so, i bought my first doll, and was SOOOO excited to post pics of her on DoA and show her off, when it happened -
"Your doll is not considered a BJD, but an off topic doll. we're sorry."
so, i want your opinion - do you guys on gaia agree with the Den Of Angels strict on topic/off topic doll rules?

my doll is a Goodreau MSD doll -

Honestly speaking , the joints on your doll (went and looked up other pics) are really very similar , if not identical to some of the dolls I have seen on DoA. So Im not really sure what thier problem is . Its not like shes a Barbie , or and American Girl doll or something way off not even part of the same world.
So in my opinion no , I dont reallyu agree with them in this particular situation. Esspecially if people can go on there and make tier own dolls and as long as they have a singular joint being "ball" then they are okay.
Most bjds now a days arent realls "Ball" joined dolls as the term was used even 15 years ago anyhow.

What is she made from? If she's not made from resin that's probably why. Other than that if she has joints and is articulate then I don't see why.

Are goodreaus not a mix of vinyl and Resin? And i think it had something to do with the fact that they aren't asian, since it's an american company. It's a 'western bjd' they say.

hmmm...good points made. she is indeed vinyl/resin mix, but i don't see what the comotion is. ok, so they a slightly different materiel. big whoop.

yeah i guess your right, being "western" and all...but it is pretty much the same, only slightly different in look...

I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that they're not asian made. After all a lot of people who make their own dolls aren't asian nor do they have asian companies. It's probably due to the fact that she's not fully made from resin. I know that's why some of the dolls are off topic on DOA.

But as long as she has 'ball joints' of some sort she's allowed here ^^ I'm not as picky

to be honest, the logic that surrounds most of DoA's decisions completely eludes most members of the forum. and they change their minds all the time, like with the Dollmore Lusion Dahlia.

The doll was "off-topic" on DoA because it looked like a small child. Big whoop. She's made of resin and from an asian company, so why place her as "off-topic" for a few months until the Dahlia owners complain about not being able to put their photographs up?

I personally would love the LE Thistle Dahlia. It's gorgoeus and worth every penny. Though she'll be like $2000 here.... *whine*

If alot of people crafted dolls that look like crap, I'd ban art-dolls from DoA, but it's the community where you need to be nice to eachother or else you get kicked in the face.

I personally don't get doll owners who don't give their dollies a good name. Heh, it's like naming your own child "Internet" because you love the internet.

I'm saving up for a character doll (who will be spoiled like crazy), and he'll only cost me like $230 w/o the S&H. Quite a few of my dollies will be character dolls, but, I gave all of them pretty names. Though MOST of my character dollies will be from my unfinished novel. And I don't even own a dollie yet... But I'm over half-way there for my first one! ^_^v

Sorry if I ranted a little too much or you can't follow my train of thought... ^_^;; I tend to get off-topic lot.

I'm not sure why she is not allowed either. O_o; The only thing I could guess is she isn't entirely resin...

The reason that Goodreau's are off-topic dolls is their facial features. The exact reasoning taken from DoA is right here:

"Rationale: These dolls do not fit the Asian aesthetic of the other dolls that are on Den of Angels. Their heavier, more angular features are reminiscent of a classic porcelain doll or an American Girl or Cissy doll. Some editions are cast in vinyl. (Note: This applies only to the initial series of Goodreau dolls and the Tinies; future editions will be evaluated separately because they will be sculpted by a different artist)."

There's an entire thread in the rules section explaining what dolls are considered off-topic and why.

I have read the section before I just don't agree with them on a feeeew points. Most I understand but some are just illogical.

Some of dolls that ARE allowed do NOT look asian. Bobobie Apollo for one. He's very American looking. I can understand being iffy on anthro dolls but if they're going to not allow dolls that don't look asian there are a lot that should be disallowed.

I CAN understand the reason for vinyl but that's because DOA is for Resin dolls.

Are Dollfie Dreams allowed, though? They're made of vinyl. Obitsu are vinyl too, aren't they?

I don't think that they're trying to say "this doll doesn't look Asian enough," I think what they're saying is that some dolls look too similar to American fashion dolls that already exist. Goodreaus, for example, really look like how "classic" porcelain dolls look... Honestly though I think that's because of the default faceups those dolls have. A lot of dolls would look that way if given a faceup like that.

Original Dollfie Dreams aren't. Not sure about the new ones. I know that Obitsus aren't unless they're the 60cm obitsus. At least that's the impression I got. I think new dollfie dreams are though. It's confusing.

And I agree. If the dolls were given any other faceup they would look different.
