Once again he'd let himself drift off to sleep in the shade of a tree. It was really all he did in the hot season, sleep. He didn't particularly enjoy the heat or the fact that for some reason he attracted more heat onto himself. He was a winter child and it's what he always would be.

Opening his eyes with a long yawn he rose to his paws and stretched out, shaking the last dregs of heat-induced drowsiness from his eyes. He blinked when he realized he'd awoken in the night.

"Was I really asleep for so long...? No matter, the night is always a comfort."

Indeed, the only thing that made this season bearable is that there would always be a dark night when the sun set to comfort him and cool his body.

He was about to set off to look for a drink when he noticed a pale blue shape flit past through the trees in the distance. Blinking, he debated whether or not to investigate the oddity.

Aileena really hated when she did this. She always tried to time her turn to home so that she would arrive before dark and would spend the night safely in her cave, but apparently she had failed that task today, getting too caught up with herb hunting, and now it was after dark and she was stuck with trying to blindly bumble her way home.... Stopping abruptly as her paw hit yet another tree, she winced and hoped that she had at least managed to keep a hold of the pain reducing herb that she had tucked between her toes, she would likely need it in the morning.... Realizing that she must still be among the trees, she angled herself in a direction that she suspected was towards the open land, since the sounds of the forest were quieter that way. Not realizing it, she had also angled herself on a collision course with another night wanderer, but there was no way for the night blind female to realize this in the darkness....

Resuming her loping pass, she was relieved to not encounter any more trees in this direction, at least she still had some sense of location then. Her cave would be close, since it was south of the forest, but how to locate it from here.... Well, turning towards the mountains would be her best bet, and with the forest's location known, she had a pretty good chance of picking the mountains' location. So if everything went all right, she should be able to get close enough to pick up her scent marks to help herself home.... Unfortunately for Ailee, everything rarely went right, and suddenly finding an obstacle catching at her front foot, she lost her balanced and tumbled to the ground, wincing once again.

He was still debating whether or not to go see what the shape was when he saw it change direction. He froze when he realized it was coming in his direction.

'What do I do?' He thought to himself.

It was then that he saw the shape hit the ground. From his distance it looked to him like it was dropped in some sort of predatory manner. His heart beat began to speed up at the thought of being pursued by some violent specter.

Mist, that fall had really hurt.... Remaining in the position she had fallen, Ailee tried to right herself, but her paw was evidently stuck in the rabbit hole that it had landed in, and she cried out in pain as branches scrapped at her skin, "Ouch! Why does this always happen to me?" the female asked to the surrounding night, unaware that there was another creature within hearing distance. For the most part, she had stopped worrying about running into another hostile Saigh in the plains, but it was still a fairly foolish action, since it would alert anything predatory in the area that there was an injured individual nearby. Not actually listening to this logic that tumbled through her mind, the pale blue female tried to shift around to relieve the pressure on her toes, which were shoved into dirt at an awkward angle, but it only served to push her foot farther into the hole.

Not even being able to see the position that it was stuck in, Ailee was starting to lose hope that she would be able to get her foot out before morning. What she needed was someone who could see to direct her movements, but she had left her young charge in the cave she called home, and she was in too much pain to try to convince a stranger to wake up an assist her, even if there was someone within shouting distance. Sighing once more, small tears started coming to the female's eyes and she let out a little whimper at the idea of spending the night in such a painful and frighteningly exposed position....

He wasn't able to discern the words the creature was speaking, but he certainly heard the cries of fear and pain. Against his instincts he began to approach it. Suppose it were some kind of injured spirit. Would it harm him if he came to it's aid. He liked to think that it wouldn't. He stopped a short distance from it, close enough to see that it looked like a Saigh but not enough to see that it wasn't a ghost.

"Spirit! What ails you? Are you somehow hurt?"

Just as Aileena had been about to admit defeat and wait until morning to try to get herself out of the predicament, she heard a male's voice call out to her. Spirit? Was he talking to her? She wasn't a spirit! Against her better instincts to freeze and hope he left, the blue female called out, "I'm not a spirit! And yes, ow!" Wincing again at the shift in position she had unconsciously tried to shout better, the female realized that a male was approaching her and she had just admitted that she was injured, that was smart. Looking up to where she knew the mist hung, even though she couldn't see it, she glared and hoped that everything would be all right. Turning her pale blue eyes back towards the direction that she had heard the male's voice, she caught his scent now, and didn't detect any hostile scents from him. Perhaps this had been the blessing she had been hoping for....

Knowing that malicious spirits sometimes liked to fool their victims, he approached her slowly.

"What happened?"

Though Aileena should probably have been feeling pure terror at that moment, she was instead getting rather annoyed. Here she was in a terribly uncomfortable predicament and this male was going on about spirits and dawdling just a short distancea way. Could he not see that she was in pain and that her foot was obviously stuck? Rolling her eyes a bit, her tone, usually fairly timid, was dripping with her unmasked annoyance, "I was trying to get back to my den and my foot got stuck in a rabbit hole! Will you just help me??"

Hearing her turn he couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed at his caution. He couldn't help it though, he'd always been the superstitious sort. He sped up a bit and was next to her i moments, giving her awkward smile.

"I'm sorry about that. What can I do to help?"

Aileena had been getting to the point of simply telling the male to leave her alone so she could try and figure her own way out of the predicament without having to answer his stupid questions, but then finally he seemed to believe her and was by her side faster than she had been able to hear, so she was thrown a bit off guard. Sighing to vent some of her frustration and fear, the blue femme turned her blind eyes in the direction she suspected he was, "Can you see my paw in the hole?" Since she couldn't get a very good view of what was holding it in there, she didn't know how to get it out, but if he could see what angle she had gotten her foot stuck, hopefully that would help her ease it out instead of continuing to struggle.

He paused for a bit as he looked down. It wasn't hard to find the captured paw thankfully, her coloring making the task simple.

"Yes, I can."

He crouched down in front of her as he spoke in an attempt to see if there was any way to get it out without causing her too much extra pain.

Aileena let out a little sigh of relief that the male could see her paw all right. She knew that in theory any normal Saigh should have excellent night vision and be able to see easily, but she was not a normal Saigh, and her weak eyes were useless at this time of night. There had been a little part of her mind that had worried horribly that the other Saigh would be as blind as she was, leaving her in the same predicament she had been in, but fortunately, that was not the case.

"Good. So, can you see what it is getting stuck on? I've been trying to just pull it out, but there is something that keeps catching and I can't yank it out...." With any luck there would be some small pebble that kept pressing into her pads when she moved and he would be able to move it and pull her paw out without a worry..... With any luck that is.

As he crept closer he shifted from left to right, trying to get as full a view of her foot and the hole as he could. Feeling around with his paw he tapped around her her paw and as far into the hole as he could without touching her. After a few more moments he sucked in his breath sharply and looked up at her with slightly worried eyes.

"...It seems that when your foot got caught in here...you caved in the hole..."

Great, just great! She didn't just get her paw stuck in a whole, she also buried it, probably through her struggling fruitlessly before.... Shaking her head, a bit miserable from this whole situation, she sighed, "Well, can we try and dig it out? There is definitely some rocks or something keeping me from being able to pull it out...." She could feel something very solid, in fact, and so knew that it wasn't just dirt covering her paw, but that explained why neither of them had been able to figure out what was going on yet....

"I'll try my best..."

Without another word he extended his claws and began to dig around her paw, careful not to nick her with them.
