Name: Karai
Age: 16 Turns
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: Weavercraft
Rank: Candidate, Apprentice Weaver
Physical Description: Karai is a petite girl of approximately 5’5, with enough soft curves to capture more than her preferred amount of attention. She has long blond hair, that feathers down her back into faint curls at the ends, and does not like to stay in any hair ties. Her eyes are a pale blue green, and her features are overall small, and even, though somewhat narrow and sharp. That sharpness is more often than not softened by a smile, but not entirely lost. She is well groomed, and put together. Her appearance is close enough to her older sister Ava’s that they could probably fool someone who did not know them into believing that they were the same girl.
Personality: Soft spoken and shy, Karai nonetheless likes people, and will throw herself (or be thrown into) situations that are almost too overwhelming for her shyness in the pursuit of making new friends. She likes gaiety; having a particular fondness for get-togethers and social events. Where her shyness gets in the way, she stumbles over herself, only to be picked up by her sister assuming the other girl is present. It is usually safe to assume that where one has gone, the other will follow. She feels pangs of anxiety if she cannot make her fellows happy, and tries her best to do so whenever possible.
She has developed a reliance upon her older sister, and when parted from her becomes more and more anxious as time goes on. She has little personal bravery, but where her sib is concerned she will move mountains. It is difficult to say how she would do on her own as she has never been put in a position of needing to. She has learned how to be diplomatic through the dent of Turns of dealing with the situations that she and her sister have created. Though she has no particular fondness for lying, she will do so without questioning it if it is necessary to protect one of her friends.
Karai is unfortunately gullible, a fact which has come back to bite her on numerous occasions. She is easily drawn into schemes and plots, largely unaware of them about 50% of the time, and when she is aware she tends to overlook the harm they may cause. She does not function well on limited amounts of sleep, and particularly when awakened early if her schedule has not been adjusted accordingly. Like everyone else, she can be crabby when sleep deprived, but tends to feel terribly guilty afterwards, and will pester whomever she snapped at until she feels that she has made amends.
She likes pretty things, small animals, and dancing.
History: Once upon a time, a pair of little girls were born to a Trader and his Weaver wife, one Turn after the other. They were happy girls, for the most part, and their parents were loving… loving, if not exactly responsible. Their father found it difficult to give up his wandering ways, and their mother was so in love with him that she happily went were he wished to go. The only problem was that they had Ava and Karai, neither of which were ready for the open road. Oh sure, if you grow up a Trader, you know what’s what, and how…
But Karai, little Karai, was not happy traveling all the time, losing what friends she made. At least she had Ava. When the latter turned ten, their parents decided that it was for the best to leave them with their uncle Fallan, their mother’s brother, and that was that. However, before they left they informed Ava that they were leaving Karai in her care, and that she was to see to it that her baby sister (by only a Turn) was well cared for. Ava took that pronouncement very seriously.
Their absent parents sent them packages from time to time, usually around their Naming Days, and at least one at Turn’s End. They were always little things, little gifts. Karai adored reading the letters that were sent with the packages, and avidly got to know what she could of her absent parents. Uncle Fallan, a Journeyman Weaver of considerable talent, rolled his eyes at this, and said with dismay that some people were too young to have children. Ava generally agreed. She, of course, was the woman of the household, and she took her responsibility very seriously, even if Fallan did not.
When Ava turned thirteen, and Karai twelve, the Journeyman took them both under his wing as apprentices… rather unofficially at first. They had been learning about the craft for quite some time, really, and had a good head start in the right (in Fallan’s opinion) direction. … Of course, often enough Karai did the weaving for both her sister and herself, while Ava was off searching for firelizard eggs. As they were in a little cothold outside of Southern Boll, it made perfect sense for them to follow their mother’s and their uncle’s craft. Karai was quite happy to do so, and continued until--
--Until a dragonrider came and pronounced Ava a possible Candidate for the latest clutch on Ista’s Hatching Sands. Karai was about to make a fuss, and explain that Ava couldn’t go without her, when the dragonrider’s Blue looked directly at her, and informed his rider that she would be suitable as well. The sisters consulted, and decided that really, it would be quite exciting to Stand for a Hatching! Of course, they also arrived just a little too late to participate, coming to Ista Weyr just as the Feast had begun.
Pets: None yet
Other/Talents: Karai likes to sew, and weave, and is good at both. Good enough to have done her work and her sister’s work as well. If it is associated with the weavercraft, she has probably tried her hand at it, and might be at least halfway decent at it. She has no other particular talents of note.
