Ebere sighed softly as her golden eyes gazed at the flat barren land surrounding her. She bent her head to check the bindings that kept her wounds covered. She had been walking since sunrise and now with the coming of night, she wanted to find a safe place to sleep.
Taking a deep breath, she angled towards the trees in the distance only to stop short as she saw a figure in the distance. For one terrifying second, Ebere was sure the monsters had found her again.
Her breath caught, only to whoosh out as she realized it was only another lioness. Perking her ears, Ebere began to cautiously approach the strange female, the tip of her tail twitching like a live wire.
"Um...hello? Are you alright?"

Hippolyta staggered forward with her head hanging, her paws dragging against the ground as she struggled to get farther... just a little bit farther. Her mind was mercifully blank, save for her driving need to reach her destination. Nothing was more important right now, which is why she struggled on.
The days of tortured travel were too much for her body though and it finally decided it had had enough. She could push herself no more and finally collapsed to the ground. She only woke again when she heard a voice calling to her.
Red eyes blinked bleerily open as she groaned, closing again as the black body sighed. "I'm sorry... Just... so tired..."

"Oh!" A startled gasp spilled from Ebere as she caught sight of the exhausted black lioness. Hurrying to her side, Ebere looked her over carefully for any injuries. "Pray tell me are you injured? I know I may not look it but I am a healer and I can lend you aide."
Her golden eyes were worried as she regarded the still figure. How had the lioness come to be alone in such a barren place and in such a state? She knew thought, that her questions would have to wait for a proper time, when they were somewhere safer.
"I am sorry but we should really try to find a safer place to sleep than here where we may be easily spotted."
She wasn't quiet sure why she said we, when the lioness was a perfect stranger, but the healer in her wouldn't let her abandon another creature that was so clearly in need of help.

Hippolyta sighed as she shifted a bit, till she could look up at the lioness that stood over her and talked to her.
"I'm... I'm sorry." She said softly. "I'm okay, I guess... just so tired..." It was hard to think of what to say. She had various injuries, most already scabbing over and a few that would scar, but nothing life-threatening or maiming.... it was mostly exhaustion and some blood loss that had her on the ground now. The thought of getting up was entirely unappealing, but she understood the need for a secure place.
It took a few weak tries before she got herself up onto her paws, but from the way she weaved on them, she wasn't going to stay up for very long. Her head and tail hung low, eyes glassy and dull. "L-lead on..." She mumbled, glancing back the way she came for a moment. Hopefully, no one was following her. Hippy couldn't handle it if one of those terrible males came to finish her off... she'd probably lay right down and let them finish her.

Ebere smiled gently as she looked over the injured and exhausted lioness, her golden eyes worried. "I promise you, it won't be far. And there I can give you something for your pain." She glanced around frantic for..well some terror, whatever had hurt the dark lioness.
Slowly, but surely, she let her towards a fallen tree, never rushing the inured one, mummering soft words of encouragement anytime she slowed until they were at least to the safety of the trees.
"Here, eat this. It will help with your pain." Ebere smiled at her sweetly as she dug a root free of the ground.
"My name is Ebere, what happened to you if I might ask?"

The black lioness made a face at the dirty root, but flopped down by the tree and ate it. She couldn't have said why she was so willing to trust this stranger, but... she needed, desperately, to have someone to trust. After the upheavals in her life, she needed to hear kind words and look into a caring face.
She sighed softly as she let herself relax, though doing so made it damned hard to stay awake. Hippy knew that she was going to crash soon, and hard. She'd never treated her body so roughly before, she could tell it was going to take a toll on her.
"What happened?" She said listlessly, finding it hard to keep her head up off the ground. "I.. we... were attacked, just outside the pride..." Her face twisted in anger and grief, tears threatening in her eyes. "We went to meet a new female, wanted to help bring her in... but it was all a lie, a ruse... we were attacked by intruder males and we tried to fight them off. My mother... my mother fell... and I ran. I warned the others, but it was my life if I stayed, so I left... left all those who depended on me... my precious little daughter..."
The thought of her new born girl, Calypso, all alone now in her pride, taken over by hostile males... it was too much for the strained lioness. Hippolyta broke down crying, chasing away the thought of sleep as she sobbed out her heartbreak and her guilt, the pain she'd had to put out of her mind as she fled for her life. She cried for a long time, till there simply weren't any more tears to shed. And by then, she was so worn out from everything that she simply fell asleep, so deeply that something could have hit her and she would have done no more than twitch.

Ebere's heart broke for the black lioness in front of her. She made a soft soothing sound as she moved closer, gently grooming Hippy's neck and ears, trying to provide what comfort to her that she could. Ebere knew all too well the pain of family lost and betrayal.
Settling close to the exhausted lioness, Ebere watched over her for the rest of the night, immediately there if anything awoke Hippy during the night, Ebere's soft voice soothing her back to sleep. When she finally awoke in the morning, Ebere smiled offering her another root for any lingering pain.
"Good morning." Her golden eyes were bright and warm as she regarded the dark female. "I have been thinking about what you said last night...and I want to help, if you want that is."

Hippolyta woke slowly, her eyes and throat sore from the storm of tears last night. She still ached everywhere, and some parts down-right hurt, so she was reluctant to do much more than shift a little and grimace as muscles protested. Some of the burning urgency had faded, and in the face of how much she hurt and how hungry she was, the need to get where she was going would just have to wait for a little while.
She lay for a long while just thinking, and figured that she was probably far enough away that she could rest a little while. No one could have made this far yet without pushing themselves as hard as she had and they probably would have collapsed just as she had. So, for now, she was safe. For a little while.
The good morning took her by surprise and she glance over sheepishly at the mint lioness, her ears laying back in a little embarrassment. "Um... Good morning..." The next words that came out of Ebere's mouth took her by surprise and she was speachless for a moment.
"B-but...!" Hippolyta didn't even know what to say... what could she? "Its... you could get hurt, staying with me! And... I don't know where I'm going, or what I'm going to do... you don't even know me! Why... why would you want to help me?"

Ebere's smile was sweet as she nudged another root towards the dark lioness, " Eat this. It will help with the pain and soreness, as for why.." Her ears flicked back as she sighed softly, " My family is gone, slaughtered by monsters for now other reason than to see their blood flow. I know the pain of loss."
She looked up at her then, tears standing in her golden eyes, " I am a healer my lady, I am not some great warrior that can fight, but I heal bodies and sometimes hearts and souls." Standing she smiled again, "Now you rest while I go catch us some breakfast. I shouldn't be gone long."
True to her word, it wouldn't be long till the mint green lioness returned, laying a still warm rabbit at Hippolyta's feet. "Please make sure you eat it all. The meat will give your energy, the bones if you chew them up very tiny will speed your healing."

Hippolyta was quiet as Ebere spoke, and thoughtful. The root she ate without question or protest, then settled her head on her paws as the other went to find food.
She couldn't help thinking, the whole time she was gone, about what would possess her to help like this. Was it just good nature? Did she know who Hippolyta was and see some gain in helping her? Or was she waiting for a chance to lead her stray, like those two-faced lioness that had come with the males? She couldn't hold it all in her head, all the questions spinning and chasing each others' tails... She fell asleep again not long after Ebere left and started awake again when the rabbit was placed beside her.
Blinking sleepily at the carcass, she pulled it close with one slim paw and start to tear into it, watching Ebere under her lashes till she'd gotten a good portion of it into her stomach.
"How... how much help are you wanting to offer?" She said softly as she licked her maw clean, pausing in her eating. A wary expression graced her face, one skeptical of just what she was offering.

Ebere tilted her head with a gentle smile, "Everything I can. I have to admit I am not much of a warrior, I tend to frighten easily..." she ducked her head ashamed of her weakness but if she was to help Hippolyta she needed to be honest with her, "but I -am- a skilled healer and a loyal friend."
Her golden eyes were bright as she lifted her head again, "Like you, I and my family were attacked. I am the only survivor and I..I don't want to be alone. You looked like you needed my help as much as I need your help."
Gulping, the lioness's flicked her ears faintly, "I can't promise I will be much help, but I can promise I will always be a loyal friend."

The dark lioness relaxed as she listened, loosing her watchful look and taking on that look of despair she'd worn throughout her flight into the 'wilderness'. She seemed to sag, and she picked at the meat, swallowing little bits of it in an effort to follow Ebere's instructions.
"I guess I still don't really understand... but I confess that I need all the help I can get. I can't... I can't just leave my pride as it is, but... I can't go back the way I am, not right now." She sighed, her ears laying back on her head. "Some queen I am... running away from my pride when she needs me, fleeing to save myself and leaving them to their fate." Her voice hitched on the words, breaking with a soft sob. All that anger and sorrow rushed back to her and for a long moment, all she could do was cry softly, a heart breaking sobbing as tears ran down her face and over the pink trails of her scars.
"I'm... I'm sorry..." She sobbed, unable to stop herself.

Ebere didn't even pause to consider that perhaps the dark lioness wouldn't want to be touched. She immediately move to bump her head gently against Hipp's with a soft crooning sound as she groomed her cheek and ears. It was so ingrained into her being to comfort and love, that she would no more have left her sobbing, than she could have left her weak and alone.
"My father always said, fleeing a battle does not make one a coward. You live and gain strength so that you may return to the fray. So that is what we will do. We will gain strength and take back your pride. "
Smiling at her brightly, her words held the tone of a true believer. "Have faith, and we will find a way."

Hippy felt her tears slow to a stop as Ebere came to touch her, a little startled, but finding that she rather enjoyed the touch. She'd so often enjoyed affection from her mother... that proud, strong lioness... Hippy sighed as she nodded, feeling a little better, if not perfect.
"You're right, I suppose. I... I don't know how I'll ever be strong enough, but I know my mother. She would have told me the same, to gain back my strength and use it to take back what is mine..." She grew thoughtful and settled back to the meat, finishing off all she could before starting to crack the bones into tiny pieces.
"I guess... I guess I'd welcome your company, if you wanted to stay with me a while. I couldn't... ask you to take on such a struggle, but until it comes to the fighting, I'd be glad of a companion." She offered the other a tentative smile, feeling surprisingly better about the whole effort now. If such a sweet lioness was willing to help her, what about more warrior-like ones? If she could find enough... could she fight off the males with their help? It was an idea to pursue, for sure.

Ebere laughed softly, " Oh you just try and be rid of me! My Aunt once said I am like one of those little pet things. Once found, I never go away again." She teased gently, glad that she could comfort her new friend. Taking a more serious tone, she nuzzled Hippy's shoulder again, "I will travel with you and when the time comes I will stay by your side. Everyone needs a healer around." She winked faintly, finally moving away to get the dark lioness a bit of space.
"Does your pride have allies? Perhaps some warriors that might be willing to battle by our side?" It was slightly eerie how she echoed Hippy's thoughts, but Ebere had decided to throw her lot in with her new friend. Soft spoken healer she might be, Ebere had a quick mind.
