Hey, I need some ideas....I'm auditioning for two upcoming shows ("CATS" and "The Music Man,") and though they run one after another, the audition is at the same time (meaning if you want to do both, you only audition once. I'm going for Rumpelteazer, Demeter, or Jemima in CATS, and Marian in Music Man. Here's my dilemma....What the heck do I sing for an audition that shows that I could do either show?!? They're both soooo different musically! Help!

The Song Out of My Dreams from Oklahoma. The song goes with Marian. It shows off your range. If you don't want to do that song you could do Meadow Lark from the Baker's Wife, I guess.

I'd do "If I Loved You" from Carousel. It's a Rogers and Hammerstein, so it's an instant classic. Only problem is it's been done and overdone, so it's fairly common now. It's a good song though, and it shows off a very nice range.

Hmm..those are some I hadn't even considered! I'll listen to them and see if they'd be a good fit...thanks! Any suggestions for an upbeat, "CATS"-like song that might be good for Rumpelteazer, anyone?

Um...Mary Had a Little Lamb...just kidding (this is my sis that posted this topic, so I get to tease her!). "I Know" from Guys and Dolls wouldn't quite fit Marion, although it's close. And obviously there's always "Unexpected Song" from Song and Dance. Neither really fits Cats though.

I would do "As Long as He Needs Me" from Oliver, because it's a really strong song about love and all, and it requires the kind of strength needed for Cats but the voice candence for Music Man, if that makes any sense at all. sweatdrop 3nodding

Sing Domo Arigoto, Mr. Roboto, like I did last year for The Boyfriend.

Generally, Whistle Down The Wind is a good audition song for any kind of soprano.
I'm not sure about altos, though sweatdrop

Music man look at that era in music theatre and pick something of a simpliar feeling to prove you can sing in that manner and dont hold back on putting your heart into the song. Let the director beilive you are feeling whatever.
