He shouldn't have been surprised that his legs were still bothering him, considering the injuries he'd received...but it'd come as a shock when he'd been rudely roused by Ormeteth's nose in his face. Grunting and flailing in half-sleep, the new rider had blearily peered at the little brown, not understanding what was going on at first.

You are hurting. You make silly sounds whenever you move. You should fix yourself. The dragon had said simply, letting his bottom jaw rest just above where the gouges on his legs were. He'd gotten himself up because he could feel his rider's hurts, and he wanted them to be fixed. His was smarter than others took him for, he knew! So surely G'ran could think of a way to help himself, couldn't he?

G'ran just stared for a moment longer before he growled to himself, rubbing at his face. Trust his dragon to act like a parent... but, the more he was thinking about it, the less he felt like going to a healer. The lakeside, maybe? The water would help distract him, especially if it was cold enough...

...And so, a few moments later, the giant was stumbling exhaustedly outside, Ormeteth trotting happily at his heels. This will be good for you! I have never swam before, either, so I can learn. He did have to nose at G'ran's ankles though, particularly when he'd stuck an experimental foot in and discovered the water was freezing this morning. Soon enough, he was standing in calf-deep and gritting his teeth with irritation so they wouldn't chatter, watching Ormeteth with a sort of quiet fondness as the brown scampered about in the water as well.

Well. At least no one was out here to see him with the little wherry, and that was a blessing. The things he was starting to do for Ormeteth's sake...

Well, Garith was almost right. Except for the fact that Uuni had seen him wandering out here, and now she was intrigued.

Why was she up at this time of the day? Well, she always was, and at the moment she was feeling very happy and very pleased with herself. Usually she wouldn't go gallivanting off after some ruffled-looking boy/man and his young dragon, but today she was sort of looking for a little adventure and excitement. Or was that tonight? Maybe 'this morning' was more appropriate?

With a shrug, she settled down with her cup of steaming klah on a rock not too far away from Goran.

"Isn't a little cold for that?" she asked with a cheery grin. Her lips perked out over the brim of her cup of klah as she took a sip.

He jerked so hard at the unexpected sound of a voice that he almost slipped and fell, a growl on his lips even as he turned to face whoever it was chirping at him at this hour. Shoulders instinctively slackened a little at the sight of the young woman, his expression now more sullen instead of angry at being taken by surprise.

Ormeteth did not share his sentiments, quickly wriggling up and onto shore to peer at her with open curiosity. She came all the way over here to see you! And if she is up, it must mean it is not that early, so you can't growl about it anymore. That final note was accompanied by a slight chirp, and the little brown sat to idly clean himself.

"Tryin' to numb these." He grunted slowly after a moment, pulling his wet pant leg up a little to show the bandaged wounds from the dragon claws. Narrowed eyes studied the girl's face for a moment, trying to remember if he had seen her out on the sands that night... but nothing came to mind. If she didn't ask, he wasn't explaining. Hell, he might not even explain anyway.

I can try, if you won't. Ormeteth said cheerfully, and his rider just scowled.

Uuni smiled at the chirping dragon. It was nice when they were cheerful and loving of their riders. For some reason, she liked that idea; the one that said someone would be happy to see her every morning.

Still grinning, she watched Goran who did not look happy to see her in the slightest. Settling a hand and the klah into her lap, she listened as he began to explain to her the reasons for his rather early and cold ventures to the lake.

Her brows furrowed together and she grimaced appropriately. "One of the unlucky. . . or lucky, at the hatching." It was a strange thing to correct mid-sentence, but, he did seem to be both.

"I can have a look at them after, if you want? Some salve should soften the scabs and keep them from itching. If they crack too much, they get infected." Oh, her mind was so polluted with the information her sister had ground into her. It did come in useful in cases like this, though.

She passed him another pleasant smile. "Do they still hurt a lot?"

His thick jaw dipped in momentary acknowledgment at that; in his opinion, the wounds were a small price to pay for what he'd gained. "Could have been worse." Was all he said, but he grit his teeth immediately afterwards. Hadn't it been? The little blue, the keening of the dragons, the way it'd all ended--it had been worse.

The offer made him shift slightly with a grunt, thick brows furrowed as he gave it some thought. More or less, he was suspicious. She knew what she was talking about, but was offering to help him for no real reason that he could see. And kept smiling. It was enough to make his throat feel a little thick and his tongue feel twisted up, and eventually his eyes shifted awkwardly away from her to settle on his dragon.

"If you'd like." He finally said, thick arms crossing over his broad chest. Ormeteth, much to his dismay, had sidled closer to Uuni to take a better look at her. Of course, he was going to poke a nose in her klah if she didn't notice him, but the rider rumbled a warning note and the brown pause to peer at him.

You are not a dragon, I am! Unless you would like me to teach you, Mine. He sounded a bit sly, and G'ran rolled his eyes irritably.

"G'ran. He's Ormeteth." Also known as trouble. "...They don't hurt much."

You shouldn't lie if she's going to help you. The brown chided lightly, but didn't say much more on that note. Whatever she had smelled good!
PostPosted: Sat Jul 25, 2009 2:34 pm

"Well, you finish with that first," she told him, not wanting to take him out of his comfort zone - or, pretending not to. She knew what the crossing of arms meant, and she didn't blame him for being a bit defense.

The dragon coming closer shifted her attention slightly. Goran changed it again. "I'm Uuni," she told them both. Then she asked another question. "Klah isn't poisonous for dragons, is it?" It was no secret what the small creature's nose was sniffing out.

"You probably shouldn't be so nosy, Ormeteth." That was probably a hypocritical statement considering she'd been her fair share of nosey before.

"It's nice to meet you G'ran. I'm surprised I haven't seen you before if you're always up this time of. . . whenever it is."

Though the big man seemed to hesitate briefly, he finally just issued a gruff sound and stooped to run thick fingers gingerly over the cuts, his face a mask despite the fact that he'd probably like to wince. Uuni. Didn't ring any bells, not that he wasn't surprised, but her question made him pause. "Dunno." He said eventually, then snorted a little. "Would serve him sharding right, if it was."

Ormeteth peered up at her as she said his name, tilting his head for a moment. Well, if it is warm and it will make you happier, Mine, I will be nosy. He did sit, however, and simply peer up at her with his eyes whirling contentedly.

G'ran didn't feel the need to share that tidbit, and shrugged one shoulder stiffly. "Not usually." Came the gruff statement, and he stared at his dragon accusingly before he stepped out of the cold lake and awkwardly, but stood more closely to Uuni now. He wasn't going to ask how she wanted to do this.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 25, 2009 3:31 pm

Well, they'd find out, wouldn't they?

Uuni took another sip and deemed it finished enough before she offered it to the young dragon. He was being so patient, and he looked so cute about it, how could she not share?

When she felt G'ran's presence, she gave him only a quick change in the direction of her eyesight. It took her a little while to register what he wanted.

"Oh, hm. We'll need to be quiet. We don't want to wake my roommates." Taking the cup of klah back, she got to her feet and offered him a wink. It wasn't as if she carried the stuff around with her, really.

From there, she put one finger to her lips and started off down the pathway back.

Ormeteth all but crooned as he was offered the mug, quickly inserting his snout into the opening and letting his tongue slip out to lap at the liquid inside. Starting somewhat at the taste, he snorted, shook his head some, and smacked his jaws experimentally.

It doesn't taste good to me, but if she likes it, then you might like me. The dragon deemed, and G'ran rolled his eyes.

Of course, that was before she gave him a wink and got up, saying something about roommates and being quiet and... Shards, what? They were going to her room?

This was uncomfortable.

Holding himself stiffly, the big man followed the girl with more than a little apprehension. Shards, should have kept his wherry-sized mouth shut, if he'd known what was good for him. Ormeteth, however, thought this was a delightful new game.

This must mean you're friends already! The cheerful words echoed through his thoughts.

If Uuni saw the uncomfort, it only made her more amused. The only time this vanished was when she eyed her dragon-slobber ridden cup of klah. After seeing Kess's green eat today, she decided that it was much to gross to drink the rest of.

She gave it back to the kitchen when they passed by that way.

Perhaps it would have been better if Uuni's room was at least moderately close at hand. However, it was a dreadfully long walk; the first time she'd been directed there, she'd thought she'd been lost.

However, despite any fretting, they eventually did get there, and Uuni instructed him to wait with one those fingers to his lips and a palm to his chest. From there, she disappeared inside. It took her a little longer than she'd planned, but she came out with the necessary things later. What she was doing with something like that in her living quarters? Who knew.

"Did you want to go back to your room, or are we doing this out here in the hall?" Her voice was quiet; she had no desire to wake her roommates at this hour.

And so they went in silence, G'ran thinking both too much and not enough. At least he felt better with the brown at his side, since Ormeteth had no intentions of leaving him whatsoever. He said nothing when the cup of klah was passed over; he knew he wouldn't have probably put his lips back to the lid, either. Generous enough of her to share... he supposed.

Both he and Orm enjoyed the chance to stretch their legs, even though he felt slightly apprehensive about being in the women's barracks. Hunching his shoulders, his feet reluctantly slowed when her smaller ones did--and he stiffened with surprise as one slender finger pressed against his lips, her other hand alighting on his chest. His mind had all but stuttered to a stop with stupid surprise, finding himself gaping after her departing back.

Why are you all sweaty now, Mine...? Ormeteth was curious, and G'ran choked on a growled response that really didn't tell the little brown anything he wanted to know.

When she returned, the big man was watching her warily now, the question posing more threat than it should have. His room, or the hall? Out here, there was the risk of being caught by the old Candidatemaster... So his Weyr, currently unoccupied by any other roommates, would be the safest. Muttering something under his breath, G'ran turned and slunk from the barracks, not even bothering to glance and see if she was following.

Ormeteth, of course, did, prancing playfully around Uuni's legs for a moment before he darted after His. This was exciting!

Uuni's eyes were settled calmly on his form as she waited for his answer. She couldn't catch anything at all when he muttered, but the turn to go was answer enough.

Passing a knowing smile to the playful dragon, Uuni set off after them. Had she been able to understand the dragon's thoughts, she too would have found the ordeal extremely exciting. She was being invited to a room to do something absolutely platonic; compared to when she knew her intentions right away, this felt scandalous.

And when they did arrive, she made sure to have a good look around. He had this place all too himself, did he? Lucky, lucky boy. She'd personally have a war with the candidatemaster himself if it meant her own rooms. Hell, she'd even double the amount of chores she did.

"It's probably easier if you sit down," she told him as her eyes continued to wander. "If it hurts too much, you'll end up on the floor anyway." It was a joke, although a badly made one. Save for her smile, one might not have known its true nature.

But she was serious about him sitting down, and she settled on the floor while waiting for him to do just that.

Ormeteth would be the first to dash into the weyr, and G'ran eyed both him and the place sullenly; he knew it wouldn't last. With how many dragons there were in Ista, they'd undoubtedly be forced to get roommates soon. Until then, he'd enjoy the solitude until it slipped from his grasp. Uuni was eyed carefully from the corner of a narrowed eye, clearly not trusting her intentions--but not going to dare calling her out on them and both insulting her and shaming himself.

Still, something like a grumble welled in his throat even as he obeyed her, not sure what she was hinting at, but definitely not going to dwell on it. He rolled up his trousers slowly, revealing the ugly marks once more. So she had some magic cream, did she? Hm.

Ormeteth, however, was quite eager to wiggle between them with bright-eyed interest. She will help you stop hurting! See? This was a good idea. He was quite pleased with himself, even preening a little before he sat attentively to face Uuni. He was sitting too, see?

G'ran was less than convinced. But, he was beginning to realize somewhat sourly, he was finding it nearly impossible to deny Ormeteth most things.

As a matter of fact, she did. Magic. . . mmm. . . not really. The only magic she had was in her fingers, and maybe her hips. This didn't seem to bother her as she found herself being bombarded by the view of an eccentric brown.

She watched him for no less than the stretch of a long moment and wondered just what was going through its mind. Her gaze turned to G'ran shortly after, and she found herself wondering why Kess and Condoroth were so alike, and G'ran and Ormeteth were nothing but different.

"Right," she said to break her thought before she moved closer to inspect the gouges. Egh. It looked rather gruesome. Maybe this hadn't been such a good idea.

A look at Ormeteth made her realize there was no backing out now. So long as she was gentle enough that nothing ended up bleeding, she could do this.

Mustering up her courage, she tickled her fingertips on the back of his leg first just to see how he'd react. Then, with a smile that was more for her security than his, she took the small flat of cream she'd prepared beforehand and scooped a bit onto her index and middle fingers. It had turned out fairly well this time - soft, white, and with just the right amount of oil.

"This shouldn't sting, but it could," she muttered once before picking the nastiest of the gouges to start. The evaporating water had already given the wounds a worse appearance than they probably had, but scabs meant healing or something, right? Uuni vaguely remembered something about proud-flesh, but not what the signs were.

This was what she spent the time thinking of as she carefully smoothed the cream over the cuts. "Getting the edges is the most important," she whispered with a glance towards Ormeteth. She didn't think G'ran would care to listen. "Otherwise he'll yap and yowl all night long when the new skin pulls against the healing part." Not unlike having to oil rapidly growing dragons, actually.

It didn't take her long at all; perhaps a tenth of a candlemark. When she'd finished, she scraped the stuff off her fingers with her teeth. It was edible, although it didn't taste the best. It was still better than putting it all over her clothes. It would stain them and be a nightmare to get off.

"You can probably ask one of the Healers for more if it helps." Wow, huh, she felt kind of professional doing this. Important? There was the word she wanted.

His nose wrinkled faintly as she leaned in without apparent sign of disgust or apprehension to stare at the wounds. In truth, his eyes kept sliding from her face to fix determinedly on other, inanimate objects, so her expression was hard to judge. Didn't mean he couldn't do it anyway.

The dragon in question would look just as politely at the girl, clearly patient and not about to get in her way. His head would tilt this way and that as he tried to get a better look at what she was doing, and though he wriggled from time to time, he seemed quite determined to sit where he was and not make a nuisance out of himself.

A subtle clench of his jaw was all that showed he felt her fingers, the leg twitching just a little. Still, he wasn't going to dare ask what she was doing--he wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer--and his gaze fell briefly on the cream she pulled out. Stinging? Couldn't be any worse than an angry dragonet tearing open his skin. It didn't sting, but his legs were sore, her gentle fingers still causing his brows to furrow with slight irritation.

Ormeteth perked visibly as she whispered to him, eyes whirling. The edges, Mine! Like that was some sacred mantra that had just been taught to him.

G'ran was struggling to listen, actually, his lips thinned as the brown continued to chatter at him. Perfect; someone to help mother over him. No wonder Ormeteth was thrilled. But soon, it was over, and the man couldn't help but stare as the rest of the cream was scraped off by her teeth. Had to be made from plants, therefore edible... but he wasn't so trusting.

"...Thanks." He finally offered, gruff, but genuine. The pain had already started to ebb, and though he was reluctant to test the limits of the stuff, so far, he was vaguely satisfied.
