Calandra walked through the forest, ears alerted for any sounds of game as she led her two adopted pups through the forest. She could hear them rustling leaves behind her, and would have smiled were she not so on task. As a hunter for the Outriders, Calandra wanted to teach her pups how to hunt small game now, and they could move to larger group hunts when they were a little older. If nothing else she wanted to teach them how to fend for themselves, or as a team, if they ever ended up wandering the way she had.

She stopped moving and was gratified to hear the movement behind her stop after a moment as well. She looked back at her two pups, making sure she had their attention.

"What do you hear?"

Evadne followed Calandra at a quick walk to keep up, and she was aware the adult made far less noise than she did, although she was trying to make her steps softer. She flinched as she stepped on a twig and slowed down, trying to pick her steps more carefully.

When Calandra stopped moving, it took Evadne a moment to notice, but she froze, setting her paw down slowly to make no noise as she looked up at her mother. Had she heard something? Evadne wasn't so good at paying attention to more than one thing at a time yet, so she looked off to the side before looking back up at her waiting teacher. Once she was asked to listen, Evadne straightened up and perked her ears up, straining to hear anything.

Was that a sound? Maybe it was a squirrel, or a chipmunk! No, she realized as a breeze pulled on her fur and cooled her, it was just the trees catching the breeze. When would the leaves start changing? At home they would be turning now, but here they were still green, not yet ready to turn.

The rustle of leaves drew her attention again, and she looked off in that direction.

"A... squirrel?" She hazarded, looking back to Calandra.

Indeygo was attempting to move as silently as possible through the underbrush - although he had to admit that his adoptive mom was far better at it then he and softly muttered 'drats' could be heard as he accidentally brushed dried crinkly leaves or stepped on the odd twigs. In fact he was concentrating so hard that he nearly ran straight into Evadne's rump as she came to a sudden stop.

Hearing his mothers question he pricked his ears staring off into the woods and straining to hear whatever he could, frowning in slight annoyance as his sister picked up on the rustling leaves first. Oh well he thought to himself and gave a little tail wag of agreement with the Squirrel idea.

The big, pale-coated male wasn't particularly trying to be stealthy but, like Calandra, he was a hunter and walked with a hunter's natural quietude. It wasn't his forte, hunting: he wasn't nearly the best in the pack, but he had a good ability and his size made up for any finesse he lacked.

His feet instinctively found places between twigs, his body ducking so as not to brush against loose branches but his eyes were staring off into nothing and his mind was entirely elsewhere.

It was, thus, that he ended up wandering towards the trio without realising it.

((Lol That's okay.))

Calandra turned her nose to the wind and inhaled deeply as it blew scents from upwind of them. "Squirrel. Very good." She sniffed again, looking a little more confused. There was more than that... Wolf. Calandra backed towards her pups, turning in the direction the stranger was coming from.

"I want you to stay low and quiet," she ordered, looking down at them briefly before her eyes went back to searching for signs of trespassers. As a pale coat passed between the trees, Calandra focused on it. Another wind brought the scent to her again and she inhaled deeply, to make sure it wasn't one of their pack. She knew that scent...

Her face broke into a smile as she realized where she had smelled it before and her eyes looked for Ouranos again, though she had lost him amid the fallen trees and towering trunks. "Come along, I'm going to introduce you to a friend of mine. Perhaps, if you are very quiet, we can surprise him."

The breeze brought scents to her nose too, but Evadne couldn't pick out the right ones the way Calandra could. Not yet. Her tail wagged shortly as she was proved right, but it slowed its wagging as Calandra grew concerned and stopped with the gently command in her voice.

"What is it?" She whispered, hunkering down towards the ground. Was there something dangerous? A spark of fear flared in her. She didn't want to lose Calandra too!

Calandra's sudden ease, however, dashed that fear away and replaced it with confusion. A friend, did she smell another wolf? That would make sense. Her tail wagged again as Calandra began walking away, and she trailed as quietly as she could.

"We can be a surprise," she whispered excitedly to Indeygo, tail wagging like an enthusiastic little banner. "Just don't step on any sticks!"

Indeygo lolled his tongue out in a wolfish grin as Calandra confirmed the squirrel - he was happy enough to be right that he forgot Evadne had found it first. Quite pleased he looked about them and plum missed the sudden unease which washed over Calandra until his sister hunkered down toward the ground where upon Indeygo plastered himself down as well stifling a small whine by burying his nose into a paw. The purple pup just wasn't a very brave creature. Oh gods he thought to himself..some terrible beast is out there!

His fears were laid to rest however as Calandra suddenly seemed happy - friend? that would be nice he though to himself, he rather missed having a large family and lots of friends roaming about, eyes bright his tail whipped about in enthusiasm as he followed the others.

"I'll try not too!"

He replied to Evade in a voice just as excited before focusing on the ground and slinking down lower as though trying to hide.

Calandra ghosted up towards Ouranos, eyes focused intently on him but her ears and nose searching for any hints that he wasn't alone. However, like the first time they had met, it seemed he had decided to take some time away from the Glen, which suited her fine. Her eyes almost glowed with the intensity of her stare as she crept up on him, paws hardly making a sound in the leaves. In a way, it was like she was hunting him.

When she was within a few yards, Calandra slowed down to wait for the pups to catch up, debating how she wanted to approach this. She glanced away for a second to see their progress, not wanting to stray too far from them, even this close to their own pack lands.

She wagged her tail at the pups, and then stepped closer to him sure he would sense her any second if she didn't do something.

"You really," she announced abruptly, "Shouldn't be out alone. What if someone ambushes you?"

Indey was quite focused on staying silent, so focused in fact that with his eyes cast upon the ground to spot any problem areas - dry leaves, tiny sticks - that he thumped headfirst into the trunk of a tree.

"oof"

The sound escaped his maw as he flopped back onto his haunches and shook his head slightly. And then realizing that he might have given them away the little pup flattened himself to the ground and scuttled off into the undergrowth surrounding the tree. Maybe whoever they were trying to surprise would just think a clumsy chipmunk had made the noise. Popping his head up over the brush to peer about he spotted his sister not to far off and went back to slinking in her direction.

Evadne giggled at her brother's clumsiness, then quickly looked back at Calandra as she turned her head to look at them briefly. Evadne tucked her tail low-- though not between her legs-- and smiled sheepishly at her foster mother.

Her eyes went back to Indeygo as he crept out of the underbrush towards her and she playfully headbutted him, then tried to push him over with a paw. Both of them had messed up that time, but they had stayed quiet the rest of the way, right?

"You're so clumsy," she whispered. "How did you walk into a tree?"

"I was trying not to step on any sticks"

He whispered back to his sister whose paws knocked him over when he slipped on damp leaves due to her head butt. It didn't dawn on Indey that his explanation was a slightly ironic - in managing to try and avoid little sticks he had walked right into a very big one. Now on his back he playfully pawed at his sister with his forelegs.

Ouranos flinched as the voice came from behind him, seemingly from nowhere. He whirled around to see a female with two pups - and it took him a flicker of a second to realise it was Calandra. He broke into a grin, if a sheepish one, then noticed the pups. To allow a fully grown wolf to sneak up on him was one thing but pups? He really had been far away in his dreaming!

Wait, pups? He hadn't know the female had young - he hadn't asked and... she hadn't asked him but, for some reason, he'd assumed she was... she didn't have... Maybe they were just young from the pack she was caring for? He eyed the little ones, smiling.

"Hello, I'm Ouranos" he introduced himself quietly and then, to Calandra "Good to see you again, even if you are trying to scare the life out of me! Are you and your er these little ones out for a trip?".

"It's good to see you too," Calandra agreed, tail giving a brief, lazy wag. "I'm acutally out teaching them how to hunt and listen for their prey." She looked back at the two wrestling and letting out soft yips and growls as they played.

"However," she said, raising her voice slightly, "It seems they've forgotten how to act around new wolves."

Once she had gotten their attention on her again, Calandra smiled and gestured with her muzzle for them to come closer. "These are Evadne and Indeygo, my pups. I figured I would begin teaching them alone now so they learn the basics quickly, and then they can hunt with the pack in the bigger hunts later on."

"Neither seems to have been exposed to hunting before they came into my care." She leaned her head down to pull a burr out of Evadne's fur with her teeth and deposit it in the leaves instead. "You were apparently distracted enough not to notice us coming, or that you had crossed in to our land." She grinned for him, tongue lolling out. "Honestly crossing it, this time. Is everything all right?"

When Calandra pointedly referenced their behavior, Evadne stopped biting her brother's ear and looked up like a deer caught napping, and released his ear with a sheepish smile.

"Sorry, Cali," she replied, tail wagging in a cute, innocent way. "We were good until he ran into a tree though!" She pushed her brother gently again as she got back onto her feet and shook her body all over. Her gold-olive eyes turned to Ouranos's and she smiled shyly as she moved up closer to where Ouranos was, although her furiously wriggling body showed how excited she was to meet someone new.

"Hello."

This was another wolf who had normal colors. Evadne hadn't met any wolves who were as different in color as she and her brother were. Most of the adults might have some, but they were usually normal browns and blacks and whites and all shades in between. It was odd, being here when she could still remember wolves more like her and her brother-- bright colors, exciting shades-- from when she was little. A lot of her life from before had been forgotten in the months with Calandra, though, and it didn't haunt her the way it had at first, which let her enjoy being a puppy with her brother and grow up the way normal pups would. The world had been harsh to her, but Evadne had yet to meet wolves who were prejudiced against her odd colors, and it would hopefully be years before she had to encounter it at all.

This male had eyes like Cali, though, but his looked more green than hers. They were pretty to stare at, and Evadne was bold enough to continue doing so.

Indeygo rolled his eyes over to look at Calandra with a guilty look as she pointedly spoke of their behavior, rolling over when Evadne released him he was nearly to his feet when Evadne sent him sprawling again with another push. This didn't seem to bother Indeygo however who trotted after his blue coated sister with a happy grin on his puppy face.

Leaves scattered through his fur the little purple pup looked at Calandra "I was looking at the ground!" he explained - as though that ought to completely excuse the fact that he'd run into a tree. Dancing excitedly on his paw Indeygo scooted under Calandra's body and peeked out at the stranger from behind her front legs.

"Your ear is floppy!" He blurted out before really thinking the thought through, and then ducked back behind Calandra's legs after realizing that might be considered rude. "Hi" his voice could barely be heard from behind her.
