Ohmygosh. XD
I've been chewing this wad of gum in my mouth today. I decided that I wanted to make some hot cocoa, so I boiled some water, and poured the cocoa mixture in...
And then I decided to dip my wad of gum into the hot cocoa to see how hot it was.
But when I took it back out, the wad of gum felt all.. gooey. Like melted marshmallow consistency instead of rubbery gum.
I found out that it was dissolving... Okay, now I need to go test whether or not hot water dissolves gum or whether it was the cocoa mix alongside the hot water. I HAVE FOUND A NEW SCIENCE PROJECT. Shame it's the summer; This is great.
I read in Azumanga Daioh that if you chew gum and put chocolate in your mouth, the gum would melt, but I didn't really believe it. Now I need to find out whether it's the hot water that's melting the gum or the chocolate mix, or a mixture of both the water and the chocolate powder.
Sadly, I decided to dump out the cup of hot chocolate because I decided that there was no way I was drinking something that had melted gum in it. XD;; What a waste!
Any thoughts? Knowledge about this chemical reaction?
This science project was sprung from my whimsical stupidity. w00t!! (I probably won't do it though; I'm too lazy. XD)

I'VE TRIED THAT BEFORE!! But I dunno what's happening... But it must be the choco mix, since nothing happens with putting gum into tea...and if you eat chocolate while chewing, you can just as well spit it all out..

It's the "food" in the mix. Try chewing gum right after eating some kind of dry snack (chips, cookies, chocolate, etc). The gum will fill with the food bits and start to break down. It's not as bad as with the cocoa, but it still won't hold together very well. The heat also helps to further break down the gum. It should work with tea as well.

Hmm..well, you can drink tea while chewing, and keep your gum for a few days, but yes, it does demolish by heat, but not much. ... ...way to many commas in one sentence...
