The thing Lena Powell could not understand about her daughter was how someone so delusional could not delude herself into thinking she was a princess.

She was the type, Lena thought, who seemed to want to be a princess, but something in the Takoyaki rebelled against the notion, some sense of class structure. At the most, Koko referred to herself as a heroine or a lady. Never a princess. And as for handsome princes, more than once she had explained how she wanted none of them, as they were above her in the social order. It seemed to Lena to be an exercise in pointlessness. If Koko was going to be delusional, she might as well delude herself into thinking she was royalty. What kind of delusional person put limits on their fantasies?

Apparently Koko did. The novelist's gaze slid to the end of the restaurant counter, where the Gogo was spreading out a napkin to have a proper picnic. If she wasn't a princess, what DID princesses act like?

Sally was sitting next to a salt shaker, just daydreaming about things. Nothing really in particular. She wasn't really prone to things like this, but just did it anyway.

She heard a noise, which broke her from the dream, and saw a teen gogo laying out a napkin. The ferment waddled over to the teen and smiled, "Hello, what, may I ask, are you doing?" Sally had met the girl when she was a ferment and they were playing tag, but Sally didn't recognize her now.

Koko looked up and smiled at the ferment. "Why hello, my friend! it has been too long, yes, far too long!" She hadn't seen the other gogo for ages, not since she was still fairly foodlike, and now that she was a proper (albeit short) lady, she was doubly thrilled to meet an old acquaintance. "Do you remember me? Oh, it has been a while!" Patting on an area next to her on the napkin, she said "I was just about to sit down to a picnic. Please do join me."

With a ladylike intuition, the takoyaki sought to remember the salmon's name. Presently, her brow cleared and she exclaimed "Sally! That's your name, correct? Oh, I do hope I'm not mistaking you for someone else."

Sally wobbled over and smiled, "Yes, I think so." She didn't want the girl to know she didn't. She sat on the napkin and smiled, "It's very nice to see you again." She would figure it out, she knew that.

"Yes, I'm Sally." She had to have met this girl, but she only knew ferments. Oh, then she must have grown! "You have grown up, Koko." She said with a nod. She was a pretty teen. "What do you have for your picnic?"

"Oh, all sorts of things! I have bread and lemonade, and well, it's a little hard to drink, but I have a long straw. And I have cucumbers and watermelon and crackers, too!" Koko let out a contented sigh. "I love picnics, don't you? They're so charming, simply charming!" She was using the kind of voice that suggested she was about to break into a musical montage, but Lena gave her a Look, and she recollected herself. "Anyway," she said, clearly thrown off by trying to refrain from bursting into song, "Please do join me! Would you like anything? I have plenty for everyone, especially dear, dear friends such as you... You, uh..."

It dawned on Koko that she could not remember her dear, dear friend's name. But ladies and heroines never forgot names! She couldn't possibly admit to it. Quickly improvising, she said "...You wonderful person." and simpered at her simperingly to disguise her confusion.

Sally wobbled over and sat down. "It sounds really yummy." Sally looked around at everything. She smiled and nodded, well seeing how she didn't have a neck her whole body kinda nodded.

"Yes, this does seem rather charming. Can I get some watermelon?" She thought that sounded the most appetizing. "You're wonderful too?" She smiled and kind of giggled, that was a bit of an odd statement.

"Why, of course!" Koko exclaimed, giving Sally a generous chunk and a prim white linen napkin. "I adore watermelon, but it's awfully messy. Ever since I became a teenager, I have to be ever so careful not to mess up my dress." She gave a brief pout, but it was a pretty dress, and so she brightened up, adding "When you become a teenager, you can have some of my dresses! My mother took me shopping, I have lots of dresses." Looking down at the one she grew up in, she added, "This is my nicest though. Doll clothes are terribly itchy."

She paused to think about what else ladies talked about. Clothes? Check. Picnics? Check. The gears in her head turned, and presently she clapped her hands together with an "Oh," adding, "How are you this fine day?"

Sally looked at the dress and agreed it was very pretty. "That is a lovely dress. I can? That is so nice of you!" She smiled and wondered what it would be like to wear a dress or be older...but she didn't dwell on it long.

Sally took a bite of the watermelon, "This is very nice. I'm doing well, how about you?" She wasn't sure if that came out proper enough, but she was trying. She wasn't used to being this way, but it was fun.

"Of course you can!" Koko said eagerly. Giving her old clothes to people was fun, almost like she had a little sister! She then remembered that it was always the youngest sibling who got the happy ending in fairytales and romance novels, so she hastily amended that thought to a very short older sister. It was a close save.

"Oh, I'm wonderful." Koko sighed dreamily. "The other day I was trying to escape my mother because she became an evil stepmother, but she got better later, but she was an evil stepmother, so I climbed out the window and onto the lawn!" This seemed more terrifying and dangerous than thrilling, especially if one was only the height of a pair of chopsticks, but she continued, "And it was ever so frightening, but then a bold adventurer appeared and saved me! He was quite dashing." She put a hand to her cheek and looked off into the distance dreamily.

"Oh!" waving her hands, she added, "But I should be far more discreet about such things, I'm so terribly sorry! You must think I'm awfully bold."

Sally listened to Koko's story and smiled, "Wow, that is such an exciting story. Not too bold at all." Although Sally didn't know what that meant. Her life sounded so fun and exciting...Sally almost thought her's as boring, but didn't mind.

"So, who was this dashing savior?" She hoped that wasn't too bold to ask. But, she was a bit sucked into the story now and had to know how it turned out!

Koko smiled so widely her face my burst. It was clear that she had wanted Sally to ask that question very badly. "Well, his name was Sir Kohi Jutsune, and he was an official, honest to goodness, sir-in-front-of-his-real-name adventurer! And he lives nearby me and he said he rescued people all the time, which I could tell because he was ever so good at it, but I think he must have rescued me better than everyone else he rescues, too. He just did it so well!"

Remembering herself, she blushed and smoothed out her dress. "Of course, he's very, very busy, so I'll probably never see him again and such, but it was awfully nice." She bit her lip a bit wistfully, and asked "Have you ever been rescued, Sally?" looking up at the other Gogo as she did so.

Sally smiled as she listened. What a nice story. It was obvious that Sir Kohi had made a lasting impression on Koko. It was really so sweet. It made her think about the question long and hard.

"No, I don't think so. I think I would remember." She smiled, as it didn't bother her much, she hadn't needed saving. "It sounds lovely though. If I need saving I hope someone like him does it."
