"Birthday cake." Darsh said decisively to the woman behind the counter. "A scoop of birthday cake and a scoop of moose tracks." He grinned as she piled his waffle cone high with ice-cream.
It was one of those unbearably hot days where simply looking outside caused you to sweat. It was also one of those days where Darsh couldn't bear the thought of being confined at home. Especially since home didn't have air conditioning. So he'd begged a ride to the mall and hot-footed it directly over to Gus's Gastronomical Delights, which served the biggest variety of sugary treats anywhere.

A rather pudgy toddler walked towards the counter next, holding her big brother's hand as they walked. Sinny was taking Shiraz to the mall today since it was out of the house but still air conditioned. Presently, however, the bear girl was distracted from deciding on a treat by a rather familiar looking blue boy. "Darsh." she said, waving a paw.

Glancing over, Darsh gave the panda-girl a broad grin as he recognized her. He'd grown, but she hadn't and the blue-boy spared a short moment to wonder why that might be before calling back to her.
"Hiya, Shiraz! You come for ice-cream?"

The panda nodded, smiling. This made two of her friends she had seen her who were now bigger than her. Not that she really minded too much. Bouncing a bit on her toes, the girl glanced at his ice cream. "Wassat flav'r?"

"Birthday cake and moose tracks." Darsh licked the ice cream and grinned. "They'll give you free tastes of anything, did you know that?" He himself had, in fact, sampled about thirteen of the flavors before settling on two. "You must be hot." Darsh added, "all that fur and stuff. Does it bother you?"

"Doesn't look like a cake." Shiraz inquired, staring at the ice cream he held. That looked nothing like cake, that looked like ice cream. How could ice cream be a cake? And just how could one eat moose tracks? She was told tracks were the footprints an animal left in the ground.
His next question caught her attention once more. "Bother? Yes, does bother. Hot'n'tchy. Can't go nowheres outs'de." the panda grumbled, scratching her arms as if just thinking about the heat outside made her fur itch and sweat.

Feeling a definite amount of pity for the poor panda girl - Darsh didn't know what he'd do if he were confined indoors because of a fur problem - he offered her his ice-cream cone. "Wanna taste?" As he waited for an answer, he eyed her thoughtfully. "Wonder what would happen if you just shaved all your fur off? Then you wouldn't be so hot." It was one of those sounded-good-at-the-time suggestions. "I wonder if you're all black and white under the fur, too."

Shiraz had been about to taste when he suggested that. The idea made the toddler promptly look appalled. "noooo! S'my fur! Not right wit'out't. Had some pulled off once by bandid, hurt. Skin was weird for few days. All pink." the girl explained. It took her a few minutes to get her mind off of the horror that'd be life without her fur, so she could lean in to taste the ice cream. "S'good."

"Oh." Darsh was dissapointed to hear that she was pink under the fur. It would have been so much cooler if her skin were black and white too. Still, it wasn't her fault. "It's gonna be a long summer for you, then." He said, taking a lick off of his ice-cream.

Shiraz nodded. "We been goin to inside places 'lot. Nice'n'cool." the child agreed, idly scratching her arm as she looked up at the choices for ice cream.
"Whassa sherbert?" the female inquired after a bit, pointing up at a picture of something that was claimed to be an orange sherbet and cream mix.

"Dunno, I never had one." Darsh responded. "Hey, could we get a sample?" He asked the lady behind the counter, who scooped a tiny spoon into the orange sherbert and handed it to Darsh.
"Here, taste it and see if you like it." He said, in turn handing the spoon over to Shiraz.

The panda poked it for a few moments with the spoon, before finally taking a little, teensy bit onto it to taste. Putting it in her mouth, the toddler looked to be contemplating for a moment, before her eyes widened in shock. Oh WOW! This was gooood! And it smelled so nice!
"I like this." she said with a grin, offering Darsh a bit.

Obediently, the blue boy tasted and grinned. "It's very good." He licked his own ice cream contentedly. "You guys here just for ice-cream? Or are you shopping?"

Shiraz thought for a while before speaking. "Not shopping. Broowsin. Lookin at stuff and buyin if we like somethin." the girl explained with a nod, taking another bite of her treat. "We needed to get out of house and s'cool here so we came to look and get a treat."
"Why're you out?"
