Even a day later, Alanna couldn't stop playing what had been HER first standing through her head... Ahhhh! It had all been really exciting, actually. But as expected, having made a bad impression on the girls she roomed with none of them wanted to talk about it with her -- but that was fine by her. She'd instead been able to mull about that angry queen and the brown in her head allll day.

Not to say that the image of those angry eyes flashing through her head didn't remind her of how badly her hands had shaken the entire time, even after she'd willed them to stop. Sure she'd composed herself after a momentary panic (and who could blame her for it?) but still she was embarrassed by having been frightened by a CHARGING DRAGON that hadn't even grazed her.

That's a normal reaction though, isn't it?

Wasn't it? She'd never actually seen any standings before it was her turn to be thrust out into the sands to play monkey-see monkey-do. But alas, nothing she could do about it now, looking back on it.

But that didn't make picking at her breakfast any easier -- part of her didn't even have an appetite anymore. Did the new-riders need to go out soon to feed their dragons? Ahhh!

Faranth forbid she was able to recompose the 'shell' properly anytime soon.

Yes... yes the new-riders needed to go feed their dragons soon, but not this very second, at least. Ferris hadn't meant to wander into the dining place -- it was habit at this time of day -- but now that her and Hwinth were there, well, might as well stick around for a few minutes? Not to eat, of course, but maybe to have a quick chat? Everything was still too crazy to even think about having an appetite. ...Though things weren't about just her anymore, were they?

"Hwinth, would you like to stick here for a few minutes? Or we could continue on," Ferris asked the splotched green at her side.

We can stay for a little bit, Ferrismine. It's okay. Meandering about in the dining place had certainly not been apart of that morning's plan, but... well, it didn't bother the little green all that much. She wasn't a pushy dragon, even though she was a little hungry... and itchy.

The little dragon paused in her step to rub her nose against a forelimb, flaring her wings slightly for balance before giving a skip to catch-up with Hers.

"You could have asked me to scratch you, you know..." the young woman replied steadily. But Hwinth denied a response and just continued on, the statement not all too needy of an actual reply. Ferris seemed okay with that, and went on looking about for a face that did need to talking to.

It was then that she spotted Alanna picking away at her food.

"Hey there!" Ferris called, picking up her pace as she did so. Hwinth tilted her head for a moment, then followed some-what readily.

Alanna had immediately frozen up at the voice over her shoulder (and if she'd been in a Miyazaki film, her hair would have prickled as well) sudden called to her, peering over her shoulder with wide eyes and a frown. Well crap -- last meeting she'd had in this very room while food was up for a debate had earned her an enemy, so part of Alanna was just tempted to not answer and act as though she hadn't noticed she'd been spoken to.

...
.....

Yet somehow that may have been what she should have done to keep up a 'better than thou' appearance.. which part of her was still fervently believing in. Yes, she needed to be the 'best' possible if she wanted to show everybody back home what they'd just thrown out.

But of course, this led to the problem of actually needing to have someone to 'back her up'.. which of course led to many internal questions which gnawed on the corners of her mind. Nnngh.

Well..she..guessed she could try to 'play nice' a bit. Besides, if she played her cards, maybe she'd be able to feed one of her curiousities.

"Uh....Hi?"

... Great start.

If Ferris had noticed any sort of discomfort from Alanna, then she certainly didn't show it as she plopped herself right down next to her. ...At least she had enough tact to leave some space between them and not totally get all up in the girl's grill?

"Hello there," she repeated, glancing down at Hwinth for a second as the little green took up her own seat a foot away on the ground. "You look like something's on your mind ....?"

Okay, was this where she was supposed to back off and yell 'LEAVE ME ALONE'?? Because if so, she obviously hadn't memorized the script yet and instead seemed rather... baffled by the fact that there was someone who hadn't yet heard of how big her ego (and mouth, and all this fun stuff) was yet.. or had and just plopped themselves down to socialize anyways.

Uh, yes.

Alanna glanced at the girl's partner with a sort of curiousity... wow.. this was the closest she'd actually gotten to one of the smaller dragons, so seeing them up close (and on eye level.. sort of) was actually quite the sight!

"....Just..thinking.." she trailed off, looking away from Hwinth to look at Ferris with a slight frown.

..
....
She sure frowned a lot.

"Just how big of a bang the recent impression started off with...."

Both Ferris and Hwinth kept neutral expressions on their faces... or, for Hwinth, as neutral as a dragon could get. The little green wasn't really all too interested in whatever was going on, and she was getting a tad bit more hungry. She could tell right off that the other girl didn't seem to want to talk much, and she was slightly confused as to why Hers kept moving forward with conversation.

Ferrismine... she doesn't seem to want to talk much. It would be more tactful to excuse yourself?

The comment in her head made Ferris quirk a brow and purse her lips not in a sour expression, but one of simple confusion. Ish. "She's talking now, though. ...And it was quite a bang, you know, Hwinth. You're quite lucky you weren't out of your egg yet," Ferris replied to the green, nodding her head as she did so before looking at Alanna. "I was certainly miffed about the whole thing really -- felt the need to go find that little git who touched the eggs and give her a right good punch in the face for the mess she caused."

Mine... words.

"...Sorry, Hwinth..."

And really, the agreement from Ferris was alllll Alanna needed to open up the floodgate for some sort of socializing on the candidates part. Well HMMMMM. This was definitely her best shot at getting things rolling! Yes! She could... maybe do this. Uhh.

Yes.

"I mean, that gold just came out as angry as could be with it's brother and the healers just had to throw themselves in there almost immediately! I bet that stupid git was just sitting in the stands not even feeling guilty about everybody getting mauled -- it's obvious that she didn't care about anything to start with."

Grrraawwwrrr! Raaaggee, she had it!

However, it was after a moment of letting herself seethe on this that Alanna again glanced over to the dragonet in their company... really, she was much prettier up close now that she wasn't in awe from afar.

"We're fortunate that the rest of the dragonets didn't go on a rampage to find theirs."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 20, 2009 9:41 pm

Now things were goin'! Ferris immediately jumped in again on the topic of the stupid git. "Oh I have no doubt that that little ..." she drifted for a second, catching herself and remembering Hwinth's continuous warnings about her language.

The dragonet noticed this quite easily and gave Hers a blue-eyed look of approval, but otherwise kept silent.

"... BRAT was sittin' in the stands. She was probably oogling her eyes all over, trying to WILL some dragonet to her like she still had a chance. Please. And yeah... we're definitely fortunate that much of the rest of the Hatching went fairly smoothly and calm. Could you imagine if all the hatchlings were as angry as those two? Faranth, jeez..."

Ferris gave a huff and glanced with a scowl down at the ground. As she did so, Hwinth nudged her leg with her nose. The other one keeps glancing at me. You can tell her that I say 'Hello', Mine. And give my name, and yours. That's how the plan of Introduction works. Hwinth stated calmly, giving a tilt of her small, wedge-shaped head.

"Oh! Right... Uhm, this is Hwinth. She wanted me to tell you that she says hello. And I'm Ferris."

Woooaah.. the whole 'there is of a name attached that I KNOW SEKRITLY' was something that almost... well.. completely flew over Alanna's head. But it seemed that the message of such was being passed on -- perhaps so she'd stop gawking? "...Hello.....to you to?" she offered back awkwardly, unsure if she was OK with just saying it to the little green.

But either way it seemed an introduction was in order... first step: don't suddenly smirk and act like you're blessing this new....maybefriend with your name. That would definitely be a good start. Ahhhh ha ha ha.

"It's...nice..tomeetyou?" Again, there was an odd bit with the socialization -- open mouth, insert her trying to find the right word in it. Unfortunately, it made her sound a bit...mean? Oh, did it? Maybe.

"I'm Alanna." she added, before she sighed and leaned on the table, propping her head up with her hands and glancing over the room. Huuuh.. not as many people around as usual it seemed.

Perhaps the newly impressed off feeding theirs?

"..So is the whole..'thingy'.. with the mind-thing the way they describe it? I mean...I imagine there's some of that 'indescribable' thing going on, but yes.."

OH YES, ALANNA WAS FANTASTIC WITH HER WORDS TODAY.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:26 pm

Hwinth nodded to Alanna as she said Hello, the introduction sufficient for now with any other words being unnecessary on her own behalf. Ferris wasn't so closed in her speaking, though, and continued on unabashed or moved by however Alanna's words or body language sounded or looked.

"It's nice to meet you too, Alanna," she replied. She gave a nod of her own head and then glanced about the dining place as well. There really weren't a lot of people about... which only reminded her that Hwinth needed to be fed soon. However, Alanna had asked her a question and it would be rude to just up and leave and not answer. ...Yes... a great reason to further commence in chit-chat. Or whatever.

"Iiit..." Ferris drawled, blinking once or twice as her brows wrinkled for a moment. "Yeah, it's a bit indescribable. And really... really hard, to say in truth. I think I've only accomplished doing it once since the Hatching yesterday."

Ahhh! This was a conversation she hadn't screw up yet! GO HER!! (Actually, she was surprised by the lack of 'screwing it up' on her part at that). But no matter, she could handle this stuff... she hoped. Really hoped. Besides, this whole thing was actually quite interesting.

"So it's that hard, huh?" Alanna asked -- then again, she didn't know how many attempts had been MADE since said impression either. One in a day may have been a normal thing! Uuugggh.. she needed some older rider to ask about it too. She was getting insanely curious about it all.

But no matter, that was enough to tell her that she had to WAIT to find out the particulars... which she could do (she thought)... because it could have just been a little different for everybody. Ahhh! Now she wished she had impressed!

..... Good things came to those who would wait though... hopefully.

"Seems like something you just have to experience to know what it's like.."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 21, 2009 9:29 am

Ferris shifted in her seat at the bench and brought one leg up to sit on her foot -- an awkward sitting position, but it was oddly comfortable. She then propped up her head with her hand, her elbow on the table, but she wore no face of boredom and was still quite interested in the conversation.

"It's definitely something you just have to experience," she confirmed. "I asked 'bout it all the time, and thought I had a pretty good gist of it all, but... yeah. I sorely overestimated myself on that." She gave a laugh and glanced back down at Hwinth, who had lowered herself into a lounging position sometime earlier. The little green looked up and back at Hers, and once more gave a meaningful look. At this, Ferris moved again and scritched at the dragon's eye-ridges, much to the other's silent enjoyment.

"But I think the whole thing varies from person to person and their dragon and all that, because I've seen some of the newly Impressed people from yesterday talkin' with the whole mind-thing and they seemed to be having a pretty good conversation." She paused for a moment and finished up her petting, then continued on, "you can tell, sometimes, when someone's talkin' to their dragonet. One's usually always looking down and the other's usually always lookin' up."

Alanna's imagination couldn't even put a finger on the whole idea of it even... especially when it came to the image put into her head of the 'looking down looking up' thing.. because she could see it physically. However, all the 'mental talking' wasn't working out for her and instead the distracted pair walking into a wall.

Uhh..
....

She had a feeling it was a touch different than that. Just because she hadn't heard about any commonality of riders and their partners walking into things as stuff went along. Siiiiiigh.

No matter.

"Ahh... I guess some people are just a little more.... adept at it?" Alanna added, frowning again with a sort of.. 'jealousy' at the girl and her partner.. but it was to be expected that the candidates who hadn't impressed would be a little..
...
....

Envious. But it was fine... she guessed. For now, she'd just try to play 'friends' with some of the new riders to see how things happened. At least she'd now be able to see a little of what she was getting in to before she LEPT INTO IT.

Or something like it.

"Yeah. Basically that's it," Ferris said, shrugging. She wasn't sure what else to say on that subject, so she fell silent for a few seconds and looked down the table at whomever else was eating. The numbers seemed to be building. Hopefully that meant that there wouldn't be a huge glob of people feeding their dragonets when they got there? That'd be nice...

"Was yesterday your first Hatching?"

Hmm? AHH HA HA. Yeah, she'd definitely been caught by the observation skills of Ferris, now hadn't she? "It certainly was.... and it definitely made an impression on me.... I'm assuming that it won't be nearly as bad next time though."

Especially since there'd be... y'know.. a touching. Not that the whole thing hadn't been worth experiencing at least once. Would make her appreciate what she was going to be handling ..hopefully handling.. in the future. Better than anything else that could have happened -- and better than running into that a*****e Koios again.

"But at least the worst happened at the beginning and not the end of my run!"
