Memories from the day before were still ingrained in his mind. Kairav had been mulling over it for some time and had finally worked up the courage to get advice from his mother. As much as loved his dad, he felt that this was something that his mother would be a better parent to ask about.
It was all about Jesenya. He had seen his friend grow up into a gorgeous lioness. And lately he has been better these weird feelings stir inside of him everytime he is with her. The more time he spends with her, the more these feelings make his face fill hot. It was during the conversation with his mom that he realized he had feelings for his best friend. But, he didn't want to ruin the friendship they had since the two families were very close. Even so, he had to take his mother's advice and tell Jesenya his feelings.
Nervousness bubbled in him as he went towards the shoreline, to their normal spot where the two always meet.

Ever since she had completed her rites of passage, Jesenya couldn't help but notice the slight and subtle changes that went on around her. Not only was she able to do more things within the pride, but the more time she spent with her best friend, the more her mother's eyes twinkled in that way that made her uneasy. What had her mother off for hours on end spending time with her best friend's mother? It could only mean one thing, and that thing made her very, very nervous.
Her mother was plotting something...meddling in her life, if she could. But even though it could just be her overthinking everything, it didn't help stop the flutter in her stomach whenever she woke up to dreams about a certain someone. What did it mean? She was no seer and had no prescience of the future, but it had to mean something! The more she thought about it, the more she started to feel overwhelmed.
She shook her head to let the thoughts drift back towards the edges of her mind as she waited in her usual spot for her best friend to appear.
Once he had gotten closer to the shoreline a figure appeared. The corners of his mouth started to curl upwards into a smile that spread from one ear to the other. It would be an understatement to say he was happy to see his friend. He was thrilled! She blended in so nicely with the sand, as if she belonged there! Just like himself, he thought quietly to himself.
She hadn't noticed that he was heading her way and he took this time to sneak up beside her. As he came next to her, he greeted her, "Hey Jesenya!"
Surprised to hear his voice, she was shaken back to reality by his presence. With a soft smile on her features she greeted him back, "Hi Kairav! How are you doing? Is your mother keeping all your younger siblings in line?" She laughed softly at the latter part, knowing first hand just how much energy the little cubs had.
"Today turned out to be such a good day, I found a nice shell earlier this morning that I brought back for my mom. It had no cracks or holes in it, it was just about perfect." She told him.

With a sweeping gaze over to the ocean it returned back towards his best friend, "Mother's always busy keeping the little ones in line. They are such a paw-full but they could be worse. For the most part, they listen fairly well," He paused briefly, "How is your mother doing? I think my father said something that he saw your sister not too long ago. I didn't know you had other family here besides your mom." He wasn't prying, but merely curious.
At her latter comment he nodded, "The waves are rather calm today, means there are no storms coming up right now at the very least. But that is surprising! It is always a rare treasure to find a shell almost completely intact like that. Most of them come on to the shore broken or chipped." He nodded mutely.
While she listened to her best friend speak, she giggled softly at his reply. "I can just image! But they look up to you so much, especially your little sister Kiburi! I'm surprised she isn't part of your shadow!" She teased him playfully, completely attached to Kairav's family as much as her own. They were almost like her second family, that's how close they have gotten.
And then she turned to nod her head slightly, "Oh yea, Feana followed us some time after she left. I didn't even know that she was coming too as Mom only said that I was the one going. It was a surprise, but more of a surprise to find out she had a mate and is pregnant. I can assure you that did not go over with my Mom very well. She was very displeased because Feana was still too young to even be thinking of such things!" Her eyes were slightly downcast, "I felt sorry for her, but she wasn't very interested in talking to me. I fear she might not want to talk to me or see me because of what Mom said to her." Her voice was slightly sad as she thought about the slight row her mother and sister had.
His eyes widen slightly at the new information. He did not pick up at all that her sister was expecting! That was a surprise. And then when she spoke so sadly of it, he touched his nose to her cheek. "Cheer up. I'm sure your mom was just upset at the situation your sister got herself into, just wanting the best for her cubs. All mothers are like that, don't want to see us off till we're good and well into adulthood and can fend for ourselves."
And then he smiled gently, "I wouldn't worry too much about your sister. It could very well have been her hormones kicking in at that time when she talked with you. I would know, with my mom's latest litter, there were times were she got a bit snippish but it wasn't that she meant it or anything like that, it was just that she was going through something in her life that she had no control over. And besides! I'm sure your mom is excited about the upcoming cubs! She loves cubs just as much as my mother." He laughed softly at the comparison, "One day, you'll understand your mother just like I might understand mine someday."

What he was saying rang true to her as she nodded in acceptance. "I shall just have to talk to her once her cubs are born, so that way we have no hard feelings between us." That was the last thing she wanted, was to not get along with any of her siblings.
Although Kairav's final remark made her stomach flutter a bit as she looked at him. Would she have a family one day? She surely did hope so, to see little cubs wander all around, that would be a nice sight. Therefore her curiosity got the better of her as she asked, "Do you think that you'll have a family someday? I'm sure you'll make a great dad! Just make sure to let me visit your little ones!"

Her question caught him offguard and he began to wonder if he was indeed that easy to read? Or perhaps his best friend's inquiry was just purely innocent. Regardless of the intentions he paused to think of what he felt before he answered.
His gaze shifted towards the ocean as he replied, "I would love to have a family someday. The idea of little cubs running around, from my own flesh and blood makes me feel so many different emotions that I can't even begin to descibe it," He looked back at her, "I've asked my mother many times what she felt when she knew she was pregnant with us, but she had a hard time describing all the emotions she went through. But the one that topped it off was joy. She said there is nothing else in the world than to see your legacy live on in the lives of your cubs."
His response was so poetic, and she paused at herself for thinking such a thing. Was she expecting anything less? Perhaps she was expecting more from his answer and it scared her to think such dangerous thoughts about her best friend. Her ears flicked as she shyly stole a glance at him while he was looking towards the ocean.
"I can't imagine what that would be like, but I would like to experience it one day. Of course, I'm always afraid that I might not be a good enough mother, but I'm sure a lot of parents go through that fear. I know my mom did! Especially since I saw my dad every now and then when he came to visit us."
A soft sigh escaped her, "What it would be like to grow up in a family that was held together by love..."
His heart skipped a beat as he could feel his face start to heat up. Was it wrong of him to think of what his cubs would be like with his best friend? It was hard to surpress such feelings, but what if his feelings weren't mutual? It'd pain him to know that his feelings could ruin his relationship with his best friend. But he needed to know how she felt! The need was burning inside of him.
He shifted slightly towards her as he shyly started up, "What if you could have that wish come true?"

She had noticed his presence shifted closer to her but she thought nothing of it. Why should she? She didn't think there was anything behind his actions, or at least she didn't think so, even if a small part of her wanted to think that.
His question took her by surprise as her eyes widen slightly with an audible gasp. What was he getting at? She had no idea and it was starting to put thoughts in her mind that she didn't think she needed to be thinking at this very moment!
"It is always a pleasant feeling to have a wish come true, although in this case, I fear it might be some time before that happens. But I don't mind the wait. Good things come to those who wait, right?" Who was she kidding?!
He listened quietly to her answer as his feelings started to gnaw at the back of his mind. It came to the point to where he had to know! He had to know what she felt, if his feelings for her were mutual or not. Because he didn't think that there was any other female he'd feel this towards and respect as much as he does Jesenya.
"What if...What if I could help make that dream come true, Jesenya?" He asked shyly, unsure of the best way to phrase the question he was burning to ask. It would be a lie to say that his heart wasn't in his throat and his breathe was being held at what her answer would be. He was anything but calm.
Did she just hear him right? Did he just ask her if she wanted to have a family with him? Did he have feelings for her, too? Oh dear! She didn't know what to say! Her voice had totally abandoned her at such a crucial time like that. She knew her face was bright red at all the thoughts that were going through her head at the moment. What was she to do? If she didn't say something quick, she might give Kairav the wrong idea.
Did that mean he liked her? Wanted to become mates? Was this all just a dream? She had no idea!

Her silence was making his hopes drop. He shouldn't of said anything! How could he be so naive. What must she think of him now, he could only wonder.
"Please, forget I said anything. I just had to get it out there and see what you felt because I couldn't stand not knowing --" He was cut off when she interupted him.
She shook her head at him before she interupted him, "Don't say that, please! You took me by surprise. I had no idea that these feelings inside of me would be the same ones that you're feeling for me. How silly I must be!" A smile broke out across her features.
"I didn't mean to startle you by the silence, but I was speechless. I felt like I was in a dream because I didn't think I'd ever have this happen!" Her voice grew stronger with courage that she wouldn't say anything bad to turn him away. He had been there since the very beginning and he meant so much to her.
Gathering her courage, she rested her body against his own and looked up at him. "I would very much accept your offer Kairav. I wouldn't want to be with any other lion but you."
Just as he thought his spirits were going crash she spoke! And it was the exact opposite of what he thought she would say! She had feelings for him just as he did with her! Oh, he didn't think his day could get any better. It was shaping up to be one of the best days of his life. And it could only get better from here!
As she leaned in against him, his heart swelled as she spoke. She accepted his invitation! His face lit up as he bent his head down to nuzzle her affectionate. Would he get to do this every day now? He sure did hope so! "I am so happy!" There was no word to descibe what he was feeling right now, and he didn't think he could even try.

Enjoying this time to the fullest, she parted from Kairav before her tail flicked slightly, "I think we should tell our parents before they think something else might be up! I'm sure they'll be so happy to hear the news! Although I kind of have a feeling that my mom and your mom had already planned for this to happen." She laughed softly.
Her paws pushed herself up as she glanced back at him, waiting for him to come to her side before the pair went off to go tell the news to their respective families.
