Wings beat strongly in the still air, the colors blurring rapidly like a distorted aurora. "Hm, not bad not bad." The stallion grinned at the efforts of his heavy wings, letting them slow to a stop and tucking them at his sides. Why, they hardly seemed fatigued after the long flight. What a damned useful appendage for traveling. And now? Time to quench his thirst of course. Tossing his pink fringe to the side, Soul made his way to the nearby lake he had spotted. It had looked fairly clean in flight, in any case, and had done well to make his tongue water. It had better taste as good as it looked. Reaching the placid lake, the dark male peered in hesitantly, ignoring his own quirked reflection. "Hmmm." Bright blue appeared at his side as the serpentine tail twisted by to dip in the liquid. Oh, nice and chilled as well. Finding himself satisfied, Soul finally bothered to actually lean down and taste the refreshment.

It was cooler here, preferable. The breezes off the water's surface kept her feeling relaxed in their familiarity. She could still remember her time as a filly at her mother's side. They were always near the water--when not traveling to another body of the stuff. She couldn't quite recall, but she was certain her mother must have had fins! Not that she had anything to complain about. Kailani'ki had become attached to shimmering waters of all sorts in so many ways and was hardly bothered by it. If only she had taught her son the same. Now that he was grown and off exploring, she was beginning to feel a bit lonely. Ah well, he would be back.

Dipping her nose to the surface, she stared into the lake, watching for signs of fish beneath the surface. There was no doubt she looked childish, but the sliver of silver that passed by her vision now and then was enough to distract her from the fact. It wasn't until something quite different was reflected across the sunlit surface that she moved again. Slowly rising, she peered through a particularly crowded bunch of tall reeds at the stallion that had stopped to consider the water.

Ugh, what was this now? Furrowing his brows, the stallion sighed as he lifted his head. Hn, the ripples weren't caused by his own tail, now whipping around wildly near his flank. Ah, so did that mean someone was near? Smirking to himself, Soul tread back and away from the water's edge, neck craning up to view his surroundings with more interest. Just what in the seven hells was that pink blob over there? "Hey you, stop spoilin' the waters. It cuts my concentration." As if that's all the world revolved around, and Soul snuffed out loudly to firmly prove his seriousness. Honestly, what was that soquili thinking, distorting his reflection? He ought to tear those pretty feathers off this instant! But no, too much effort to do so. Huffing, Soul lashed his tail to the ground. "And who told you to stare? To Shame!"

Surprise etched itself across the female's features. The reeds had not been tall enough to hide her, not that she expected they would. And it's not like she was trying to hide. However, she certainly hadn't expected the hostile reception. Spoiling the waters? She didn't understand. "I'm sorry?" was her automatic response, obviously laced with more question than apology. Unknowing, she tossed her head, flipping those very same feathers through her mane to rest on the other side of her neck. Her expression shifted to some sort of attempted gentleness, her normal look. "I'm sorry to stare," she told him, this time without the questioning edge. "I was just curious what was reflected in the water." Really, had she even been looking his way that long?
