It's a yaoi fangirl thing more than anything else. XD I think that whole pairing was born from their whole "Mommy/Daddy" name calling, and just from the moments shown in Episode 24.

Actually, I read a very interesting character analysis once
for Kyouya where the writer was trying to prove that his
character was actually gay and in love with Tamaki.
The author used it to explain some of Kyouya's issues with his father
and also why he goes along with all the stuff in the host club
including showing kindness in places he normally wouldn't
It was sort of convincing actually....
Though I still don't really buy that Kyouya's gay.
I'm just saying it's a possibility.
But Tamaki's defiantly not gay.
He's got mommy issues that have given him a
skewed view of female perfection sure,
but certainly not gay.

I think it's pretty clear that the manga will lead to Haruhi and Tamaki being together.
Of course, I will admit to emitting quite loud fan girl squeals over anything Tamaki x Kyouya.
And I have never considered myself a yaoi fan.
(As in, a fan of absurd homosexual pairings that you know wouldn't happen but people write fics about it anyway because they think it's HAWT. Like Harry x Draco; or Inuyasha x Sesshomaru.
I have no problem with homosexual relationships that develop naturally with the real story line.)
But that's not the case with these two.
I think if Haruhi had never come along and the characters were allowed to develop that way, Kyouya and Tamaki had a very probable shot at a relationship.
Just something about their character's that complement each other so perfectly.
And obviously the author has no problem with characters that have "homosexual tendencies."
*points at Kaoru and Hikaru*
...and homosexual tendencies is least taboo thing going on there.
But back to Tamaki and Kyouya.
IF they were gay or bi, I think they would make an adorable couple.
And I have thought this since the beginning...especially since Tamaki immediately jumped to a father/daughter relationship when he met Haruhi, and Kyouya was naturally 'Mother.'
However, since Haruhi is in the picture, and Tamaki's character developed to be straight (because I mean HONESTLY, it was up in the air for a bit at the beginning...I mean, he was totally flirting with Haruhi when he still thought she was a guy, for christ's sake. You cannot deny the questionable sexuality of the Host King...) and with recent events in the manga being as they are...I'd say the TamaxHaru relationship is inevitable.
And I'm quite certain Kyouya is either bi and A) hasn't found the one yet, B) the one is obviously taken/not interested (yes, you know what I'm getting at with that...) or C) too concerned with appearances to act on it/admit it to himself...
OR...he's asexual and isn't attracted to anything really. Which makes a lot of sense as he's mostly out for himself.
The exception to the latter theory being how he puts up with Tamaki's crazy s**t for no apparent reason.
THUS BRINGING ME TO THE CONCLUSION....that the former theory is true with a combination of option B and option C.
AND THAT IS MY TAKE ON THIS TOPIC.

If there was even a slight chance of a relationship there
It would have happened in the year before they met Haruhi.
And your right, Tamaki was flirting with Haruhi when she was a guy
But the other hosts commented on how strange that was for him
Out of character even (at least in the manga they commented)
And they chalked it up in the end to Tamaki’s host instincts
That his subconscious mind knew she was a girl
So I think all that tells us is that Tamaki wouldn’t
Reject being gay if he found himself suddenly attracted to a guy
He’s certainly confused by Lesbians though as the Lobedia issues show us XD
Kyouya I’m less sure on.
I can see him being bi, though for some reason it’s not an option I gravitate too
As for A
I think only Tamaki in the ‘comic’ has found the ‘one’ if such a thing exists.
As for B
I agree totally. It’s the nature of the genera that all the boys are in love with Haruhi
To some existent. That’s the whole point of
Male harem manga.
Lots of boys love one girl she has to choose.
So I think all the characters are meant to be in love with Haruhi to a certain extent.
As for being asexual!

Yes I could see this one too.
Even more than him being gay or bi to be honest.
He certainly could be emotionally damaged enough from his relationship
With his father to find any outward affection for someone as difficult nay impossible
But he’s coming along (Slowly learning to trust and care for people)
If he is asexual NOW I doubt he’ll remain so his whole life
But I hadn’t really thought of that. Good idea.

Yeah, I think he definitely started out asexual/currently is and will turn out bi or gay.
Like you said, he is slowly learning to trust again...and that's mainly because of Tamaki, which leads me to believe he will easily develop/already has romantic feelings for the boy...albeit, probably subconsciously.
But since he is so concerned with public appearances, its still completely up in the air as to whether or not Kyouya's sexuality will ever actually be revealed.
If it is, I believe it'll be one of those moments at the end of the manga where he's where no one else hears/notices and sees Tamaki and Haruhi happily together or some such and has a moment of inward reflection...much like, *sigh* "What could have been..." only much less sappy and more along the lines of something Kyouya would actually say. xD

I don't think he'll be out of the closet any time soon.
I mean if his father found out pretty much
their would go any shoot he had at owning the company
Mr. Ootori strikes me as pretty strict traditional.
If he ever did come out, it'd be after he had all the
companies papers signed over to him.
Then he could be like "HA! Gotcha! NO heirs 4 u!!!111" except he'd never say that.
I like the idea of his sexuality being revealed that way though
If he is gay. Which I still think he isn't.
But if it happens; when you read it you can be all like:
"Haha Jade! I was right! You were wrong! PWNed"
and somewhere in Virgina I'll be like
"Damn it, she won XP!"

Ok so here's a question
Totally off topic mind you....
(If you didn't think Kyouya was gay)
do you like KyoxHaru?
Personally I hate it.
I mean I think it makes sense in theory
as in they'd be good together for a while
but I think long run that would crash and burn soo badly.
A.) I think Kyouya DOSE care about image and dating/marrying a commoner is sort of out of the question
B.) Practically (and we all know Kyouya is that) he needs a mate with intimate knowledge of his social class. So she can help him to some extent on his path toward... whatever he's after. It seems world domination some days.
C.) Kyouya's character has such bite, heck he comes off downright evil at times (which is one of the more awesome part of his character.) I just think he needs a mate..... with more bite as well. Spunk or something. Haruhi falls a little flat there.
D.) Kyouya's pretty severally emotionally damaged... at least that's my interpretation. He's not going to be an easy guy to be in a relationship with. Haruhi is a no crap taking kind of girl.... I just don't see her putting up with the emotion bull s**t very long.
Do I think they have chemistry together? Sure, we all read the beach house issue
Do I think they have things in common? Of course, ambition, smarts and solid heads on their shoulders
Do I think these alone make them a good match?
Not really at least not for long term.

I think if there's anything at all there, it'd be a tiny crush on Kyouya's part just because she's only girl he's ever gotten semi-close to.
(This is if he's not gay or bi like I think he is.)
But yeah, that relationship is not even gonna start.
Because, obviously, Haruhi doesn't think of him that way at all, and Kyouya wouldn't pursue it because of all the reasons you listed above.
HOWEVER. [spoileralert] At the end of the anime, Kyouya's father clearly approves of her.[/endspoiler]
So, if his father pushed it for any reason, I think he'd go for it, because he does pretty much whatever his father wants him to.
I don't want to say this for sure because I'd like to think he has some morals deep down and would refuse a request from Mr. Ootori if it was in direct violation of them, but you never can tell.
But yeah, I don't really think he'd go for Haruhi at all, and vice versa.
