Iris would find herself aware that she was dreaming. Not that it made the pain any worse. her mane and tail were bound tightly to a metal pole in the ground, her hooves resting upon the brambles and brush that made up the fire pit. The fire pit that had just been lit.
Sholazar took a deep breath and settled down to watch. He would put some one in to save her pretty soon. Just after that .... *other* little girl..... he had to hear a little girl scream in terror. Had to or he would do something to try to make Honey Jade scream, but it was too early for that. Far too early in her story for that. So this one would scream. Then he'd send a hero. She better scream.

She did scream for him. She cried out in pain, and fear mixed in when she realized that there was a fire under her. Whimpering, she tried to blow the fire out by puffing at it vainly...

Villagers had surrounded her. all of them were demons, waving pitchforks and torches, calling her a monster. A truly horrific scene.
Sholazar smiled happily to himself, but then had to attend to other matters. Finally that brat Honey Jade was playing along with his plans, sort of. So he dropped in the hero and left the dream on Auto pilot. He would rewind to watch it later, and peek in when he could.
Dysis blinked as he found himself outside an odd demon town. Peculiar, he hadn't recalled wandering through Nightmare Valley. A familiar scent came to him on the wind. Familiar and comforting. The clean fresh scent of a rich fire. Following his nose he headed for it, then stopped. He smelled burning flesh... and burning hair. He broke into a run. Some one was hurt!
Dysis saw the circle of villagers first, and then the girl in the bonfire. His eyes dilated with fury and he spread his legs to brace himself. IT had been a long time since he had to put out such a large fire. He summoned up just the right amount of water to put out the fire, over it, and let go. It always broke his heart to douse a flame, but fire safety was crucial. Better no fire then some one hurt by the mouth of flames. He watched as the fire and the girl in it got drenched. Fire met water, water met fire and soon all that was left of either was steam. Steam and a damp baby tied to a stake at the center of the damp firewood.

One minute, Iris was screaming in fear and the next she was soaked. She didn't know what to do, was scared and in pain, so she did the only logical thing she could. She started bawling.

Sholazar twitched a bit. Okay, now he just felt like a bully. He made the villagers vanish.
Dysis raced over to the baby," are you okay?" he asked, hating the feeling of wet wood under hsi feet. but taking care of her was more important.

She continued crying. "Fire and hot and mean and scary and hurt and my hair and fire and so scared and....and....and..." she lapsed into incoherent crying agian.

He untied her as carefully as he could. "I'm sorry if this pulls some, but I need to get you free, okay?"

He works carefully, wincing on her behalf whenever he pulls. Finally he gets her free. "Are you okay?"

He nuzzled her gently, having no clue what to do with her. "I hope not."
