The long wild grass of the plains swirled in a flury of motion as strong wings from above beat gusts or air onto the ground. The blue-eyed stallion that owned the wings snorted letting himself down into the grass. It had been a good flight, and this looked like an interesting place as any to set down. That and the fact that he had seen a river nearby, and constant flight did make him thirsty. Nevertheless this area was new to him, and he decided it might be better to approach on foot rather than dive-bombing in as he usually might. Never knew when you might accidentally stray onto unwelcome territory.
With a shake of his tousled mane Akecheta started off at a trot to where he had seen the river, all the while glancing curiously around him. He had flown a ways from the place he had called home, and this was much farther from the mountains than he had been before. Still it had seemed, like it always did, a good time for an adventure. After all, he figured he best travel and explore as much as he could well he had strong wings, no use putting good things to waste! And who knows, he might even come across some interesting strangers, something he always enjoyed. As long as they were friendly that is. He had certainly encountered some in the past who had been less than such, but he never really let those types get to them. He just felt sorry that they were so irate and couldn't enjoy their lives like he did.
Giving a small satisfied nod to himself he slowed as he reached the creek, not seeing anyone else there and bent his head for a drink. He supposed he could have just gone splashing in. Would have been a lot more fun, but hindsight was 20/20 they always said. And he could find something even more exciting to do later, if he felt like it.

Today was a perfect day for flying. Well, gliding to be exact. Flying required energy which in turn would only heat up his body more. Just gliding along the wind with the occasionaly flap of his wings let the breeze keep him cool. His black-as-midnight coat didn't much care for the sun so flying was one of the few things he could do that he liked to do that kept him cool. Maybe he'd go for a swim. Swimming was fun but made him feel too much like a bird sometimes when he fluttered his wings in the water. Ah well, if he had to look like a bird to cool off, he'd take it.
Gliding down lower to the ground he followed a small stream down until it widened into more of a river. He spotted another figure at the bank of the river. Didn't look like a bad guy and company wouldn't hurt anyone. He flew over the other stallion and circled back to land in the cool running water of the river, walking upstream toward the red stallion. "Nice day. I assume you've been out flying as well. Perfect day for it." He dipped his head to the water and took a refreshing drink before dunking his head and flipping it back to send splattering water over his back. "Sucks getting the dark side of genes in this weather. I don't know how my non-winged family survives."

Akecheta's head raised as a gust of wind blew through his mane. He watched curiously as a black stallion with vibrant markings landed in the cool stream and took a drink. He looked like a friendly fellow, smart too, Ake was a guy that could respect a landing in water like that, he knew how hot it was days like this himself, must be even worse for a stallion that dark.
"Yes, it's a great day for flying! Perfect with the nice breeze up there too. I imagine especailly for you, a coat like that must get pretty hot," he said with a nod. He was lucky in the sense that he had not been born with a sun attracting coat. "But at least you've got good ideas," he grinned and splashed into the water like his counterpart, enjoying the cool spray of water as it soaked him up to his belly. Normally he didnt much like getting his wings wet, but on a day like today they would dry so quickly he let them hang where they would. Not to mention the water felt pretty nice on his sun warmed feathers too. After all on hot days he needed a good way to cool down, and though his flights did do a nice job with a breeze, nothing could quite compare to the mountain water that ran down these rivers, nice and chilled from the altitude, but low enough in the valley that the air itself was still hot.
"Im Akecheta," he said as he dunked his head briefly into the water and gave a shake of his mane.
