Ban'ma had always wanted cubs. It was one of her lifes greatest regrets that she wasn't married off young and settled down by now, no matter how young she still was. She wanted to be able to fall asleep in a den crowded to the max with bodies; a warm form at her side, maybe two and a sea of little ones snuggled up next to her. The only thing she wanted more than that was to be able to push this damn antelope up the tree.
She had her jaw glamped around the fawn's neck and no matter how hard she slung it the thing's legs wouldn't wrap around the lower branch. Sighing, she closed her eyes and gave one last jump, swing and fail. It wasn't a particularly large catch, but it was all she could manage on her own.
Looking down at the dead animal she felt her stomach twist. Some mother was going to be spending tonight mourning the loss of her young. It was sad enough to make tears form in her eyes. She twisted her head sharply to the side, refusing to look at it, hunger forgotten for the moment.

It was fairly early in the day and Mashaka had left his home before anyone had woken up. He knew that this would perhaps make some worry about him but in his opinion they should be use to his wondering away. Frankly he didn't like spending time around his den anymore, his pain of a step mother just had cubs and now everyone is paying attention to them. He was sick of hearing how he had to be gentle, how they were so young so cute, so little... it was wearing on his last nerve that he had for his stepmother.
As Mashaka wondered around aimlessly he had no plans for today. His purple fur stood out against the forested back drop. As he came through a set of trees he spotted the lioness not standing far from him, she had the same problem he did, her bright fur showed against the forest. He smiled as he saw her trying to fling her kill over the trees. It was amusing to watch her try but he felt bad for laughing. When she gave up he didn't understand why.
Stepping further out of the wooded area he was in he cleared his throat slightly. He wasn't sure that he wanted to talk to her as she was another female, chances are she would be just as bad as his step mother, or not want anything to do with him like his mother. He really had no patients for women, that is aside from his one sister, they had a plan.

Ban'ma's ears flattened back against her head. She had the sound of people clearing their throats and immediately she ran it as someone from her old pride coming to dog her out. The lioness was flabbergasted to see a cub in the place of a big ol' codger. His purple fur was so...so beautiful. It was the purest shade she had ever seen on anything, plants and the sky included. And those gold rings! Why, it was like he was born with jewelry. Her jaw hung slack for a moment before the adorbleness hit.
"Hey, sweetie." Ban'ma smiled, motioning him forward with a paw. She patted the dead fawn and didn't even grimace when a little blood squirted out. The boy looked far too scrawny for a cub. "What are you doing roaming about so early? Exploring?" She guessed and laughed humbly, picking at the carcass to ride the bigger chunk of bone. It wouldn't do for him to choke. "I'm sure your hungry, you have to be. "

Mashaka looked down at the meat that was in front of the lioness. His stomach grumbled involuntarily, he hadn't thought about being hungry before she mentioned it but now all he could think about was food. He edged closer to the food, he wasn't sure if getting something to eat was worth having to talk to this female.
With out thinking about it Mashaka found himself in front of the meat. He decided to be polite which was unlike him, "Is it ok if I have some?" he asked.

Ban'ma chuckled lightly, nudging the chunk of meat she'd just cleaned up infront of the cubbin. It had been so long since she'd seen one so young. He was so small! "Eat your fill, honey. It's all here for you. " Because she surely wasn't going to eat it, not with a hungry mouth infront of her. "Just watch out for the bones, okay? And make sure to get little pieces so you won't choke."
The lioness stepped back a bit to give him space and sat back, licking the blood off her dark paws. A cub, a real cub! But what was he doing roaming about all on his own? She looked at him out of the corner of her eye for a moment. Maybe she could just- No. No, she wasn't about to steal someone elses cub.

Mashaka rushed towards the food excitedly, he hadn't realized how hungry he was before he left the den this morning, he had just been in such a hurry to get out of there before everyone would be awake, it was really becoming a challenge to stick around home more often.
He didn't wait any longer for manners, digging into the meet the lioness had offered him. He listen to her advice and took small bites and was aware of the bones. He was very happy he had run into this lioness, having to hunt for himself would have been a bummer, and he wouldn't have been able to catch something this good.
He took his fill and stepped back away from it, sitting not far off and began to clean himself. "Thank you very much" he said, it was weird but he had some fondness towards this female, he was the only female who given him anything, more of a mother then he had ever had... but then again she was still a woman.

Good Gods above! The cub sure did have an appetite on him. It really warmed her bones to know that she'd been above to provide for him, like a real mother. Someday, someday. She laid down and crossed her paws at the joints in front of her, sitting up as her own mother had taught her to do. After all, pride or no pride, she was still a lady. "Your very welcome." Ban'ma flicked her tail as she smiled. "Although...can you tell me why your by yourself? The jungles full of bad things that could really hurt a little guy like you. Surely your families worried sick."

Mashaka sat after finishing cleaning himself, he laughed out lout when she had suggested that his family would be worried about him. "I am on my own because I do not want to be with my family right now. And they are not worried about me there are too many cubs around my den for them to worry about me." he looked at the female wondering if he should go into the details or not. He decided she would ask so might as well spill it all now.
"You see my father and mother had seven cubs, and when we were old enough to walk and be without our mother they split up she took two cubs with her and he took five. We returned to his childhood home which was close to her for him to find his true love." Mashaka rolled his eyes at this point, he was bitter that he had to leave his real mom to come find some impostor.
"Once we got here and began to settle our father told us that his mate was expecting babies, but they weren't his babies..." Mashaka trailed off her because he knew that there was more to the story then he had been told but he wasn't sure what it was. "Well she had her cubs not too long ago and now there is an additional four to the five that my dad had. The den was so busy before these new boys arrived and now it is just unbearable. I dislike them and their mother I hate being there." Mashaka was now rambling and he didn't care. Often when he started going with this topic he just spilled it all with no regards to how confusing it might be for the listener.

Ban'ma was severely disturbed by this. He was laughing? "I don't thats funny at all. You shouldn't be laughing about that. No matter how many cubs a mother is gifted with, none should be made to feel as if their unloved."
As she listened to his story, she became more and more horrified. This was terrible, simply terrible! "Your poor, poor dear. I can see why your upset with your mother. What kind of woman leaves her children?" She all, but exclaimed. Ban'ma was trying to keep her temper, but it was obvious by the shrillness in her voice that it was cutting her. "Wh-why I've even heard of such a thing. At least your father was good enough to take you, and even if your step-mother has her own to worry about, she should still look after you."
It was absolutey tearing her mind apart to get a handle on this. She calmed down some, and rolled eyes to the sky. "Then again...your step-mother could be working as best she knows. If she's a new mother, and if your father is a new father, all of this could be extremely rough on them both. Nine cubs is alot to handle on normal turf, but this...Can you imagine how that would be?"

Mashaka made an angry face, at first he thought that this lioness would by sympathetic with him, she seemed to be so concerned about his safety, but now she was asking her to think about how things might effect her... he didn't care about her, she had gotten herself into all of this. He on the other hand was just a cub, a cub who had asked for none of this.
He looked up into the lionesses eyes, his had become cold, "I don't care how this effects her. I belong with my mother and I would still be there if it weren't for HER." he yelled... now his eyes were filling with tears. Stupid emotions, they always took such a toll.

Ban'ma bit her bottom lip, her ears laid flat back against her head. His outburst had startled her, but somewhere she knew it was coming. " Shhh, love. Don't cry." She didn't think that he might brush her off. All she knew was that there was a cub in pain and love could heal anything. So, she approached him, lowered herself down to his level and wrapped him up in her paws. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. Buck up, kiddo. Your mom...she still loves you, but she just couldn't keep you. Just think of it like you have two mommies now." She looked into his eyes and smiled. "Maybe even three."

Mashaka slowly sucked the tears back in calming himself down. He allowed the lioness to wrap her paws around him, he pushed himself into her fur, absorbing some of her heat. Since he had been with Bel and Mizu he had begun to warm up to other females, seeing that perhaps he had been mislead earlier maybe they weren't all that bad.
"Maybe three moms wouldn't be that bad" he said quietly curling further into his fur, it was odd, he felt safe, he looked up into the lioness' eyes, he didn't know why but he felt that she was a good lioness. It was crazy how much he had been missing, before not having a mother and his father being so busy with so many other cubs.

Even though the cub was crying and she felt like a heel because of it, Ban'ma felt at ease. He was expressing himself, which was good and he wasn't being spiteful like he was earlier. She squeezed him tight.
She stroked his back with her paw, rubbing comforting circles into his muscles. When he spoke, she almost didn't hear it. Ban'ma's heart stilled. "As long as you breath, you'll always have me," she whispered, rubbing her cheek up against his head. He was the sweetest, most adorable little angel in the world and as much as she didn't want too, she knew that it was time to give him up. " Come on, sweetheart. Let's get you back home. Your papa must be worried sick."

Mashaka looked up into the lioness's eyes, he had calmed so much while being with her. It had been pleasant. He was pretty happy that he had found this particular female.
She mentioned returning to his family, and the cubs muscles tensed underneath her paws, it was unfortunate because her massage and him completely relaxed, he knew that she was right he had to return back to his den, to his home... as much as he had one anyways.
"Will you walk with me?" he asked her quietly.

"Of course I will." Ban'ma answered softly. She licked the area between his eyes up to his little mane in the same way her mother had when she was upset. The lioness stood back up, popping her shoulders blades with a relaxed sigh. "Are they far from here?"
She really wanted to bite her tongue. It wasn't hard to spot the shift in him. When did cubs become so self-aware?
