Today mom and I were discussing how much manners have changed from her time to my time to kids today. It was a huge leap from her just my time to now a days.
We are moving so she has the house for sale. The responses she gets for the house just amaze me.
See both her and I were taught that when you send people letters or emails they should be very formal unless written to someone very close that that is acceptable with. Some of these people's responses just amaze me. They use slang and shorted. Don't even put their name in.
Honestly if I got a message like this, "hi can u hold house for me see soonest." I would have to ignore it.
So is it because people got lazy that formality rules have changed or is it because of all the technology? Perhaps a combination of both.
I miss understanding people.

Yeah, the tables have turned quite a bit. People often are thrown off by my formality. It's pretty shocking.

At the lonely end of the rink... I definitely would not answer that response if it was written in shorthand. I know that when my stepfather took college classes online and they had a class, a lot of people would write in shorthand. It really amazes me too. I always try and sound formal with things I type - on message boards, in texting, in IMing. Everywhere. ...you and me.

I would be shocked if I received an informal letter like that for a house. There are times when formal letters are necessary otherwise you won't be taken seriously. Manners are an art that are endangered.

I'm glad to know that I am not alone in this and some people still know how to communicate. Haha.
I have to be formal with my grandmother. I even have to send a thank you card for presents even if I call. So if she saw something like that, I'm sure she'd be giving them an English lesson.

At the lonely end of the rink... Mentioning thank you cards reminds me that I have to buy some for my best friend and one guy who sent me a scholarship. ...you and me.

I hate thank you cards. They're so redundant. Dx (Not to mention I hate writing them.)

At the lonely end of the rink... I write different things in blank ones depending on the person. Then again, it's hard for me to come up with anything. ...you and me.

With my grandma you have to write a lot more than just thank you. You have to say why your thankful and yada yada.

At the lonely end of the rink... I don't feel right if I just right 'thank you' so I always feel obligated to write more in a card. ...you and me.

Probably a good thing. Just a plain simple thank you would make the person feel like you just did it to be polite not because you wanted to or were really thankful.

I hate trying to think up what to write, especially when I don't know that person very well.

At the lonely end of the rink... Same here, Fortune. I just make up some random things just so that I have something to say. ...you and me.
