Janan slunk through the underbrush near the temple she'd claimed as her home, growing irritable. There was no good prey available within the distance she was comfortable in, and she didn't want to leave her home open to be claimed by someone else - she was still too vulnerable.
The young Alpha had been kicked out of her last pack after losing a battle, and many of her wounds had yet to heal. Because of it, she was nervous, skittish, and easily frustrated. The heat wasn't helping either. Usually a welcome comfort, she now found it oppressive, and hateful as it encouraged flies to group around her open wounds. She snapped at several of those now, then hunkered down in the brush, letting out a low whine. She had to choose; eat, or risk losing her new home.

"Hmmm?" What do we have here?" Came a voice from somewhere above her. There, resting in the slop of two branches in a high tree sat a blue Alpha, his tail swishing lazily back and forth, tongue lolled out in a laugh.

Instantly, she was up on her feet, fur bristling as she looked up at him. A growl forced itself from her throat before she could choke it back. Think girl, think! He was bigger than her - she couldn't afford a confrontation right now! "What do you want?" she asked, a bit waspishly. He was laughing at her, she was sure of it, and she didn't really appreciate it at all.

"I like trees," the Alpha said in response, seemingly from a tangent as he looked down at her. "I like being high up off the ground. I like the jungle for that reason. What do YOU like about the jungle?" Piercing blue eyes full of intelligence focused on her.

He was a little cracked, she thought. Smart maybe, but probably mad-brained from the heat. What did she like about the jungle indeed. "I like the food." she ground out, tail whipping behind in an annoyed gesture, almost catlike. "I'm glad to hear that you like being high off the ground and you've found a place where you can be that way. Now, if you'll excuse me..." She turned and limped off a few steps, back towards her new home - it had steps leading up to the sky - what if he had his eye on it?!

However, he was blocking her path upward, sitting on his haunches now before her. He must have movied VERY fast. Again, his tongue was lolling out the side of his mouth in that silent laughter of their kind. "Food is good anywhere," he said cheerfully.

She cringed backward slightly. She was definitely no match for him at the moment. Speed was her usual weapon, and she wasn't sure she was a match for him even at her best. "What do you want?" she burst out in a loud growl, glaring up at him. "I'm trying to get back to my shelter, you rude brute."

More silent laughter. "Looks like you're in a bit of a rough spot," he said after a few moments as he stood up, looming over her. He was definitely bigger, that much was certain as he padded towards her.

Again, there was a momentary flinch back - he was so big! - but then she took a firm stance, still glaring at him. "I am not." she lied. "I'm doing just fine, thank you, and I'll thank you to keep your abnormally long nose out of my business you... you... you."

"What if I had a proposition for you?" he asked as he paced around her. "You never did answer my question by the way... Oh well." He studied her intently as he moved.

She shivered as she felt him study her, swiveling her head to keep him in her sights at all times, refusing to move her whole body. However, her legs had begun to tremble in fear. What did he want of her? What was he going to suggest? "What kind of proposition?" she asked carefully. "And what question didn't I answer?"

The big Alpha stopped suddenly and smelled the air. "Mmm, you get that?" he asked suddenly. "There's prey nearby!" He looked about, then his tongue lolled out once more. "Why you like the jungle. Your answer was dumb. I didn't like it because it wasn't what you really like." He turned away. "Don't move! I'll be back in a few!"

She snarled. "This is my territory. It's my prey." she told him, stepping forward... then yelped as her left hind leg gave out. She went to the ground, then looked away, embarrassed to have shown weakness. "Nevermind. It's yours." she muttered.

He returned a few minutes later, a big furry creature caught between his jaws, it's neck broken. He padded over to where she lay and then threw it down on the ground before her, panting. "We share!" he said.

She blinked, startled, then looked up at him, mouth hanging open in shock. "Who... are you?" she finally asked, sounding a bit nicer than she had earlier. The prospect of a meal - a good, solid meal like she hadn't had in days - had softened the edge of her temper.
