I admit it. I suck. I've been playing trumpet since 5th grade. Now i'm a junior and I still cant hit high notes, have a crap endurance level, and I make freshmen look good. xd

Tips, anyone? sweatdrop

This is only my 4th year playing and I can't get high notes... But my BD says that as long as you keep working and improving the tone of your low notes, the high ones should come naturally.

As for endurance, try to practice every day if you don't already do so. If you don't have the time to actually practice, buzz every day. Buzz when you're doing your HW, walking home from school, getting a drive somewhere, during the commercials, etc...
(my endurance level isn't that great 'cause I'm always stuck playing the high notes that I suck at and have to strain to get at.)

Ummm... practice. That's about all I can say for you.

Long notes. Low notes.

And practice. That's really all I can say.

Wait, scratch that. There is one really, really important thing that I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet.

Posture. If you're all collapsed in on yourself, your lungs can't expand, and it's impossible to get any sort of decent range. Sit up straight and keep your elbows out (instead of resting on your chest), and you'll be amazed at the difference in the sound.

Try breathing from your stomach, you can get more air that way If you don't already do so, that might help.

Everyone's face is different so for some people high notes are easy but for other people, like you and me, high notes are a challenge.

Low notes are always VERY important... There's some kind of physics-y explanation that my BD has for it that goes WAY over my head... sweatdrop Something about the over-tones and how all your high notes are contained in your low notes.

But from what I understand, working on your low notes will enhance? your muscles and force you to work on proper breathing, posture, etc to get them to sound nice (and in tune...). And then very gradually, you will "discover" high notes that you couldn't play before. sweatdrop

Don't try and pinch. It'll only make it all the harder to play the high notes. Use more air and push from your diaphram. I've been playing for only 3 years and I am able to hit a number of high notes.

I've been playing for a little over three years and I can only get up to A right above the staff on a good day. E or F on a "normal" day.

What about you?

Oh wow...forgot to check this post xd
Anyway, I'd like to rejuvinate it. It seems useful. 3nodding
I can usually get to a G at the beginning of class. By the end, E or F. On a bad day, D. xd On a really good day, a B (above staff) 3nodding

On a good day I can play a high C and even sometimes the D above that. But on a normal day a high G or A. This is my third year, next school year will be my fourth year playing.

This is my 3rd year playing the trumpet and i'm a freshman in high school. I'm pretty good which is what people tell me. If you're trying to get a better tone all you have to do is spread out your lips more in the mouthpiece. For a higher sound put a little more pressure on your lips tighten corners and blow. Believe me i can play the F over the high C and i'm only a freshman.

I can usually get to a high C but I usually don't need to, only time i find it useful is when me and my friend tune off that note.....It's kinda fun XD
On a bad day I can usually get to an F maybe a G but thats about it ><

I am going on my 3rd year of trumpeting. (there was much rejoicing...yay...) Anyways, from my little experience, one of the best things to do is to practice playing low notes (think bass clef) and the more you play them, the easier it will be to play higher notes. I can play all they way down to a C at least 6 ledger lines below the scale (most days) and can play to the high C above the staff. Average time spet practicing a week: .01 hours a day. Yep, that's me! cool
