Eacles glowered out over the raging turf - well it wasn't exactly raging, more rolling in with the tide - but in his current temper Eacles preferred to think of it as raging and so to his mind it was.
Snorting he stalked along the shoreline - silly little Jala mare had come along and ruined all his plans, he'd had the foal nearly scared witless before she'd come and chased him off - and to top it all off she'd managed to get in a quip about his coloring. Surely she'd said a Nequus with such cheery coloring couldn't be as awful as he was attempting to be. Wretched mare...wretched hide..wretched world.
Stomp, stomp, stomp...soon they'd all be sorry the swirly patterned Nequus told himself, he'd show them all that despite his yellow coat and happy go lucky pattern that he was someone to be feared. Someone to run away from...someone to be respected. Why someday perhaps he'd have a herd to rival that 'nuck herd with their superiority complex's. Lead an attack..take over there lands!
Now there was a thought to cheer a fellow up and Eacles shook his head slowing his forward stalk long enough to watch the sun set.

Esterlina pranced among the waves. It was rather entertaining to dart between them. Leaping over the white lines of foam before they could touch her. She must have been an interesting sight to any who saw her but she didn't mind really. She was trying to have fun and that's all that mattered to her.
It was fantastic to feel the cool breeze flowing through her mane and tail as she played. And the sprays of salt water that shot up as she landed cooled her down.
The mare couldn't remember the last time she'd been here. It seemed these days she was always ridiculed for her half blood. The Reyas despised her while the Ichsas actually seemed to see her as a prize. In any case it was definably a relief to be alone and able to be herself for just a few moments.
Esterlina continued to prance around the waves. It was childlike she knew, but it was still so fun. She jumped to the side as she saw a crab. She didn't want to crush the poor thing. He hadn't done anything to her. As she moved over her left fore hoof slipped upon a rock and she landed on a slick rock and fell right in the water.
Oh now she'd done it. It was all fun and games until her clumsiness over took her and she ended up soaked.

Eacles frowned slightly as his view of the shorline was..invaded...by some prancing, ditzy female. Narrowing his eyes he gave her a once over. Little cross breed creature he deduced - probably the product of some Reya mares fling. It wasn't unheard of afterall..though Eacles found such things highly distasteful - and with an Ichsa at that, how quaint .
Now what the heck was she doing the irritable Reya thought to himself as she flung herself suddenly to the side and promptly fell into the water. Eacles let out a chuckle of laughter before he could really stop himself - it was funny.
And then he hit pon a rather amusing idea, plastering a fake smile on his face and what he thought would loke wide concerned eyes the Reya trotted foreward and called out in a seemingly concerned voice. He wanted to see how much he could insult the little mare while being competely pleasant about it.
"I say! are you alright out there? Terrible fall...most might have watched thier step, slippery rocks all over the place an all"

The mare looked up at the stallion as she tried to collect herself. The only thing worse than falling was falling in front of someone. She must look like a fool. At least he seemed to be nice and was checking to see if she was okay. Most would probably just laugh and keep on walking.
She fumbled for words as she stood back up. "I'm Fine." She snapped. As irritated as she was she didn't have to be rude too. "I'm sorry I shouldn't be so rude."
What a sight she must be. Covered in sand and water. She could feel the salty water dripping off her coat and saw a piece of seaweed fly off as she shook out her mane.
She tried to be a little more cheerful. "I'm Esterlina, but you can call me Lina if you'd like. What's your name?" She supposed people could call her Ester too, but it sounded so old and she hated it.
Maybe she could make a friend today. She didn't really know anyone outside of her family. What good was a life if all you did was keep to yourself. It was about time she got out into the world and met new people.

Well now Eacles thought to himself as the mare snapped at him - perhaps she's not quite as silly as I first thought. But then she went ahead and ruined it by apologizing. He kept his fake pleasant look plastered all over his face as he responded.
"I'm sure your parents taught you far better then that."
He spoke this in a soothing tone, as though he meant what would normally be a chastisement as something to make her feel better. Glancing up and down her dripping form in a rather rude fashion he stated in a perky voice.
"well I say Esterlina you look quite a mess! They call me Eacles and I'm fairly certain I would never be caught dead with ...seaweed in my mane"
The yellow and brown Nequus finished in a simple tone as though the mere thought of such a thing rather disturbed him.
"Pity too - to see a pretty white hide like yours all muddied up"

Lina was a little ashamed by her appearance but it wasn't anything a bath later couldn't fix it. Besides, she was sure at some point he had been dirty too. No one could go around looking perfect 24/7 it just wasn't possible.
"Well I s'pose I can get a bath later. You can't live if you're too afraid to get a little dirty once in a while." Even if she was embarrassed she wasn't going to allow him to know that. She did have a little dignity. Really though, a little dirt wasn't a big deal.
She wasn't entirely certain he would change the subject and there wasn't any point in waiting around to find out. If she didn't change the conversation they may very well continue to talk about her appearance for the next couple of hours.
"So," She paused a moment trying to think of something to say. "What brings you to the beach?"

Eacles inwardly frowned slightly - it seemed the little mare wasn't taking his bait and getting worked up in the least little bit, why she was even trying to offer him some sort of crazy life philosophy. Figured he'd run across a female who didn't give a wit.
"I've heard sea salt can dry out your hide something terrible"
Eacles remarked dryly before she went and changed the subject on him - small talk bleh, what a waste of time. He wondered if he could shock her.
"Well I was out torturing a baby bird this morning and when it floated out to sea I decided to talk a walk and watch the swells some. until of course you..danced..or leapt....or fell...into view"
He stated in a matter of fact voice as though torturing baby birds was a completely normal activity that everyone took part in.

It seemed Eacles perhaps wasn't quite as caring as she had originally thought. She had allowed the comments on her appearance to slide, mostly because there wasn't any reason to be worked up over them. The baby bird, however, was a different story.
"A baby bird?" She was shocked. Who could do such a thing to a poor bird who hadn't done anything them? Esterlina couldn't even imagine hurting a fly so long as it hadn't done anything to her. If someone did do anything to her though, she could become quite nasty.
"Who could hurt a baby bird? What did it ever do to you?" The white mare was angry now. 'Floated out to see' He must have killed the poor creature. Nothing deserved torture. Though perhaps this creature did. No, she mustn't say that. Even if he was evil she still couldn't condone torture.

Ah finally, Eacles thought to himself - gotten a bit of a rise out of her and so what if he hadn't actually tortured a baby bird - he would have he told himself if he'd happened across one, well probably not Eacles wasn't much fond of hurting little creatures - no fun in it really they were to stupid to much more then lay there and shriek which was rather unpleasant in the long run. It was far more fun to torment his fellow Nequus who's responses were varied and always different.
"It was in my way"
He responded in a voice which clearly stated such a thing made complete sense and she was somewhat daft for asking such a silly question to begin with.
"And anyone can hurt a baby bird, its easy.. their quite small you know"
He continued in a patronizing tone either outright ignoring the fact that she was disgusted by this thought or not noticing it it was somewhat hard to tell.
"do you want to try..I'm sure we could find one"
Eacles looked up and down the shoreline as though searching for a baby bird, a hint of red caught his attention - it was the crab she had tried to hop over earlier and he pricked his ears nodding towards it.
"Or look a crab! that'll do!"

Was this monster really going to torture a crab right in front of her? No, he wasn't because she wasn't about to let him. She wouldn't allow anything to be harmed while she had the chance to stop it.
Esterlina carefully adjusted her body. She stood up straight and proud and moved her body so that she was between Eacles and the crab. Even if he hurt her she wasn't going to move. The white mare was sure that the crab would suffer more than her if she allowed Eacles anywhere near it.
"I'm in your way too, are you going to torture me?"
She was brave, she had always been brave. Though her peers had always told her she was stupid. What if she was? So what? She couldn't just stand by and watch him torture an innocent creature right in front of her and do nothing about it. Even if she was stupid she wasn't going to move.

Eacles was somewhat surprised - the mare hadn't really seen at first glance like the brave sort - but then he'd never been very good at judging others, something that had gotten him into trouble more then once. Since however she'd decided to protect the worthless crab Eacle gave her a nasty look.
"I might, I doubt you'd be missed much, no one notices when half breeds go missing."
He stated rather cruelly and tossed his head brandishing his horn at her slightly to try and frighten her into moving, somehow he thought it may be rather more traumatizing for her to see him kill the crab then for him to hurt her. Didn't know why - it was just a crab - probably wind up as supper for some sea beast anyways.

The white mare was frightened, she wouldn't deny it, but she also wouldn't show it. Not to him. He might look nasty but if all he did was torture small animals perhaps he was a coward. At least she would stick up for the creature. Even if it cost her her life. Just as he said, no one missed a crossbreed.
At the sight of his horn Esterlina puffed up a little more trying to look somewhat threatening. She lowered her head a little too and allowed him to get a good look. He wasn't the only one with a horn and just because she was a little stupid didn't mean she didn't know how to fight. After all, being a crossbreed tended to put her at the bottom of a lot of other Nequus' lists.
"No, I probably wouldn't be missed. But if all you do is torture small innocent creatures exactly what do you plan on doing with me? I'm a little larger than a crab or a bird." She put it bluntly and hoped she angered him enough to do something stupid. Give her a good chance to disable him. Though she didn't really want to hurt him unless he took the first swing.

Eacles frowned slightly as the mare puffed herself up and lowered her head to show off her own rather pointy horn. Was she really willing to fight him over a silly little crab? Still she was a rather large creature Eacles let his gaze dart left and right as he looked for other options. He could always dart left or right and try to get at the crab that way - but that was pushing it and she might gore him. Eacles..was not willing to get gored over a crab. He unlike the mare was smarter then that or at least that what he told himself.
"Wretched crossbreed, your just too scared to do anything to it. Frightened of blood perhaps?"
He taunted her from a few steps back.
'And anyways there's lots of crabs on the beach I'm sure I can find another one!"

Esterlina didn't like the sound of that. However there wasn't very much she could do about. She wasn't really going to get herself killed over a crab, she knew Eacles was too much of a coward to fight her. It was sad really, a good fight would have been interesting.
"Eacles, are you really trying to call me the one who's scared?" She tried turning some of his tactics back onto him. His little games had irritated her far long enough.
"I can smell your fear. I have no problem spilling any of your blood or mine but I won't unless you make the first move." She knew he wouldn't. Even if he did she meant every word of what she had just said.
"I suppose I can't save every creature out there. Unless I followed along with you. How would you like that? I could haunt your steps and be your own personal little nuisance." The white mare knew he wouldn't like the sound of that and the idea sounded rather interesting. Perhaps she could torment him without even shedding blood. She already knew he was afraid of her.

"Afraid?"
He scoffed at her, giving her a look that clearly said he thought she was insane for even suggesting it.
"I'm just not dumb enough to start a fight over an insignificant little crab, thats you own fear your smelling odd-mane"
He finished flicking his ears slightly as she continued on about following him about - thats the last thing he needed - some little crossbreed parasite clinging to him while he tried to find any sort of amusement in this rather boring world. Scowling at Esterlina Eacles skittered sideways and pulled himself up proudly.
"Do whatever you want - I'm through wasting my time with you"
He stated dismissively before starting to walk off between her and the shoreline, when he thought he had a good enough head star on her he kicked out his hind legs in hopes of clipping her with a hoof before bolting off down the the beach. Of course his kick was so crudely planned that the odds of it going anywhere near Esterlina had been slim, this however did not register in Eacles mind and he was quite smug as he galloped off, peeking over his shoulder to make sure she wasn't chasing him.
