The show district was always busy; whether night or day, there was always a multitude of people going about their business. Actors hurried back and forth, men lined the streets spruiking the newest show on offer, and the rich and poor alike made their way with a smile. There was an air of joy about place. It offered fun and exciting new possibilities. For a few hours you could become lost in another world.
Gennosuke strode through the streets; looking completely at ease. The people parted for him as they chatted with each other, some doing so without a glance and others giving him a quick bow of respect. He was the resident Kuniku of the show district and the actors liked to show their reverence in order to give a good performance.
This was his place and Gennosuke wouldn’t dream of leaving it. The city was a wonderful place to live; a hive of activity for him to watch while being pampered. Those foolish uncultured Kuniku that lived anywhere out here were really very foolish creatures.
Gennosuke paused in the middle of the street and stretched. It was almost a shame there were no other Kuniku really living here. They all seem to prefer the wild. Well, each to their own.

Sakura loved to explore, which was easy with her lack of parental figures. She also loved the busy streets of the show district, and all the pretty people and kuniku and different shows she could see if she sneaked into them. The little pink ball of fluff was trotting down one of the busier streets of the district, happily gazing at all the exciting things she passed.
She was particularly distracted by a big, scary-looking mask one kabuki performer was sporting on his way to a show when she crashed headfirst into a very large, very pretty kuniku. Sakura gazed up at him in awe, her feathery tail waggling.
"Hi there! Sorry for running into you Mr. Prettyfur. My name's Sakura! I picked it out myself. Do you like it? I think it's pretty, just like those sakura blossoms you see in the spring-time. Spring-time is my favorite season! What's yours, Mr. Prettyfur? You know, if I had a momma, I bet she wouldn't let me paint on myself like you did. Does your momma know you painted on yourself? Gosh, it must've took a lotta paint to do all that!"

Gennosuke had nothing against youngsters. In fact he found them rather cute. Plus they were impressionable. There was nothing like having a young mind around, to teach them about art and music and all the good things in life. So when little pink female bumped straight into him, his reaction was lenient. “Ah, no worries little one, I....” The male had begun speaking however every word he said disappeared amongst the onslaught of little Sakura.
“Pretty-fur?” “No it’s not.” “Summer.” Were only a few of his attempts to get a word in. Eventually he fell silent, eyes slightly narrowed and chest puffed out indignantly. There was only one thing to do when something like this came along... walk away. And so the male turned around and began stalking away, nose in the ear.

Sakura's little jaw dropped when the big Mr. Prettyfur started walking away from her. Why was he leaving? Did he not like her? Did she do something wrong? Tears welled in her big blue eyes and she began sniffling. "Why... don't... you like me..?" the young kuniku squeaked.
She plopped down in her spot, her tiny body shaking as the sobs started escaping her. As much as it embarrassed her to have a bunch of strangers gawking at her as she bawled in the middle of the sidewalk, it hurt much more to have her new friend walk away so coldly.

Gennosuke stopped dead in his tracks. The male partly turned and stared aghast at the sobbing baby Kuniku. In the end, he wasn’t an unkind creature and really was quite the softy when it came to cute, pretty little things. Plus it really wasn’t good etiquette to make somebody cry in public. “Ah... no, no.” He hurried back over. “Of course I like you. I just needed to see something.” He attempted reassurance though he couldn’t quite stop his words from sounding quite curt.
“Stop that sniffling.” He leant closer and licked her nose. “Come on now. There’s no need for that.” Gennosuke pulled himself up and gave a deep sigh. “Shall we find something to eat? A good meal is always enough to stop salty tears.”

Sakura calmed quickly as he came back to her, and snuggled her tiny head against his massive, fluffy chest, wetting his fur with her tears and slightly runny nose. She gazed up at him after a moment, a smile spread across her bright face and her feathered tail wiggling again.
"You mean I can stay with you, Mister P- hey, what's your name anyway? Or d'you want me to just call you Prettyfur?" She was on her toes at the mention of food. She was indeed rather hungry, as the little berries and nuts she'd collected here and there were not as filling as she'd hoped they'd be. "That sounds real nice!"

The male made a face as his lovely clean fur was smothered with baby muck. Oh darn it. If he didn’t abandon her now while he had the chance he was going to be stuck with her. He frowned while she smiled and then eventually gave a sigh, ears flicking backwards a little. “Yes, yes... you can stay with me, but you will refer to be as Gennosuke-sama. Understand?”
He turned and began leading her down the street. He hadn’t had his breakfast yet either and so was looking forward to a good meal. The male lead her down the long and winding street up to the doorway of small restaurant. “Come inside.” Without a pause he stepped inside and sat himself in full view of everyone, giving off a very self important air.
It wasn’t long until the humans, quite used to these visits, appeared with bowls of rice, pickled plums slice vegetables.

Sakura was quite pleased, although she wrinkled her nose. What a horribly long name he had! "I understand, Mr. Gennosuke-sama," she replied with a little sigh. She followed the big kuniku, a bit slowly as she was still ogling all of the large signs and various creatures skulking about the streets. She stepped into the restaurant and seated herself beside him, sticking her nose up in the air just like Mr. Gennosuke-sama did. She peeked up at him through half-closed eyes, her tail waggling in hopes of getting his approval.

Gennosuke looked sideways at the little female and gave a hint of a smile. “Humans are very silly creatures. But we protect them because it is our job. It’s only right that they give something back to us by feeding us.” He dipped his head over the food, giving a small thankyou to Inari and the gods who had created the Kuniku and then tucked in. He was delicate in his eating. A bit of rice, a bit of vegetable, a bit of plum. Never shoving in more than his mouth could take. Good manners was a sign of good breeding after all.

Sakura wanted to simply tear into her big bowl of delicious rice but noticed that her companion was not doing so. She gazed up at him, watching with curious awe as he simply nibbled here and there with small bites. Was that the way a kuniku was supposed to eat? She cocked her head and pondered it a bit. She didn't spend much time around other kuniku so she couldn't be sure. But she didn't want to embarrass Mr. Gennosuke-sama and so she tried her best to eat like he did, with patient bites and working toward not dropping anything.

Though he wasn’t completely full and the food hadn’t been finished, Gennosuke sat back with a content sigh. It wasn’t good to stuff your face. In the city there was always food available and Gennosuke liked to make sure his figure was always lean and strong. There were one or two Kuniku he knew who liked their food a little too much and were now rolly-polly creatures that were useless at everything.
Gennosuke turned his head to watch Sakura as she ate, giving a proud nod. “That’s the way.” She seemed like a quick learner. If she stuck around, he could turn her into the perfect lady. Gennosuke rather liked that idea; causing a smile on his usually stern face. As he waited for her to finish he licked his face and then his paws clean.

The only acknowledgment of Gennosuke's approval was a little wiggle of her tail as she continued eating. Unlike the older kuniku, the young pup found it difficult to find food and often found herself with an empty belly. So when she got an opportunity like this she filled herself up as much as she could, not knowing when her next meal would come. Once she had licked the bowl clean, she eyed her friend and began licking her paws and face to get the rice and sauces out of her white fur. Then she stared up at him with big blue eyes and waited for him to tell her of their next adventure.

Upon seeing that she was ready, Gennosuke stood and stretched and then padded towards the doorway. He paused there and turned to look at her thoughtfully. “Do you have a name?” Most things had a name, though Gennosuke wondered that if she didn’t, then perhaps he could give her one. What would he call her? Probably something to do with flowers; judging by her pretty pelt. “Well?”

Sakura's eyes narrowed as she glanced at the male over her shoulder. Her smile slowly became an annoyed frown. "I already told you my name, Mr. Gennosuke-sama! It's Sakura! My name's Sakura-chan and I picked it out myself..." She was starting to whimper again, upset that her 'friend' had already forgotten something so important.

“Oh... you did... Sakura, yes....” Gennosuke mentally cringed. How could she expect to remember anything of what she’d said in that rambling mess of hers? The whole thing had shot over his head while he’d stood their baffled. Really, there was no reason to cry about it or whimper... or look so pathetically sad. “I forgot.” He said bluntly and then cleared his throat. “... sorry.” The subject needed to change immediately! “Come on now, I’m going to take you to see a kabuki show.”
