The offer of hunting with someone more experienced seemed too good to be true. He'd agreed, perhaps too eagerly and followed the hyena. Being able to catch food on his own at this point would be a god send. Even something as simple as were to look was over his head.

Ylva was still shaking her head not sure why she was doing this. Why she was teaching a lion, king of the jungle, how to hunt. Ah well, even if she wouldn't admit it the company was nice.

So far there had been nothing worth chasing after. Sure lizards and mice and small birds did nicely if you were a pup or a cub but as a full grown preditor it wasn't a suitable prey to eat. If the two couldn't find something worth hunting, stealing was always a good lesson. Hey, out here it was every animal for them selves. . . So why was Ylva having this big pathetic lion follow her around? Pity? bleeding heart?

Yeah probably. Ylva continued on wards with her slow bear like stroll. Being careful not to attract to much unwanted attention.

(( I FOUND YOU. HAH. Top of the page is so hard to find. ))

Chane padded along behind her watching the hyena closly for clues on what to do next. Where she moved gracefully and quietly he just trudged along, paying no mind to the terrain or his surroundings. It was probably his worse habit and the one he'd have to kick first.

Ylva looked back over her shoulder to give the lion a look. He was gonna let the whole of Africa know where they where if he kept up his pace like that. She stopped and faced him with an irritated look.

"First rule of hunting. You don't let all the plains know you're here. " She narrowed her eyes. "are we clear on this first rule?" She tilted her head. Her tone had been a bit bitchy but right now she didn't care. Asa needed food and clearly this lion needed some. Though it was crystal clear why he hadn't caught any yet. Ylva kept her blue icy cold eyes trained up at the taller mammal.

Chane nodded sheepishly and turned his attention to his feet. His stepps still weren't quiet, but they were better. He could see his front feet so it was easy enough to avoid the small thigns that made noise. But his back feet seemed to trip over everything.

Ylva shook her head and continued on ward. She really doubted the two were going to be finding anything today or night. It was like the plains were all on a union break or something.

Still , Ylva moved forward with the lion at her rear. Silently in her head she wished for something to appear they could kill.

Chane was more concerned with where his feet feel then if they'd catch another small mocel right at that moment. He figured any small detail she could point out could be of great use. He'd take it in as best he could.

When he was satisfied enough with his footwork to move on without staring downwards constantly he looked back to Ylva. Surely there was more.

Ylva hadn't noticed that Chane was focusing on his foot work so intensily. No, she was to busy looking for something the two could get some real practice on.

She was about to just give up and tell Chane she'd see him later when she saw it. Or rather them. Mother and child weeldebeast out on their own. Ohohoho ~ What luck.

Ylva turned to Chane about to tell him to duck down lower when she noticed the odd manor he was studying his feet. She tilted her head at him.

It was right then that he looked up, a goofy grin on his face as he waited for further instruction. He was so focused on Ylva he didn't even notice the weeldebeast standing just behind her. But she was just standing, staring at him. Slowly his smile melted away. What had he done?

Ylva sighed, a smile crept along her own maw as she shook her head. This lion was really human raised like a lap cat or something. She couldn't be mad at him for his innocence.

But he was doing well with what he was being told to do. She gave him that.

"Look over there not at me," She motioned with her head towards the weeldebeasts.

He raised his head slowly, as if he didn't really expect to see anything standing behind her. When the two beasts came into view though, he took a step back and sunk closer to the ground.

"You're not serious, those things are huge! I couldn't take one of those down!"

Ylva would have given him a shocked look if she hadn't known he was human raised. He was skinny but still a lion. The small one was at least in his range , human raised or not.

"Lesson number two, remember you have the claws and teeth, " She shook her head. Normally Ylva didn't go after weeldebeasts her self but this was just to perfect. She had a lion on her side for one and two they weren't with the herd. An easy prey... unless the mother got mad and charged the two of them

That wasn't going to happen though. Ylva would charge back.

Chane raised his bad paw, flexing to look at his claws, and wincing as he flexed. His left paw was stronger, but he wasn't worried about that one. He looked up at Ylva, then over at the Weeldebeasts again. He doubted he was strong enough, but it wouldn't do any good to just give up now.

"Alright, what do I do..."

Ylva hadn't noticed his weaker leg. s**t, that was going to make things more complicated then she cared to have them. The two needed an actual plan.

Ylva laid down in the grass and just watched the weeldebeasts. What to do what to do.

"You dont got any bright ideas do ya?"

"No," Chane said. "I catch mice like this," he illustrated by squishing a front forepaw on the ground. A motion that would break the back of a mouse. "I have no idea what to do against something that size."

Ylva felt her ears lower. The boy was serious wasn't he? This wasn't any good. Hopefully he'd find a pride later on that showed him how to survive otherwise he wasn't going to last long.

Ylva just frowned, "Okay then just watch me," She slunk off into the grass making sure to keep low.

Just watch me. Did that mean stay put? He wasn't sure so mimicked her, getting low to the ground and heading toward their target. He travelled at a much slower pace though, glancing back and forth between his footing, Ylva, and their target. He'd try to help, but he wasn't about to do anything that would put them in jeopardy. Or... at least that was the plan.

Chane must have really been focused on his footing because the hyena didn't hear him behind her. She was just focused on the meal at stake. Just a little closer, little more.

Ylva stopped when she was close enough she could almost reach out a paw and stroke the weeldebeast. This was dangerously close. Even though it was a lone mother and calf the mother could easily trample Ylva.

Hopefully the hyena would be able to cause the mother to run in the other direction. Ylva stayed low in the grass just thinking.

(( If you want this closed up before I leave we should try to do that in the next few posts. Tomorrow's my last day and I'm gonna be hella busy.

Maybe the next part could be the tree way RP we'd talked about? Have you talked to that other person at all about it?))

Worried about his footing he stopped, still well behind her. Sure, practising was fine but if he got up close and made the wrong move then it might all be over. This was as close as he was comfortable getting. If she needed him, well, he was hoping instinct would kick in and guide him. After all, back at the village he'd started catching rats on nothing more then instinct. Maybe that's all he really needed?

He took a deep breath.

(( Okay = ] ))

The breath had gotten Ylva's attention. She hadn't noticed Chane right behind her, what the hell?

The weeldebeast also heard the breath, because, now its ears were up and it was looking for any sight of the owner of that breath. The beast of a creature backed up very slowly, caution bleeding clear on its face. Right now as the time to attack. The mother was frightened and not full of rage. Thank god.

"NOW~! DO A I DO~!" Ylva hissed. The hyena rose out of the grass and took a step towards the beast, her teeth clearly showing. The fur on her back was raised, Ylva looked almost twice the size she really was. A fierce sight.

It was a good thing Ylva was in front of him. His attempts to look menacing were failing. His growl was too quiet to be heard and when he tried to raise the fur on his back he just ended up looking scruffier. The only thing menacing about him was his fangs. This last little while aside, his teeth had been well taken care of and they were in superb condition.

His eye flicked to look at the hyena, then back to focus on the prey. He did this cautiously, worried that spending too much time concentrating on his companion would loose them the kill.

Despite Chanes fail to look mean and scary, the weeldebeast bought into the scare and took off running. The calf followed in tow after its mother but was not nearly as fast.

Ylva took off after it and was able to at least herd it away from following its mothers path. Now the calf was running some aimless direction at the mercy of Chane and Ylva.

Course, they'd have to catch it before another animal caught wind of this perfect meal.
