Occasionally, when playing a game of D&D, or reading a book, or even within this guild, you may come across a term or acronym that you are unfamiliar with. This sticky is meant to help people identify terms, as well as suggest acronyms for others to use in order to make a game go, perhaps, just a bit faster, so as to level more. 3nodding

You may post acronyms or terms that you use in game for me to add to this list, or ask me to clarify the meaning of any unfamiliar term I've used anywhere in this subforum.

Terminology

Ability Scores - The most important stats for a D&D character, they play a role in determining almost every other detail of your character.
Hit Points - A basic to most RPGs, Hit Points help determine how easy it is to disable or kill your character. Having more usually helps.
Saving Throws - These numbers are used to determine how well your character can resist the effects of magic, poisons, and sometimes avoid damage.
Armour Class - A measure of how hard your character is to hit.
Base Attack Bonus - A measure of how easily your character target things and not miss.
Alignment - The nature of your character. There are two axes to a D&D alignment - chaos/law, and good/evil. Neutrality lies in the middle, and is also an option.
System Reference Documents - A document (usually a website or PDF) which contains an outline of information which has been copyrighted. In this case, SRDs usually contain information from the three core rulebooks for Dungeons and Dragons.
Home Rules - Variant rules not built into the original game that a group of players and their DM have decided upon.
