Okay, so well all know about some of the basic strategies for defending our control points when the enemy is formulating a plan to take the point, right? Well, I came up with an idea for how to perfectly protect the last control point on the Gold Rush map.
Minimum required players
1 Engineer 2 Heavies 1-4 Pyros 1-2 Medics
Other classes can act as battlers on the field while the point is defended.
1) Okay, so you set up a sentry in the corner by which people will run through the hole that leads to the control point for obvious defense reasons.
2)Then you set up a dispenser on the point.
3)Now you put the Heavies on the Point and have them continuously firing their guns in different directions to key points where people would come through (Sasha recommended). The dispenser will provide endless ammunition.
4) Now the Pyros have two purposes. Their main job is spy checking. A spy can ruin this strategy completely so having a barrage of fire everywhere will prevent a spy from getting through this defense easily. Their next purpose is for ubers. they will defend through compression blasts against an incoming uber that is trying to come in and blow apart the defense.
5) The medics are invaluable as well. They can help give extra healing to Heavies while they are endlessly spraying away thanks to the dispensers. They can also help charge up an uber for the pyros to counter an opposing uber that is coming to the point so that it is a tie in ubers.
I've never seen this defense done before but if someone did play Gold Rush this way I can't see many flaws. So long as everyone did their job the game would be theirs.
This isn't even the only map you could do this on. There are a few other corner control points this might work on as well.
Let me know what you think. smile

Although this seems like a pretty good idea (and it is). There's lots of things that can smite it pretty easily, a sniper for instance, and even if there are pyros, a spy can still get through their pretty well. I've seen a lot of people use this strat, sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.

It's not full-proof of course, but even a sniper would have trouble if Pyros are running around the place constantly flamethrowing the area.
More engineers with Dispensers placed here and there would make it easier for Pyros to abuse their primary weapon.
A good Demoman would eventually destroy the sentries and possibly the Heavies with good timing, but that means really good timing.
The Heavies are constantly spraying toward the entrances to the control point. Unless an engineer thinks quick and figures out the strategy and works out a position where he can teleport his teammates and provide dispenser support as well, the game would go for a long time in the defending team's favor.
