precise. It pleased the little mare a bit, that she may have left that much of an impression on another. Or, rather, her stripey tail.

Eyebrows raised at a rotting pear, Nakanadi flicked her hoof toward it once, twice, until she managed to connect, sending it on its way. She didn't know how precise the stallion was in his conquest to eat all there was to be seen, and while she did trust his judgment, she didn't want to risk allowing him to eat a rotten fruit. Watching it go its way, knocking into another pear with a sickly 'thud', she grinned cheesily at her companion, tail swishing happily.

"... bad fruit," she mumbled through her teeth, trying not to look incredibly goofy. It was refreshing, really, the way she could worry less about appearances and more about whether or not she was about to bite into a worm. The important things. He didn't seem to give a hoot whether or not her mane was perfectly in place, or that she grinned wider than most mares.

Ears pricked forward, she gazed upward at a rather thick bundle of pears, grown together in a bit of a cozy pack near the top. Raising a brow, she slowly brought her head down to peer at Seamus.

"How would you like to help me again?" she asked, gesturing upward with her nose. As if to demonstrate her need for assistance, she immediately brought herself up to her hind legs, biting wildly at the very-out-of-reach branch. To no avail.

Hooves once again hitting the ground, she shook her head quickly, causing her bangs to fall out of her face. "Ah, the trouble with being short. I really do envy you sometimes, Seamus."

Seamus snorted. "At least you don't have the problem where you smack straight into low-hanging branches. Done that more times than I'd like to admit." Frankly, though, it was quite lovely to feel useful.

Nakanadi, now she was something. Rarely did he run across someone quite so...how could he put it? Friendly seemed inadequate. She was pleasant like a good piece of fruit was pleasant--sweet with a little bit of zing, and so rejuvenating after many days of the same thing over and over again. He found himself grinning all the time, and he was pretty sure he looked like an idiot.

"Now, which branch?" He asked, looking up. Ah, there it was--a cluster of pears in the gloom of a patch of leaves. They did look pretty appetizing!

He stood up on his hind legs, front hooves pinwheeling as he tried to find his balance. He snapped in vain at the branch--it was quite high. Just as he was starting to fear that he was facing an impossible task and looking the fool while trying, Seamus felt his teeth close over bark. He thudded back to all fours, the branch firmly held.

"Kin yuh reagh?" he asked, mouth full of wood.

Delighted, she laughed, a quick snort. Her brow bent in embarrassment before she brushed it off, shaking her head quickly. "That... that IS terrible."

Peering upward, she couldn't help but wonder what Seamus' world was like. It must have been nice, to be able to reach high places without the assistance of others. Yet, the consequences were also something to be taken into consideration. A warm smile crossed her features when he rose up to grab at the branch.

When teeth hit bark, she winced immediately, her own teeth resonating with an empathy pain. It couldn't have felt good, but she had no time to lose. Springing onto her hind legs, Nakanadi began to leap at the branch, bringing pears down any way possible - with her teeth, by smacking at them with her nose - and was absolutely certain they both looked ridiculous.

It didn't matter, because their efforts were rewarded with a steady rain of pears. They hit the ground in thuds, and when she was done, she immediately backed up a bit and grinned widely.

"Many thanks for your assistance, Seamus! And I'm sorry about making you do that. You can stop now, and help yourself to some pears."

"Sdop? Why 'uld I sdop? Id's terrby com--com...gah..." With a shake of his head, Seamus released the branch. "Gah. As I was saying, terribly comfortable. Good workout for the old jaws. Pleasant woody aftertaste." His tongue flicked across his teeth. "Okay, that was a lie. That was awful." He laughed, embarrassed, and hoped his dark coat hid his blush. He'd performed similar tricks before in his search for the freshest harvest, but having Nakanadi there had made him wanna showboat. And showboating had, unfortunately, cause him to talk, which had, in turn, meant his tongue had frequent and extended contact with the bitter bark. He quickly ducked down and snagged a pear, letting the crisp, sweet juice wash away the taste.

"And don't be sorry!" he said, separating out another pear. "Pretty sure I had the easy part. I just had to stand there and hold something. You were the one with the acrobatics. You were all woosh"--he reared--"fwaa, hwaa, phwish-ow!" Momentarily forgetting that he was a huge dork, Seamus did a little jig, pawing at the air with his front hooves in an approximation of what he'd seen Nakanadi do. He thundered back down and grinned. "They were trembling on their stems, I guarantee it."

After a brief moment's thought, he added sheepishly, "Although the sound effects might've only been in my head."

A light, somewhat strained laugh escaped her as she struggled to keep up with Seamus. He really, truly was one-of-a-kind, willing to make a grand show, even if it meant looking a bit silly in the end. She couldn't help but be reminded of her foalhood, the type of childhood she'd wished she'd had. A carefree one. "You are terrible," she said through a stifled giggle, shaking her head.

A wide grin once again found itself on her face, and she wondered vaguely when the last time was that she'd been able to smile so much. "Oh, no, your re-enactment was spot-on, my friend," she praised, dipping her head and nudging a pair. She followed her compliment with an attempt to balance the pear on her nose, dissolving into embarrassed giggles when she sorely failed.

"I envy you, Seamus. You have no trouble being such a pleasing fellow, you can put on a show with no trouble." She bowed her head a bit, smiling into the face of a pear.

"I wish I were more outgoing, like you. Maybe if I had been more assertive, I could have demanded more from the others around me. Oh -" She frowned slightly, then smiled again. "Forgive me, going off like that. It's just, seeing you so carefree and comfortable with yourself, I only wish I had been able to spend time with you sooner."
