I'm looking for some advice on a few things. I'm having some serious problems creating poses myself. I've been teaching myself so far, but I haven't been able to grasp how poses are done. Using the correct anatomy. After I get the pose down, I can go from there, creating the outfit, or whatever I'm making (most of the time that is). I can create headshots and bust shots with no problems really.

I'm more or less a visual artist, and need tons of references for things. I don't have a bunch of magazines that I can use for poses. But, I'd prefer to learn them, and not have to resort to using bases from deviantart.

Also, I'm looking for someone who can help me with cell shading, or give me a few pointers, using a program similar or exactly to Photoshop Elements 6.0 (as shown in my tutorials. I learned how to shade in a different way. I believe it's called soft shading. It's relatively easy. I use the dodge and burn tools.

If you want to check out my deviantart, then click here.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated :3

One of my art teachers suggested using well-proportioned stick figures to get a feel for a pose, and then flesh it out after the pose has been established.

A site to fall in love with: http://posemaniacs.com/
If you're feeling uninspired, it has some exercises as well as resources for those who know what they're looking for.
For shading, there's plenty of tutorials on the web, including the ones stickied here at our guild homefront.

You might want to post specific examples for people to focus on here, and browse through the Mentor subforum for people who meet some or all of your criteria.

What helped me with my poses were buying comics/ manga and looking for interesting poses. Or better yet, i browse on photobucket for any interesting pictures.

But as for Comic/ manga, here are some examples of my references for poses:

Action poses: Rurouni Kenshin manga novels. They have great action poses
Ex: http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq49/p1casso123/IMG_2669resized.jpg

Showy/action posing: any type of comics, like DC, Marvel etc. They also are very helpful in anatomy and musculature. One of my fav artists to look to when drawing women is Michael Turner

Romantic Poses: These are hard because the two characters you are drawing have to interact, but i like to refer to a book called Manga Mania Shoujo by Christopher Hart. You can find this book at Hastings along with many other volumes cover fantasy, action, villans and chibi.

Just try some research, either at the bookstore, comic store, or online
