1. Enter Kogami, Enter Akito!Glancing ‘round the room nervously, Kogami didn’t know what too think. She sat in her desk, huddling like a frightened bunny. Her eyes flicked about, here and there, surveying the room. High school wasn’t s’posed to be this busy, was it…? I mean, there are all sorts of rumors about bullies, classes, and such, but there shouldn’t be this many people…! Kogami Hanacha wasn’t much of a people person, and was claustrophobic from time to time. Suddenly, the room was spinning, and she felt hot. She squeezed her eyes shut, as more and more people began to file into the already crowded room. Please, she begged, please make it go away….!
“Hey, you ok…?” Kogami cracked open one eye, to see another girl standing before her. Her hair was cropped short, and she had a small cut on her left cheek. She wasn’t wearing the usual, school issued ribbon, and didn’t seem to care, either. When Kogami looked up, she cracked a grin. “I’m Akito, Akito Gakeha. You?” she asked, still grinning.
“K-Kogami Hanacha….” She murmered, still a tad frightened.
The grin was gone. “Somethin’ up? Can I help….?” She asked, leaning in to see her eye to eye.
Kogami cringed, a little uncomfortable to have someone so close. “T-too many…people…” she stammered, squeezing her eyes shut again.
“Oh, that’s it?” Akito said, grinning. She then waved a few of the people off, shooing them away. Kogami exhaled, relieved to not be quite so crowded. “There.” Akito said to herself, placing her hands on her hips triumphantly. “Better…?” she asked, turning her smile to Kogami.
“Much. Thank you kindly, Miss Akito.” She said, smiling a small, warm smile. Caught off guard, Akito stumbled a bit, her face a little shocked, before she burst into a smile.
“There’s that smile!” she said, toying with Kogami’s bangs. “I was wonderin’ where it was!” she said, grinning mischievously. She glanced up at the clock. “Better take my seat. Talk to you after class!” she said, bouncing off to the back room.
Maybe this new school wouldn’t be so bad after all.
* * *
“So! What are all your classes?” Akito asked, standing next to Kogami’s locker, her own books in hand.
“Umm, I don’t know, I’m just following the print-out schedule, aheh…” she said timidly.
“Well, lemme see whatcha got, and I’ll see if you and I have any other classes together.” Akito said, pulling out her own schedule.
“O-ok…” she said, shakily retrieving her schedule from her binder. She held it up to her, waiting to have it snatched away, like it always is.
“Thanks…” Akito said, gently taking it from her hand. She ;lifted up to eye level examining them both.
Ah? She didn’t grab it out of my hands…? Kogami blushed slightly, and, realizing this, turned away, embarrassed.
“Ah-HAH!” Akito exclaimed, thumping the paper. “We have homeroom, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh together! Awesome, I’ve barely got any classes with my other friends, so at least I’ll see you a lot!” Akito grinned that mischievous grin, before turning away at the sound of the bell. “See ya in third!” she called out, rushing off in the direction of her next class.
“Ah, y-yeah…” Kogami murmured, a little too late. See you in third period…

2. Enter Daichi! Confusion in the Classroom!Kogami glanced up at the clock. It had become instinctual, after having spent an un-eventful week at Ayashi High on a single schedule. She was grateful she wasn’t one of the many that had moved homerooms to accommodate their teacher’s needs, when teaching, that is. Kogami sighed, impatient. Next period was sixth, and she could spend some time with Akito… Her heart fluttered at the thought, but, startled, she tried to calm herself down. She’d been battling with an inner turmoil the past week, as well. There were two things that bothered her; A) Why was she always so calm around Akito-san, when she was jittery around everyone else. That was far from the norm for her. And B) Who was the mystery person in all of her classes that was missing? There was always an empty seat near her, but they never arrived. At least, not until Tuesday. Yes, Tuesday, the one and only infamous second day of the school week.
* * *
“Sorry I’m late!” a boy gasped, bursting into second period. Kogami jumped at the loud crash, and her gaze wandered to the door, where the boy was hanging off the door handle, clearly exhausted. “Aheheh, heh, hoo-boy, guess I’ve got a lot of explainin’ to do, huh…?” he asked nervously, straightening himself. He quickly bounced over to the teacher, handing him a note and whispering a few curt words in his ear. The teacher nodded solemnly, and pointed to the empty desk situated in front of Kogami. So that’s him! I was beginning to worry about his physical, or, as the case may be, mental state… The boy grinned, then shuffled over and collapsed in his desk. Sweat dribbled down the side of his face, and he wiped it away with his sleeve. He had short, black hair, but bright blue eyes. He smiled a warm smile. “I’m Daichi. What’s your name?” he asked happily.
“Ah, I’m K-Kogami… Hanacha Kogami…” she stammered, shifting her weight uncomfortably. Her face tinted a slight pink, not used to the attention.
“Awesome! What classes d—“ “Mr. Hadeki, I can understand being new, and not understanding the rules, but please refrain from ‘chit-chat’ until class is dismissed.” Kagehi-sensei said curtly, before turning back to the board.
Daichi whipped around, and muttered a short “Yessir…” before falling into silence the rest of class.
* * *
“Hey! So, back to where we were, what classes do you have…?” Daichi asked, bounding up to Kogami as he snagged her, almost out the door.
“Umm, I’m not all that good with remembering…” she murmured, hand already on her schedule. “You can take a look if you like…” she said, handing it to him.
“Awesome, thanks!” he said, carefully taking it from her. Reviewing the paper, his eyes grew wide. “Y-you have all the same classes as me!” he exclaimed, clearly excited. “Well, except for electives, that is. But this is awesome, I can’t believe I’m that lucky at a new school in a new town already!” he said, thrusting the paper back at her. “I gotta get to class, see ya later!” he said, waving to her as he rushed off to his class.
“Sure….” she said, waving slightly in his direction as well, stunned.
“He sure was energetic. And who was that, Kogami…?” Akito asked, tapping her on the back of the head.
She spun around, and released her breath, relieved it was just Akito. “His name is Daichi. He’s in all of my classes…” she said, sighing.
Akito dissected her expression, then leaned down and looked her in the eye. “He aint botherin’ you or nuthin’, is he…?” she asked, a concerned look on her face.
“Ah, no, no, not at all. I’m just not used to being the person of interest to others…” she said, turning away, her face slightly red.
Akito stared at her a few moments more, before straightening, her smile returned. “If ya say so, I guess,” she said, smiling.
* * *
“Hello, my name is Daichi Hadeki. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to come to school the past week, but I’m glad to be here now!” he said energetically, introducing himself, standing in the front of the classroom. He bowed to the class, then took his seat behind Kogami, Akito next to her. Daichi glanced at Akito, and waved in a friendly matter, smiling. Akito smiled a short smile, and nodded her head to notify him that she’d noticed his kind gesture. Daichi turned to Kogami, and smiled a wide smile, before taking his seat.
Class seemed to crawl by for poor Kogami. Argh, I can’t wait to get out of here…. She glanced up at the clock, again, before turning back to face the blackboard. She suddenly sat upright. Wait a sec, didn’t that just say…? She glanced back up at the clock, and sure enough, it had gone back a minute. Instead of moving forward, it’s going back…. Argh, at this rate, we’ll never get out of class…! She timidly raised her hand, hoping to get the teacher’s attention, but he continued on without noticing her. Akito glanced at her, and grabbed her arm, thrusting her arm into the air. The teacher glanced up from his textbook.
“Yes, Miss Kogami…?” he inquired.
“Uh, umm… the clock, it’s moving backwards, instead of…forwards….” She squirmed, the entire class’s gaze turned towards here.
“That’s preposterous, I mean, a few minutes ago, it was nine forty-two, and now—“ he cut off, staring at the clock. It now read nine thirty-six. “Wha-? But, that’s im-impossible…!” he stammered, taking his glasses off and wiping them on his sweater vest. Sure enough, it still read nine thirty-six. Everyone’s gaze was turned to the clock now, and watched in astonishment as it slowly ticked back to nine thirty-five. “Well, I’ll be….” The teacher took down the clock, examined it, and deemed there was nothing visibly wrong with it. Everyone was crowded around him now, except Kogami, Akito, and a few others. Daichi was making his way over, when Akito called his name.
“Let’s wait a sec.” she said, resting her hand on Kogami’s hand.
“B-but…!” he protested, turning to the crowd, then back to Akito and Kogami. “Fine….” He complained shuffling back over. The three watched, as they dissected it, examining the inner workings. The teacher lifted it up, revealing the front to the others, when—
“Holy, it’s still ticking…!” someone exclaimed from the crowd. They immediately turned it over, and, sure enough, the hand was still making it’s way backwards in a circle. Now there was a bit of a commotion.
Akito decided it best to go get some help, so she made her way to the door, and tried to open it. “Errgh, um, Sensei, the door won’t budge…” she said, struggling with the handle.
Now Daich got up, rushing over to help Akito. Together, the pulled with all their might, but it still refused to budge. Daichi dashed over to the windows, and none of them would open either. He chuckled nervously, a little scared.
Kogami watched all this from the sidelines, eyes wide, taking it all in, like a giant sponge. She suddenly stood from her seat, and slipped between the people, and moved in next to the teacher. She examined it, and asked him to hold it up. He did, and as she brushed her hand across the surface, it froze. Everyone was silent. She paused, thinking, then brushed her hand back across in the other direction.
Everything jolted back into motion. The windows and door opened, and the clock began to slowly tick tock back to it’s usual direction. Everyone stared at Kogami. “H-how’d you do that…?” Daichi asked incredulously.
“I… I don’t know…”

3. Enter Kagehito-sensei! Is he really a teacher?!Everyone was bustling about homeroom. Kogami sat quietly in her desk, watching the commotion with bug-eyes, as Daichi chatted away happily about... well, whatever he was chatting away about. "... I can't wait to see 'im! What do you think, Kogami-chan?" he asked, grinning. "Ah? Er, s-sure..." she mumbled quietly, sinking in her chair. Akito laughed. "Ahahah, guess that means you're conversation isn't enough to keep even Kogami's attention!" she taunted, snickering. "Oi, I'm sure she had an aplicable reason for letting her mind wander..." he threw back. "Oh, sure. So tell me, Kogami, why were you letting your mind wander...?" Akito asked sarcastically, leaning in. Kogami snapped back to reality. "Eh? Ah, s-sure..." she mumbled, turning back to her thoughts. This time, it was Daichi who laughed. "Aheheh, 'guess that means your conversation isn't enough to keep even Kogami's attention!' " He jeered, rolling back on his heels. Akito grumbled, then punched him in the arm, smirking. "Ow! Oi, why you...!!" he began threateningly. " 'You' what?" she taunted back.
"In. Your. Seats." a deep voice boomed from the doorway. The class froze, then scrambled to fill the rows. A large, bulking figure loomed over the doorway, their greasy, black, wavy hair falling below their shoulders. A man stepped forward, wearing a brown trench coat, a black tank top, and worn jeans. He had on a hat similar to what you'd expect from an old westen, and a large, black band-style eye patch. He had grey stubble, and a book tucked away to his right side. He lumbered over to the desk, and let the book fall to it with a thud. He whipped around to the chalk boar, and rooughly etched some words on it with the chalk. He then turned to the class. "I am Kagehito-sensei. Your former Homeroom teacher, Kaito-sensei, will be taking leave for the rest of the semester, possibly even the rest of the year. Therfore, I will be your substitute until that time." he boomed, his voice grainy and rough, yet deep and foreboding. His eye swept across, surveying each face, before it came to rest on the trembling Kogami. "You, girl. Your name." he barked. "...K-Kogami..." she said weakly, bowing her head. "Kogami, then. You and two others, pass out these text books." he said, guesturing to the door. A man then came in with a large cart, full of text books. Kogami nearly fell out of her desk. She turned to Akito and Daichi, a pleading look on her face. Daichi nodded solemnly, and Akito gave her a weak thumbs up. Together, the three made their way to the door, and scrambled to divide the books and pass them out.
Kagehito kept his eyes on Kogami the entire time, watching and disecting her every move. She shivered at the feeling of eyes on her back, but shook it off, and continued to pass out text books. Once they were finished, the three of them took their seats, relieved. Kagehito reviewed the faces once more, before declaring they had to introduce themselves. They made their way through the class, revisiting Kogami, and introducing Akito and Daichi in the process. Once pleased, Kagehito raised his hand. A few students cowered, afraid he'd slam it on the desk. He suddenly pointed. "Kogami. Akito. Daichi. Stay after class." They exchanged frightened glances before mumbling a curt, "Yessir."
* * *
"I've been watching you." Kagehito stated bluntly. That was kind of obvious... Kogami thought to herself. "I want to nominate you three for a competition. Only one can compete. It is up to you to decide who will participate." And with that, he left.
