Edited by Malorie Blackman, this book is something you should read, to learn about the African slave trade and how badly treated these people were at the time. Not only is it so brilliant that slavery has been abolished, but it is important to recognise history so that something horrific like this doesn't happen again, but similar things do still happen today. It really sticks in your mind, and it is a very interesting read. There were slave ships with rough, cramped conditions and images to illustrate this. There were 'farms' which slaves would be taken to, and forced to work long hours with bad treatment and no freedom whatsoever. One story in particular, about a mother and daughter trying to escape from one of these sites, but being hunted down by men and their savage dogs, was heartbreaking to read. Malorie Blackman is an amazing author herself, and she has selected these short stories and poems carefully and included a lot.
I would rate this 5/5, and I genuinely think that everyone should read it.
