Amaranta was getting older and now she was starting to venture further and further out from her family's den. She was always spending so much time training with her mother and her siblings she wanted to meet other in the pride. This pride was her home and she felt that she should know all that was possible about the pride, and all those in it.

She was walking down by the beach when she spotted the older... the older she wasn't sure what he was. She just knew he was larger then her and a boy. She began to walk towards him, having the strong intent of introducing herself, perhaps the fact that he was different meant he would be able to teach her things no one else knew.

User Image Risasi was tired after a hard session of training. Things were paying off, though. The large creature was solid muscle now, no trace of the flab his leisurely lifestyle previous to this pride had allowed him to grow. He was carved and strong. More than that, he was working on his speed and reflexes, so he could be as effective a fighter as he knew how.

And the Gladiator was doing a good job of it.

He was sitting in a cool spot, to relax after his work out, and his ears perked forward when he heard something approaching him. Lifting his blue head, he quickly recognized one of Atia's cubs, having learned who each one was from a distance just so he could make sure they were safe. He had, after all, promised to protect Atia and that meant, by extension, protecting her cubs.

"Hello there, Amatanta," he said with a grin, knowing it might throw her off for him to just say her name out of no where.

Amaranta was a little shocked and took a step back when the creature before her stated her name. She knew that her mother was a fairly prominent member of the pride and as such her and her sibling would be known as well, but she hadn't been expecting him to know her name.

Summing up all the bravery she had she Amaranta looked back at him, "Well I think since you obviously know my name it is only fair that you tell me yours." she stated. She was still confused as to what species he was but all she felt she needed to know was that he was larger, and obviously very muscular and he knew who she was. With all of this going through her mind Amaranta automatically mistrusted him, her mom had trained her and her siblings to trust no one.

Risasi smiled warmly, stopping near the cub and lowering his posture so he didn't look so big and scary. He laid down, putting his head on his paws and watched her with his big, friendly green eyes.

"I'm Risasi," he said, laughing and shaking his head. From her sharp tone he could only assume that she was yet another chip off the ol' block, as far as Atia went. He didn't mind, though. He knew they were all just cubs still, no matter how they acted.

Inching closer, he tilted his head at her.

"I'm a friend of your moms. I come over a lot, and saw you guys as little babies. You wouldn't remember that, though. How are you doing today, little one?"

"A friend of my moms?" Amaranta said, it sounded like a question but she had meant it more of a statement. She loosened up slightly, her mom would have warned her if there was someone dangerous in this pride that she needed to be aware of, her mother always wanted her cubs to be well informed.

"Well hello Risasi." she finally said kindly. She had noticed his change in stance but still held her self boldly. "Well Risasi what do you do in the pride that you know my mother so well." Amaranta was always interested in making future friends that would be helpful for her in the future... a quality she had gotten for her mother.

Risasi nodded.

He liked her smiling at him, and being a bit less on guard. More like a cub and less like her mother, he thought to himself with an inner grin. He shook his head. He couldn't think bad things about Atia's parenting style: she was a very specific kind of lady, and of course her cubs would be raised in that style.

He tilted his head to the side.

"I met your mother when I first came to live here, really. She was one of my first friends. But I'm a Gladiator here, and she helps me by telling me stories and how I should better myself. I try and keep her safe." He smiled, completely oblivious to the fact that the arrangement was more take than give, and that he was being used.

Amaranta couldn't help but snort at the idea of her mother needing protected frankly put her mother was one tough lion, even if she was old. But Amaranta knew better then to point that out, her mother must have a use for this..... her thoughts stopped, it occurred to her she still did not know what he was.

"You aren't a leopard or a lion Risasi what are you doing in the pride?" she attempted to hide her lack of knowledge as to what exactly he was but still go ahead in away that might be able to find out what he was.

Risasi tilted his head.

"I'm a leopon," he said, smiling broadly, "I was born to a lion mother and leopard father, so I'm half of both. So, really, I'm the perfect fit for this pride, since I'm the best of both words." He looked a bit boastful, but the longer he trained, the harder he worked, the more he came to know that he was getting closer to that grand goal.

He wanted to prove that he was more than a lion, and more than a leopard: not just a bit of both. He was better. It wasn't about ego or pride. It was about living his life in the best way he knew how.

"What do you think about that, Amaranta? Do you like or not like the idea of something with mixed blood?" It was an important question to be asking one so young.

Amaranta thought about it carefully it was strange for her to have an adult ask her opinion on something like this. She hadn't thought about it much before, but she guessed that it wasn't that bad. "I don't think I see how it makes you different then anyone else. No one is better or worse based on their species. Well not between Lions and Leopards or Leopon as the case might be, we are all the best equally." she wasn't sure she was getting her point across but she felt she was saying something very important.

"So you said you were a gladiator right? My mother was a gladiator but I guess you knew that already. What do you think of being a gladiator?" Amaranta was starting to spark more interest in the inner workings of the pride, she wanted to know more about how everything worked.

Risasi laughed.

"That's a good way to think about it, really," he nodded sagaciously, looking at her with his friendly, though keen, green eyes. Seeming to understand what she had been trying to say, he shrugged and let the subject drop when she moved on, listening to her question with interest.

"I am," he said, nodding, "and I did know that. But ah. I think being a Gladiator is something I was always meant to do. I don't know why, but I've never been as focused or dedicated to anything then when I came here. So I think it's pretty cool." He grinned.

"What kind of job do you think you're cut out for? There's no rush to pick anything yet, of course, with you being so young and all."

"I don't know if there is anything I am meant to do like you were meant to be a Gladiator. Mostly I am still trying to figure out how the pride operates." Amaranta said sounding much older then she really was. Truth be told until recently she hadn't really thought about doing anything other then taking over the pride... the one thing she thought her mother might be proud of, but that dream was starting to fade from her head, thinking perhaps instead there was something else she could be more cut out for, something that would take her from her family even. It was no secret to those in the family and a few that knew the family well that the level of competitiveness there was was nearly unbearable and the cubs rarely got to be cubs.

"Perhaps I could be a priestess," she said quietly talking mostly to herself. "I was conceived during the Venus festival... but you probably knew that." she spoke with confidence that would make one belive that she knew what she was talking about but in actuality she had no idea what the word conceived meant, she had just heard her mother talking about it to other pride members. She had heard them mention that there father being an outsider and her mother not having him as a true mate, her siblings and her should have been slaves not citizens.... something Atia wouldn't have had.

"Maybe I can do something for the goddess Venus." this time her voices with faint and you could tell her mind was wondering. She was thinking of all the things Venus had done for her. Including her good looks, she knew that was a gift from Venus. As young as she was Venus was already quite vain.

The blue leopon listened, nodding thoughtfully as the little leopard spoke. He always marveled at how articulate they were, though he shouldn't be so surprised. They weren't as young as he imagined them in his head, after all, and Atia was probably keeping their education moving. They were all destined for great, for good or bad, things.

Of course, he was a bit surprised a little cub like this knew what 'conceived' meant in this context. He didn't bring it up, though. He kind of got the feeling that the cub didn't, actually, know what it meant and to try and explain was definitely not something Risasi wanted to be responsible for. Anyway, the Venus Festival didn't strike him as something Atia would like to brag about or even, really, have it mentioned. But then again, he didn't know if she had planned all of this, or which part might have been an accident.

It was always hard to tell with her.

"Maybe. But liking a God and worshiping one are two entirely different things. It might be hard, but I think if you dedicated yourself to it, you could probably figure out your place." He nodded, smiling.

"Right now, though. I think you should just try to be a kid. What do you think? Want to play?"

Amaranta froze, be a kid, she barely knew the meaning of the word, her training was intense, she was always pitted in battles against her other siblings. There was never time to play, have fun or be a kid. She looked up and smiled at Rasasi, did he really have time to play? After all he was almost an adult in the pride, her mom being one of the only adult she knew well in the pride was her mother and her mother took work very seriously.

"Play?" she said quietly she didn't want to admit that she didn't really know any games, or rules to them ... there was rules t everything. "I suppose we could play.... What did you want to play?" she asked hoping that he would name a game so she didn't have to reveal her lack of knowledge.

He smiled, glad she was at least willing to give it a shot.

"Well, why not something simple? You could play it with your siblings if you want. Something like tag? Have you ever heard of that?" He didn't think she did, so he stood and padded around a bit, warming up his leg muscles and making a show of how he would need to be stretched out for the game.

Not that he was worried about losing to a little cub, but it never did any harm to show her how to play properly.

"All you have to do is pick who's going to start out as 'it'. Then the one, or ones, who aren't it have to run away. And the one that is 'it' chases them. If they tag them then the one who gets tagged is it."

He smiled. "It's really easy. I can be it first if you want."
